What causes clearomizers to have the "burnt taste"?

After a while using v2 blank cartos, and finding myself frustrated with being unable to keep them constantly filled in order to avoid burning them (and sometimes seemingly experiencing "burnt taste" even when they seemed adequately filled), I switched to the v2 liquimax blanks, then to the ex blanks, and now finally to Kanger e-smart clearos. Even with these clearomizers, and using them only when they're adequately filled, I'm finding that I sometimes experience the burnt taste.

What causes this in clearomizers? Is it that the wick gets burnt? If this is the case, wouldn't doing a "dry burn" after washing them out do exactly that-- burn the wick?

Thanks in advance, folks!

This happens because your juice is not wicking quickly enough to the coil. The burnt taste is just gunk being heated up. Like dba said, check your VG content, as it is thicker than PG. You could also try switching to carto tanks with a couple of punched holes.

Thanks for the replies! I'm really impressed with how quickly everybody responded... I should have joined earlier lol! Anyway, I'm using 50/50 PG/VG from vaperite. I switched to a higher VG% because I found PG to be a little harsh on the voice (I'm a singer, this is the primary reason I wanted to quit smoking in the first place). Good to know that I don't have to worry about the clearos getting ruined from burning the wicks, though...

as was said before with a clearo when you start to get the burnt taste the gunk has built up on the coil and it needs to be removed and cleaned, or you are not getting enough juice to the coil, with my Kanger pt heads I wash them in hot water then do a dry burn to burn off the remaining gunk some times need to do this a second time before I put them back in. After a time or two of this I just replace them and save them for rebuilding later.
With a cartomizer it's a different story when you get the burnt taste the filler material has started to burn and they need to be replaced, I've never been able to get the taste out of them, this is normally due to not getting enough juice into the filler material
