Another thread got me wondering about the reason why we all made the switch to e-cigs/vaping. I feel as though I know the majority of the regular users on this forum, through your posts etc and have realised that I have not seen much in the way of why we all made the transition.

I will keep my story short. For a few years I had seen advertisements online for "Sky Cig". At first I didn't really understand what It was but as time passed I realised it was a new, innovative alternative to traditional cigarettes which was safe(r).

Needless to say, it sparked my interests in the sense of: loving new technology, the monetary savings and of course, the health benefits. I decided to order a cigalike kit at first as the ego style batteries/cartos/clearos was just all too confusing to me at that stage in my transition.

The cigalike was fine for a month or so until I decided to buy a twist and a few carto tanks, Shortly after I found ECF and decided to create an account and get involved after a further month of reading up on what was out there.

Hope I didn't bore you guys too much.

bronchitis. i was sick and smoking cigs just felt so disgusting to me. i was at work one day and said screw this, crumbled up my pack of cigs and tossed them in the trash. went into a bodega and bought a blu disposable. it was pretty bad but i realized these things had potential. i used NJOY kings for a few weeks which were great in that transitional period. they felt and tasted like real cigs. eventually i found this place and ordered some v4l dial a volts and a vapor zeus. then got a vamo and a bunch of clearos. i'm somewhat of a tech geek so its all pretty interesting to me to see an industry like this in it's infancy. i think 10 years from now well look back on the gear we use now and laugh.

My sons bought me a kit for Father's Day in 2011. I wasn't interested at all, but I couldn't tell them that of course, so I started using it. I figured I'd try it out for a few days and tell them it just wasn't cutting it and that would be the end of it. About a month later I smoked my last cigarette.

I just wanted another thing to "smoke".

I'm a powerlifter and I couldn't breathe one night at a competition and collapsed after my third lift. Tried quitting analogs cold turkey and I started bugging out and started smoking again. Then I had a brief moment where I just gave up on all training all together and started smoking pretty much every "method" I can (well, tobacco-based atleast).

A local shop had a "smartsmoke" RN4081 kit. I bought it, and I stopped craving analogs without even trying. Then I just didn't stop from there on.

I'll still have an occasional cigar, shisha, or snus here and there, but I never intended on quitting smoking by picking up vaping.

After about 35 years of smoking obviously I enjoyed, and addicted as well. But I also came to realize I liked breathing too, and with the cigs it was becoming harder and harder to do so. Then I also realized I wanted to breathe for as long as possible. I never thought E-cigs would be an alternative one day I bought a gas station wanna be vaping device, and it wasn't too bad, right there and then I decided that this was what I was gonna do to get My nicotine. Started researching on the web and was overwhelmed by what was out there. At that point I knew I could make this work. Then I stumbled upon ECF, and it was here where I was able to start sorting it all out and figure how I wanted to go about it.

When I first started and even after learning of the existence all the devices, gadgets and flavors out there I was thinking of just keeping it with cig-a-ikes or the smaller batteries and I would be happy, and I most likely could have stayed off the stinkies with them. Well now I am rebuilding coils, making My on juice and always looking for new things to fiddle with.

I bought my dad numerous kits, he gives them one puff, coughs, then lights up a Dunhill.

I know how that is. My dad was the same however I found out that he never coughed with any extreme menthols. After a month of using only menthol juice he could vape "regular" flavours without coughing.

Must have something to do with the cooling effect of menthol juices.

I have a group of high school buddies, we all graduated high school in '90, but we still all get together for poker nights on Saturday night. I had quit smoking tobacco 10+ years earlier, when these guys started bringing PVs to our poker nights. For the first few weeks I abstained. Then I started toking on one of theirs a little here and there, it wasn't too bad. Then, when poker night rolled around, I would just confiscate one of their PVs for the night and just puff away. Finally, I just figured, well, I have to have one for myself. Even though I had quit smoking tobacco for 10+, I still liked to smoke "stuff", but when there was no "stuff" around, I was just miserable the whole time since I had restricted myself from tobacco. Now, I can just puff to my heart's content. Happy.

I had been smoking far too much for far too many years. I was tired of feeling like an outcast, yellow teeth, burn holes in clothes and furniture, tar stains on the walls of the house, coughing and perpetual sinusitis, the constantly increasing costs....in short, I was getting sick of the hassles associated with smoking, but still loved to smoke. Go figure.

Heard a little about "e-cigarettes" a couple of years ago, but assumed they were expensive and were something hard to find and catered mostly to the Hollywood celebs and the rich and privileged crowd. Two years ago I was wandering around Facebook and saw an ad for Greensmoke. While I declined their offer...it did spark my interest. I started Googling and learned a little more about these newfangled "e-cigs". Finally decided on a kit to buy...and ordered it. The day it arrived in late Sept. of 2011 is the day I quit smoking.

My evolution with vaping follows the path of many here on ECF. At first it seemed like I was forever spending, spending, spending. I was lured and enchanted with this gizmo or that device, or some newest thing mod. Gradually I figured out what devices worked best for me, and a year ago I learned DIY and developed my own all day vape juice (which I still vape..although I've reduced the nic content hugely and also the percentage of flavor concentrate, over time). Now my vaping budget is relatively manageable....and far less expensive or destructive than smoking. It's all good. I get the satisfaction I got from smoking...with none of the negative stuff.

About 2 years ago a friend lent me his cig-a-like kit for me to use while he and his daughter were in town visiting. The daughter (3) is/was very asthmatic and sensitive to cig smoke. He used the ecig to quite after finding out his daughters condition. So I used to for a couple of weeks. Still smoked when I wasn't around her. When he left he left it with me. I got frustrated with it dieing on my and filling carts. It lasted about a month.
6 months ago I started trick driving with my husband (ex smoker). Not only did the smell really bother him but cig prices vary greatly across the US. I remembered my cigalike experience from a few years back and thought things have got to have gotten better and started with a YouTube search" best e cig". Its all been up hill from there.

That's why they put menthol in stinkies to begin with, to cover the burn from the tobacco. That and it's supposed to smell better

My fiance asked me to try it for her. She was looking into it for weeks before she asked me. She was never a smoker, but she hated that I was and wanted to to try something that wouldn't make me stink. So she bought me an ego started kit (a really cheap one) and a bottle of Tobacco juice. I haven't looked back. :D
