I've had a RIva 510 650mah battery for about 1 year now. It was working fine until something very strange and kind of scary happened today!
I took a hit and sat the RIva down on the desk as usual. no slamming it or dropping it or depressing the button, etc. I just sat it down. When I went to pick it up again, I noticed that the light hadn't come on when I pressed the battery so I thought it had died. I sat it back down and went to get the charger, was about 40 seconds before I got back. When I picked the RIva up again, it was extremely hot and I heard my juice sizzling - it had been on since I last sat it down, a good 50-60 seconds, and there was no indication and it hadn't shut itself off. I had a Vision ego / stardust on it that I quickly unscrewed, and kept the battery away from me - ran it outside incase it kept heating up. Adter disconnecting the vision, it seemed to turn ff.
if I screw the vision back on - or anything at all, a plain carto etc - it immediately starts this again, and the light has stopped working completely.
Obviously it is no longer safe and I've sat it back outside, but what on earth happened ?? it seems like it could of very well blew up in my face ! I have never modded or attempted to mod, I'm not rough with it, haven't dropped it recently etc. I'm baffled.

Sounds like it's shorted. If ya got a year outta it I'd say ya got yur money's worth. Just switch it out with another. If all your batts are about the same age I'd order up another 3-6 of um. Sometimes same vintage batts die close to one another. Other times some seem to run on forever. JMHO

yep shorted out switch. Same thing happened to one of my egos a while back. It happens! Egos are, in the long run, a disposable battery. They can only be recharged so many times before they can't really hold a good charge anymore. So always have a fresh back up! I've got my lavatube, a 1100 mah ego and a VV box mod lol.

Egos are, in the long run, a disposable battery.

ALL batteries are disposable, in essence.

On New Year's I change out the alkalines in my wall clocks, put new batteries into my Smoke Alarms, and have the fire department check my fire extinguisher, etc. I also replace the batteries in my 18-volt Drill since after a year they don't charge that well anymore.

Vapers should use New Years to retire their batteries and/or purchase new ones. After a year, on and off chargers every other day, there aren't any batteries I own that I would want to keep after that. IMHO, it's only a matter of time before you get a surprise. At under $30 for an Ego Twist, we can certainly say we already "got our money's worth".

I had 4 Riva 650's. I lost 1 in Antigua, the other 3 died in about 3 months or so of use. I think getting a year out of one was real good! It sure doesn't owe you anything. BTW, 2 out of the 3 of mine died the same way. The other refused to charge when the battery died. I've moved past the eGo style batteries.
