what is a 'bump'?

Logged on today, and hooray I'm verified! Hopped over to classifieds, looking for some more stuff to add to my collection. I was reading the rules about bumps- I don't understand. What does it do? Is it like so there is activity in the thread so it doesn't get closed?

A "bump" is a way to bump a most back up to the top of the most recently viewed classifieds list.

Actually, not in my case! I do not bump my own classies unless I change the price and/or items. Would like to see a 24 hour 'bump free' rule.

Ya might check out other sites that enforce the 24 hour rule and observe the lack of 'clutter'. Since we've had established threads butchered and split into site 'digestible' sizes, why not sumpin' easy to reduce traffic? Yes, there are clever ways to circumnavigate the rule, but most wouldn't bother.

I actually got an infraction for bumping my ad 1 hour short of 24 hours. But, that was a while ago and it peeves me because I see certain people bump their ads morning and night. So, I guess they enforce it when they want too.
