Here's some shots of BMF cartos that were used for about a week on V4L batteries. I used to smoke ~3 packs/week, although I probably vape a bit more, so these didn't see that heavy of usage. They were syringe filled and never allowed to burn dry. I was jonesing for my bloogs so I dug them out of the trash because my wife threw them out.

Here are the burnt wicks after soaking in vinegar for about an hour. I've already used a needle to knock most of the char off the coil. Salvageable.

Every silicon cap was melted to the plastic seating ring. See the scorch marks from the heating element leads? Here's a few of the semi-melted seating rings. These cartos started tasting bad and irritated the lungs.

This one makes me ANGRY beyond words. The carto seemed just a little off, but comparatively, the best of the bunch. I suppose the menthol hid the fact that I VAPORIZED MOST OF THE PLASTIC RING INTO MY LUNGS!!! I was already worried about fumes from scorched polyfill, so vaping a whole chunk of plastic just flips me out. The carcinogens in plastic build up in your body.

This has completely changed my mind regarding FDA intervention, and trust me, that's saying a lot. I was already a bit spooked about juice additives but willing to accept it's better than smoke. I didn't think about the safety of the delivery device. :(

Those are BMF cartos the parts look exactly like what I took apart a few weeks back. But the one I took apart had none of the burning I see on these. Pretty wild I must say. Id recommend not reusing those wicks.

How much worse did those wicks look before you cleaned them?

Also any idea what batch these are from?

This should be an interesting one for Leaford.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you actually go about taking a carto apart? I have pulled the filler and wick out with tweezers, but I don't know how to take the carto apart to get to the plastic parts pictured above. I didn't even know there were any internal plastic parts.

Grab some pliers if you have any available and grab the metal pin on the flip side (the part that screws into the battery) and pull it out. That should make everything else come with it.

Personally, I agree with star, those O-rings in the middle on the left dont look like bloog stuff...*sniff sniff* do I smell halibut?

2nd, every one of your posts are negative except for v4l stuff...I'm not saying this guy possibly could be right..but I take this post with a grain of sand..and fishing them out of the trash? what kind of control is that for refilling and saying they are "salvagable"? plus you are smoking these things USING OTHER SUPPLIERS EQUIPMENT! If I put diesel in my car...im sure it would be very unhappy with me...

as for the fda comment..thats dumb...cigarettes kill hundreds of thousands of people a year, right out of the pack AND NOT FISHED OUT OF THE TRASH!

people these days

The wicks themselves didn't look too much worse, but they definitely have lightened up. However, the coils on all of them are very sooty, some with a bit of char. These are from the second batch and registered 2.5-2.6.

I love(d) these things from first drag, so my original plan was to find to enough "good parts" out of 10 cartos to make ONE working one. After looking at the wicks with a 30X jeweler's loupe, the fibers are melted so salvaging anything is a terrible idea.

Opening them is easy. Take a small flathead or tweezers and pull out the metal tip on the battery side. It's sitting in a silicon sleeve which is the thing with white stuck to it in the pics. Presumably the sleeve should now just pull right out, but if it's like mine, you will have to use tweezers to forcibly remove it since it will be melted to the white plastic ring inside. Then from mouth side, use tweezers to pull on the tube. Again, presumably the tube and wrapping should come out easily, but I had to repeatedly work it around in a circle because the melted plastic ring cemented it in.

Hrm interesting. I held the wick to an open flame for 1 min just cause me and my curious nature tend to do things like that. I can't say I saw any melting or burning. It glowed but that was about it.

I think we should all calm down for a sec =)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say those are definitely BMF carto innards. The wicks in the first pick look exactly like what I pulled out of one. The first pick in the second row is the o-ring sealer that goes around the metal pin I mentioned at the bottom of the carto. The rest of the pics are not of the greatest quality but look like the protective casing that makes these things what they are. That white ring is whats normally at the bottom and then the stuffing around it. You can see the layers a little better in the last picture.

I'm not coming to any conclusion about anything but we all know some people have experienced some issues with some of these cartos, and the problem is still being investigated.

Any chance you can provide some better pictures of the filler and protective sleeve? Ones not so zoomed in.

sorry, didn't realize those on the left were from the battery end of the carto, thought it was the vaping end cap since it said "silicon cap". And that tube down the center I thought was a wick instead of plastic. I do know that BMF cartos on a freshly charged v4l battery gets that burned taste immediately because the battery is too 'hot' for it, so that's probably what happened. I stopped, you didn't. Never have that issue when using it with a Bloog battery.

Perhaps you never have that issue using a MaxxFusion battery. However, and this might just be because of a bad batch of cartos, I experienced a burning taste using them on my Bloog Trifecta. And no, I didn't use them on my V4L battery.

Rift and cryx, thank you for the instructions on how to take the carto apart. I wanted to know how so I could see what mine look like inside before making any judgments or comments.

Rift, thank you for the calming post. You have already taken a carto apart....so you knew.

Oh, and I do have pliers, just not a hacksaw, which thanks to Rift and cryx, I now know I don't need.:)

Try opening one.

Let's see, I'm new to ecigs, so I have no background except V4L & bloog! Thanks for trying to discredit me because I'm new and having legitimate issues.

I researched and found Leaford to be highly respected. Thus I wanted to buy bloog, but they were out of stock on black batteries and blanks. I went with V4L, since Leaford used to work there, and I bought a bunch of sampler packs. After I got the bloog blanks, I bought the V4L juices I liked from the samplers. The sum total of my posts is fluffy-fluffy I like this juice and that juice, and here's how I fill, etc. Then there's posts about these blanks, mostly suggestions on how to improve them after my first autopsy.

plus you are smoking these things USING OTHER SUPPLIERS EQUIPMENT! If I put diesel in my car...im sure it would be very unhappy with me...

It's more like ruining your car because you used 89 octane instead of 87 octane. If the bloog cartos only work with bloog batteries, then they need to stop using KR808 fittings.

as for the fda comment..thats dumb...cigarettes kill hundreds of thousands of people a year, right out of the pack

No, it's not dumb. Go educate yourself on the hazards of inhaling melting/burning plastic fumes. It's very toxic and carcinogenic too. If we all vaped plastic, we'd start dropping like flies. I feel like a guinea pig right now. If I didn't dismantle my cartos, I wouldn't have even known there was plastic in there. Obviously you didn't know there's plastic in there. Why should we have to worry about toxic materials ourselves?

I definitely don't want ecigs banned, I just need to know they are "relatively" safe. What I just used is NOT relatively safe. At a minimum, bloog needs to put a clear warning on their site that you have to use their batteries, or they need to use custom fittings.
