What determines a good "throat hit"?

Hi,

I'm somewhat confused on what it is that gives a good throat hit. From my limited experience, it doesn't seem to be just the volume of vapor. Direct dripping seems to work the best for me, even though the apparent volume of vapor seems to be the same if I'm using a cartridge or cartomizer. Am I simply getting more vapor by direct dripping, but am not aware of it?

Thanks!

Ken

The amount of PG you have in your ejuice. For me, I like mixing my own juices now and get a 73/27 pg/vg batch made up for a nicer throat hit. An all Vg juice won't give you throat hit, but gives you a better flavor. But adding some pg to ur vg will ensure throat hit. Try vaping anything with pg in it if you have a sore throat..OMG it is KILLER painful.

it all depends on what else is in the juice to. i had some 80/20 re4nu at 36mg that had no throat hit at all... had caffiene and ginseng in it which is the only thing i could think of that would have killed it like that. also depends on what your lungs can handle my mom tried using an e cig for a little bit and she would take a small hit of 50/50 and be choking, i vape 70/30 or 80/20 and take 10 second drags without any problems

While PG & voltage can contribute, nicotine is the largest contributor to throat hit by a long way. I've seen the same e-juice producting the same volume of vape, using the same battery and atty, go from zero TH to a major TH thru the addition of nicotine. I was vaping only 0-nic juices but missed the TH so bad that I went back to 8-10mg just to get some.

True but if I'm not mistaken that falls in with what WomanofHeart said about voltage.

Yeah with a VV or a higher volt there is no need for a LR you can get the same with the higher volt. With my Darwin and one duel 2.5 carto its like having all carto's and atty ohm's that i could want just dial it in.

I was perusing the model specific forum and saw a comparison between the ego and Riva which got me thinking since they mentioned that the Riva battery put out more voltage than the ego...

I've been using my new ego-t all morning. Decided to stick the ego-t tank and atty on my Riva battery and to my surprise I got a significantly stronger throat hit and vapor production.

I'm guessing it's a combination of voltage (both battery and atty resistance) as well as the juice itself. fwiw, all 12 of my juices are 24mg. Not sure about their pg/vg content though.

TH is also subjective and I beleive really two different parts which are different for different people. IMHO TH is divided into two categories which are very different. I see people comment about great TH but barely any vapor and I hear others talk about great vapor but no TH. The general idea of TH really should be divided into two categories: Throat hit; the scratchy warm back of the throat sensation which many like bc it reminds us of the analogs we used to smoke. The second half being "lung hit" or the feeling of inhaling smoke/vapor which feels like you are filling your lungs with something other than air. Both seem lumped together in conversation but to me are vastly different.

I don't like the burning/scratchy/iritating feel of "throat hit"; but rather crave the fullness and smooth feel of good dense vapor filling my lungs...."lung hit". Straight PG high nic juices that have minimal vapor but are bragged about for TH are just plain iritating. So to me there are two types of "TH".
