About 2-3 times a year i go a deep polish, i will do 1 application of emery to get rid of any scratches and dings, followed by 2-3 applications of white or jewelers rouge to make it shine, applied with my dremel and a 1/2" felt wheel. I finish it off and maintain between deep polishing using Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish and a microfiber rag.

I have some very light surface level scuffs on the polished SS top cap on my aqua (imgur: the simple image sharer scuff is to the left of the hole in the ring) from my girlfriend dropping my mod on the sidewalk... Luckily it landed on the drip tip, but the lock ring & atty top cap took a scuff..

What's the best method for getting them out of SS? Can I just go right to polishing? Also my dremel is buried behind a wall of .... in my storage unit, so if there's a way to do it by hand that will take less than the ~3-5 hours it will take to get to my dremel that would also be amazing.

For a mirror finish SS go to the hardware store and buy a tube of white buffing compound for stainless steel. This is the finest grade for SS. Use it with a flannel buffing wheel. The wheel type that fits a power drill works just fine. Don't use much of the buffing compound which is applied to the wheel. Disassemble to avoid using buffing compound on the brushed SS, or mask it with tape.

You might be able to get the scuff out just using the Nevr-Dull and some effort. It's worth trying first.

Just my .02 on hand polishing.

I redo old road bikes and come across quite a few metal bits that need polishing. SS isnt something I see very often but have come across it. I use sand paper and work my way towards 2000 grit finishing paper. If I want it to be a mirror finish I will then use either brasso, white lightening, or neverdull. To get the brushed look I simply stop at 1500 or 2000 depending on the application. Of course the proper way to do it involves water and a drop or 2 of dish soap but this isnt a concern as freshwater doesn't create rust nearly as fast as saltwater does. The electrical bits will be fine as long as you don't pop a batter in and try to use it before it dries out.

well my mod had a thich brushed finninsh, the magneto.... so i went right to the dremal tool with a 220 grit pink rubber poishing wheel to sand off the brush marks, then on to 600 grit sand paper to get it smooth, and 1200 to get the shine, i spun the parts seperatly in a drill will holding the sandpaper to it till it shined. next back to the dremal and a 1 in polishing wheel and red compound for steel spinning pretty fast, this gave it a nice polshed look, enough so i can see myself in it, then with a computer screen cleaning cloth i wiped it by hand till the acsess polish was off of it.

now my magneto is slipery as all heck and its a fingerprint magnet lol but i love the new look !!!

ps............ stainless steel is tough to polish espesialy if its a brushed mech .....the brushed look on a cheaper mech is basicaly unfinninshed tool marks lol
