What happened to my juice???

Greetings

I have been experimenting making my own e-juices. I have tried to follow recipes and can't understand why the majority taste
absolutely horrible. At least the ones I can taste. I think I have long term vape tongue fever. Sometimes I get I brief glimpse of a
flavor but the majority of the time the flavor is awful. I'm just trying to vape something I can tolerate, although nothing seems to
have any flavor.

When I did taste some flavor they were no where close to what the recipe said they should taste like. I did the Stevo's vanilla custard
and it doesn't taste like anything. The only one that came out good was the modified Grants vanilla custard with a pinch of eggnog
added in.

Am I missing something? I shake them, I steep them, I let them breathe. I've tried heating them in hot water and cooling, I hid them
in dark places, I shake them again and again and nothing. Either I have destroyed my taste buds, which I don't think I have because
i still taste different foods, or I am missing something really big.

I would be grateful for any advice. I would be willing to gargle with gasoline if that would restore the flavor to my beloved vape. Thanks
for any hot tips or tricks...

I had vapors tongue and a cold at the same time and I didn't taste anything not even most foods :( did get rid of some of the bad juices I had that the time.

But what I did, since your a DIY'er is vape unflavored, just Nic and PG/VG for a week or so it finally helped me and now I have come to like very minor flavor instead of the super flavored juices those are just to much for me now.

taste is 80% smell. smelling or drinking coffee helps cleanse the palette. does vendor liquids taste ok? try to make some simply fruit and crème liquids. get a couple different strawberries some marshmallow and sweet crème and sweetner. use an ejuice calculator. mix 5% each strawberry 5% marshmallow 5% sweet crème and 1% sweetner. get the flavors from wizard labs. shake well often for 3 days and store in a cabinet. should be good to go. good luck

I make fruit flavors and they vape well within 2 hours of making. I mix them shake them well and then put the bottle in a cup of hot tap water. When it cools shake again and vape. They do get better for a few weeks, if they last that long but are vapable immediately. I think the more complex blends of flavors need more mixing.ageing time than simple fruit flavors.

You didn't say how long you've quit smoking, or how long you've been vaping. Vaper's Tongue can last months for some individuals.

Try some stronger flavors such as cinnamon or mint (or menthol).

DIY flavors requires some patience and experimentation. Make sure your added flavoring agents are high quality, and your Pg/Vg base e-liquid are high quality. Steeping may be required.

I just recently bought stuff for DYI from Wizard labs and have made an awesome ry4 (Classic) a Banana tobacco and a honey tobacco with great results. Mind you they will need some tweeking to get them up to premium juice standards but a good start just the same. Hang in there and go slow, write everything down and brush you toofusses to get the vapors tongue under control.

What equipment are you vaping on? Can you compare your DIY juice to other juice vendors?

(What I'm getting at is, does your battery and head give you good flavors with pre-mixed juices, but not with your DIY?)

Also, are you sure you have your measurements correct? When you mix, it should be probably between 10-25% flavoring, and the rest PG/VG/Nic. Does that seem right for what you're making?
Which flavor vendor are you using?

Please don't gargle gasoline! Habanero Hot Sauce would be my recommendation, as long as you follow it up with a snort of wasabi powder. (Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and anyone who follows my advice is probably an idiot. Nothing personal.)

To add to the measurements thing:

Make sure you know how many drops it takes to equal a ml of liquid for whatever hardware you're using. Dont go by that 20 drops=1ml formula. My DIY tasted horrible when I first started. I was using the 20 drops formula, but it turned out my pipettes were 40 dtops/ml.

My DIY has exploded since then!

Just another tip.

Make sure if you're using an app to change that formula. Its usually in the options menu somewhere.

As someone who has spent the last week or so reading literally hundreds of pages of posts on DIY juicing I highly recommend that you spend some time reading the various threads on making a great juice.

How are you measuring? Drops, mls, pippetes, syringes?

I'm measuring with a 1, 3 and a 20ml syringes. I have been trying to keep the flavorings at 15%. Should I go higher? I like the vanilla custard blends and fruits the best. Using the ejuice calculator with nicotine at 6%. Should I go higher on flavorings?

I mix tfa vanilla custard at about 15% and then add another 5% french vanilla. Is pretty good but does have to steep a good while. I find that mixture good to use as a mixer to other flavors like fruits or tobaccos or any other bakery type desserts like caramel, butterscotch etc.

I should have said use the vanilla as the base and add things like fruits, etc to it.

what flavoring company is making your flavorings?
