What causes a mini nova tank to leak?

I am still fairly new at this, only been a week. I originally purchased a plastic mini nova.

A few times I would pull it out of my bad attached to my twist and notice there will be some juice on the outside, not a bad leak, but enough I got juice on my hands, and afraid it might leak onto other things in my backpack. Luckily I keep it in a separate section of backpack.

I can't figure out what is causing it. How tight do I need to tighten the base? Maybe it not tight enough but don't want to overtighten.

I just purchased a metal mini nova, hoping maybe that is better, not sure will make a difference. Do I have a bad mini nova? Am i doing something wrong?

First, are you certain you have a Vision Mini Nova? Remember, "Vision" is the brand name (like "Chevrolet") and "Mini Nova" or "Vivi Nova" is the type of device (like "automobile"). Many kinds of knock-off Mini Novas and Vivi Novas are notorious for leaking: they're poorly engineered and manufactured devices meant to look like the real thing. But they sure don't work the same. And what I say next probably won't help you.

If you do have a genuine Vision Mini Nova, it's possible that you've mashed or lost the very thin, white plastic o-ring that seals the top and bottom. The fix is to get some plumber's teflon tape at your local big-box store (runs about $2.50 for a lifetime supply), then wrap the bottom and/or top threads with two turns (make sure you wrap clockwise). You'll have to do some surgery with a brand-new X-acto knife or razor to trim off the surplus teflon tape.

Sometimes, the silicon plastic cap at the top of the column that confines the wicks can get out of whack and thereby let e-liquid trickle down the inside of the column. And sometimes the drip-tip isn't seated completely, which also allows e-liquid to make its way to the column and thereby leak out the bottom of the Vision Mini.

Sadly, even genuine Vision Vivi Novas require some futzing to get them to work right.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info, not 100% sure I got it from myvaporstore and I emailed and they claim it is a genuine Vision, when I first purchased it because I heard there are fake ones out there.

I never even noticed that o-ring, I just looked at the metal one I just got and see it is on the top and bottom, have not filled it up yet waiting for some ejuice to come today.

Thanks for letting me know about that, this way I will make sure to be more careful especially when cleaning it.

The plastic one I am not sure if it is there since it filled up right now and afraid to loosen up the the bottom right now but will check next time I am out and have to refill.

I am thinking it is the last two options, because it appears mostly to leak where it meets the battery.

Thanks for all the info I will keep an eye on it!

I've been using Vision Vivi's for over a year and thanks to the forums finally figured out the cause of these leaks.

There is an o-ring INSIDE the drip tip that comes with the vivi's, I assume that's what is being referenced above. Make sure you push it down and it will seal up the connection between the drip tip and the column with the head. This is where the leaking happens. As soon as I saw that and tried it, my leaking completely stopped.

If I use 100%pg, once the tank is about half full or more, juice will leak right out of the battery connection. Other than that, the only leaking issues I get is caused by the base being slightly separated. Look at the air tube. Is it perfectly centered in the tank? If not, look at the base and check to see if there is a gap at the bottom. You'll notice the base is actually two pieces: the air tube/battery thread part, and the part that threads to the tank tube. If there's a gap, you can snap it back with some pliers, or even just press it firmly into a table and it'll seat back up. Also, if this happens and the air tube is crooked, the rubber part of the coil head won't line up correctly with the drip tip hole in the cap and juice will leak from the top as well.
