Ok, so I have a bunch of equipment now and I'm seeing something I'm a little surprised by. So I'm going to ask the question plus some additional ones.

Two of my vapes are a Joye510 and an M401. I'm getting more vapor and a stronger throat hit out of the M401. So what is more likely,

1) I have an exceptional M401
2) I have an issue with my Joye510

Here are my followup questions...

  • Is there something to check or be sure of?
  • What is the best way to clean/refurb the attys?
  • Is heard of the Pepsi method. Does it have to be Pepsi? Does Coke work? What about a nice Mountain Dew? Any special kind of Pepsi? Is there a better way?
  • How do I know when it's time to throw an atty out?
  • If I look down into the atty and I see red when it's activated, does that mean it's still good?
  • About the cartridge wicking material. Can it be rinsed out and reused indefinitely?
  • Should it go all the way down to the base of the cart?
  • I noticed my atty is pushing the entire wad of wicking material down into the cart and there is a small indentation where the bridge touches it. Is that right?
Thanks in advance for the help I'm about to receive.

  • Is there something to check or be sure of? If the 510 is new, it may need time to be broken in. Not always the case though, just what I've heard. Every model, seems to perform differently, espeacially if your accustomed to one in particular and make a transition to another. You may need a lengthier drag on your 510, you may need to prime the manual button(let the atty cook a moment before drag) or your atty may just be another victim to variable quality common of all ecigs.
  • What is the best way to clean/refurb the attys? This is based on preference. I don't solvent clean mine at all. I vape from 4 different model attys for the past 4 months and they all vape great. Since I do use a mod, I've eliminated my automatic cleaning. So, every now and again, I engage my on switch and cook the atty with a momentary hold of 15 to 20 seconds at 4 volts to cook off any crusties built up on the heating element.
  • Is heard of the Pepsi method. Does it have to be Pepsi? Does Coke work? What about a nice Mountain Dew? Any special kind of Pepsi? Is there a better way?Matter of preference. I believe Pepsi is used because it's supposedly less acidic. Pepsi method came from the Coke method. Coke method has been used for quite sometime by many across the world to remove mild corrosion and rust.
  • How do I know when it's time to throw an atty out? When it's not working.
  • If I look down into the atty and I see red when it's activated, does that mean it's still good?Yes, and don't do that unless your willing to understand the risks in doing this and pre-cooking. Although I do this to possibly heat off any built up gunk. You really pose a risk to the atty, by dry heating it. You can easily heat the coil up too hot, and cause it to melt the solder joints or get so hot that the coil breaks in two. The coil is very thin and rated to stand so much resistance in one time before succumbing to wear. While taking a drag, the coil is being cooled by a backwards draft your creating and the pulling of liquid at the same time.
  • About the cartridge wicking material. Can it be rinsed out and reused indefinitely? It can be washed out and reused, but not indefinitely. I've tested this and eventually, the fiber becomes stained and taints the taste of the eliquid, even after washing the batting. But, you can achieve a while by washing and reusing the batting.
  • Should it go all the way down to the base of the cart? Yes??? Not sure if your referring to the inner cart or the atty. Atty would be a no, it should stop a little short of the inside of the inner cart. The metal bridge of the atty should make a slight indention in the batting, but not compress it fully.
  • I noticed my atty is pushing the entire wad of wicking material down into the cart and there is a small indentation where the bridge touches it. Is that right? Yes, that metal bridge in your atty is actually the wick. The batting is nothing more than the sponge. You want this. I'm not sure if your exaggerating or if the batting is being pressed all the way down into the bottom of the inner cart. But if this is happening, the inner cart should be at the bottom of your cart before inserting atty. There are tutorials in the new members sub category if you need to see how this is done. As of now, any compression remaining in your batting should be re-fluffed like a pillow. If the batting is too compressed, the amount of liquid retained/released is reduced, although M401-02's don't hold much liquid to begin with.
Hope any of my personal experience helps!
