I have encountered a number of ejuices that have a very specific flavoring that is hard to describe, but I recognize it instantly.

It is something that adds a bit of sweetness, maybe a little tartness, and I can tell when it is in a juice because my mouth instantly waters as soon as I taste it. I've found it mostly in dessert and fruit flavors, but now I detect it in some tobacco flavors, including very high-end quality juices such as Vermillion, and Clouds of Vapor organic.

I do not get it at all in tobacco juices by BWB, AVE, Vaperite, Vapor Station.

Does anyone know what this flavoring is? I need to avoid it, as I instantly have a bad reaction to it (stomach pain). I would like to have fun ordering samples of new flavors, but it's very frustrating when I get a batch of flavors in, take a puff, and realize that I can't use any of them. If I know what it is, at least i can possibly write a note and ask vendors if their juices contain this ingredient before I end up with a batch of juice I can't use.

p.s. I know it's not an issue with PG, as many of the juices I enjoy regularly without issue have lots of PG.

While I don't get physically ill, I really dislike the taste of whatever "it" is, and would like to avoid it. Is it possibly tobacco absolute?

It could be any one of the above mentioned. I can add one more vendor to the "does NOT have this ingredient list", and that's Highbrow Vapor's tobacco line. Very, very good stuff, btw.

It would be great if more vendors listed all of their ingredients. The problem is, when they do, they just list "flavorings" - I'm sure whatever it is that has this effect is somewhere in those flavorings!

I bet some of the DIY folks would recognize what it is...

After some research, between sucralose and ethyl maltol, sucralose seems more likely to cause the symptoms I had: 11 Sucralose Side Effects | 3FC

But, I don't want to cause any unnecessary concern for people who make or use juices with either ingredient. I'll try writing to some vendors and see if they use either or both of these - and check with vendors whose flavors don't cause any issues for me as well...

I wrote to one of the vendors whose flavors do not bother me, and asked them if any of the flavors I buy from them contain sucralose or ethyl maltol. Let's see what they say...if they do use them, then we can rule these out...

One possible culprit could also be malic acid, which is a tartness additive. One of the key effects of this flavoring is thta it has an instant mouthwatering effect. Taste-wise, it's lovely...Important to note, I actually enjoyed all of the juices that contained this additive, it's just the residual physical effect I'd like to avoid.
