Yes they work, or at least help a large majority of people who use them. I was a heavy 25 year smoker and I have not had a cigarette in over 3 months. Previously, I have only have made it for about 24 hours without a cigarette and that was using the patch and going a bit “insane”. It took me 11 days with using the ecig to finally quit smoking.

As for what to get, I would do a bit of research before deciding what is “right” for you. With that said, many people start with a 510 or a KR808d-1. Most, if not all, of the vendors listed in this forum are reputable. Once you decide on your ecig do a little research on the companies that sell that particular ecig (they all have their own sub-forum on this site).

You will get tons of advice, but in the end research the different products and try to determine what is best for you.

Just enter this optimistically and take one step at a time; at the very worst your cigarette consumption will be dramatically reduced.

Good luck and welcome.

Yes it works. :D I've not had 1 cigarette since I got my first 901 almost a year ago. Soon got myself a ScrewDriver and never looked back. As your in the UK I will recommend some sites i've had great service from.
ecigscrewdriver.com
Electronic Cigarette e-liquid / Totally Wicked e-Liquid / electronic cigarette eliquid nicotine fluid products
E-Cigs.co.uk, Online Store
E-Liquid
SmokeJuice - HOME

Just do some research on what you want before rushing into buying. A lot of people want something that looks like a cig, that usually soon wears off and they look for something more reliable.
A good start is to find something which uses a 901 or 510 atomizer. They are easy to use and manuals give you more control than auto batts.
Buy some juice to top up your carts rather than using prefilled carts, saves loads of money and theres loads of diff flavours to try. :D
Read as much as you can by experienced users, guides, videos etc. You'l soon see something you want.
Good luck

Thanks mate, im a bit confused about what to get. ive read quite a bit today on the site and i didnt know there was so much to it! do you stop dead when you get the e cig or reduce your in take of normal cigs? do you get the most powerful? what price would i reasonably be expecting to pay? seems some have been ripped off a bit. Its not that well advertised in the UK i only found out by accident il try this 510, is that what i would order?

It depends on so many things. ;) It's really up to you, and how you take to vaping yourself. I don't recommend forcing yourself to stop dead, as you put it. You may want to, and find it's easy (lots do) and if that's the case, go for it. But I recommend just having the point of view that you're learning about vaping, and have fun with it, and replace your smoking habits with vaping habits. I started w/out even the intention to quit and knew pretty much right away that I'd be quitting smoking, once I got my kit.

Knowing what I know now, it would have saved me a lot of grief if I had started with a device with longer battery life (and a manual battery) like the Janty eGo, or the TW Tornado. I found that a lot of my earlier frustration was due to my batteries dying at unexpected times, not lasting long at all, or the automatic batteries being set off by wind or music, then when I went to use them they were dead. The electronic cigarettes not being reliable drove me back to analogs on more than one occasion.
I currently have the Janty eGo, and I couldn't be happier with it. I've had it since the end of January and have not had one urge for an analog. The eGo just always works, period.

Thanks for advice everyone il get started ordering today. Just a ast question do you stop straight away or cut down first or whats the best way?
Do what feels right to YOU. Smoke if you feel like one, don't smoke when/if you don't. Eventually, if it's working right, you should want less n less until you MAY not want any more. A key thing is getting decent juice to use, some dodgy ones out there that taste like dog .... lol Others taste really really nice. Be open to getting non tobacco flavors too.
I believe Totally Wicked do some halfway decent juices but the UK forum can guide you better.
Don't worry if you still want one or 2 - some of us it takes time to quit - took me a week or 10 days. I didn't worry about it, wasn't even planning to quit, but ended up just not wanting one eventually.

No prob. ;)

If you start vaping almost as a hobby and are excited about it (vs. being stressed/omg-I-gotta-quit-smoking-yesterday) it's a lot more fun. And it really, really is wayyyy better than smoking. But if you're still attached to smoking in the beginning and have one when you're dying for one, that's fine.

Vaping's an alternative. It's not medicine, it's not some drab thing from the doc, it's fun. And pretty soon smoking will seem kinda lame in comparison.

Okay, really lame, lol. ;)

Without trying my cigarette intake was reduce from about 3 packs a day to 2-3 cigarettes a day over the first 11 days with my ecig. At this point (2-3 cigs / day, I made a conscious effort to quit. Was it easy? Yes it was relatively easy; however, I still get cravings for a cigarette on occasion (mild cravings—no big deal).

As for your spending; I originally spent a lot of money. Started with the KR808d-1 and I loved it. Then I wanted something more “powerful” (higher voltage) and greater battery life. I tried a few different mods and ended up liking the SB from Altsmoke the best.

With that said, I spent a lot of money on stuff I do not use anymore, but now I am saving tons of money. I calculate my spending on ecigs and supplies (juice, cartomizers, and batteries) to be between (20-30%) of what I spent on cigarettes and this includes all the stuff I do not use anymore.

But most important I can breathe much better, my smell and taste have greatly improved, I can workout harder, blood pressure dropped slightly, and my blood circulation has dramatically improved.

You can probably start out spending about $40-60 US dollars for a kit with some juice. It is important to find the strength and flavor of juice that is right for you.

First, even after you get your PV, there is a learning curve. It takes different amounts of time for different people.

Next, you can have a perfect PV and still not be able to quit analogs due to the e-liquid not working for you.

Example-me: Got a 510 and the prefilled carts were nasty tasting to me. It worked fine. But it took me weeks of ordering e-liquid from here and there to find flavors I could enjoy and a nicotine strength that made the cravings go away. It took me weeks to quit smoking, but I was able to cut down on analogs instantly. I use different strengths at different times of the day and that works for me.

My oldest son took to it like a duck to water as soon as I handed him one.

Both of us are off analogs, so the end result is the same even if our paths were different.

My advice is to read The Wonderful World of Vaping. Order a PV & some sample sizes of e-liquid. When it arrives try it out. Find out what works for you. I'm happy with my 510, but I did make my own battery mod after awhile and started mixing most of my own liquid. It's a new journey and I'm still exploring.

Good advice; everyone is different and there is a learning curve. It takes research and experimenting to figure out what best fits your needs.

Yes go read “The Wonderful World of Vaping”—sorry I do not have the link.
