Hi! I have a question and I hope some of you can clear this up for me! I know you fill your cartomizer before you put it on your pv. (I will be trying the condom method.) After you put it on your pv and start vaping are you supposed to add a few drops to the cartomizer after about every 10 inhales or can you just vape on it until the flavor lessens(is that how you can tell it needs a refill?) and then refill the whole cartomizer? Thank you in advance! :)

Don't vape too long without topping off the carto or you will burn it. You'll get a feel for when you need to top off, (too warm, dry or reduced flavor) but until you do, do it often. If the filler is white, top off. If it takes more than 10 drops to get that slushy look on the filler, you may have waited too long.

Yup. What KeysBum said.

Also, the first time you fill a brand new carto, let it sit for ~20 minutes so the wick can become fully saturated with juice as gravity works its magic. If you hit a new carto before the juice soaks in, you could burn the wick and/or filler material, and that will make the carto unusable. It will have a burnt taste on every subsequent puff you take.

I like to keep at least 2 different cartos filled with the same flavor juice so I can rotate through them. When one carto is being filled and soaking, the other is in use. That way, you always have a fresh carto ready to roll.

spaceballsrules - Dripping the juice in from the top sounds like a good idea! I wouldn't want to waste my juice. I may try that idea first!! I guess you just add a few drops as you rotate the cartomizer in a circle, avoiding the air hole and know it's filled when the juice doesn't go down anymore? What is this people say about the filler needing to have a slushy look? Does that have to do with knowing when the carto is filled? (When you do it that way, does the juice get all the way to the bottom of the cartomizer?) Thank you for answering my TH question in this thread! I'm writing down in my notebook the ways to increase TH. Thanks a lot! :)

Scottinboca - That does sound very easy! I guess that's why people say they love their tanks! Maybe I'll try that in the future! Thanks!!! :)

To me the vertical coil types (Boge, and SmokeTech single/dualies/triple) benefit from keeping them fairly wet. Of course the viscosity and sweetness/stickyness of the liquid can make a difference here. I have some thinner all PG liquids that I can vape nearly dry then refill. The more gummy stuff I tend to rewet every 30 or 40 puffs.

These vertical design cartos have coils that are centered and run up and down the length of the carto. You can usually see a loop of wire at the top of the filler in these. The liquid is wicked 'inward' towards the center of the cartomizer (vertical coils can be quite long for some models, running nearly the entire length of the carto). Due to the way they work, they can gather dry spots a little faster than the horizontal coil cartos, and tend to need filling/topping more often.

Horizontal coil cartos (Kanger, Fusions, etc.) seem to be more tolerant of vaping them close to bone dry then refilling. These are more common in 808/901/801/302 platforms, while the vertical coil stuff pops up more often in 510 and eGo platforms.

The horizontal coil cartos have a short horizontal coil at the very bottom of the carto (more like a traditional atomizer). The liquid wicks 'downward' towards the threaded end of the carto. With these and thicker/gummier liquids, as the carto gets more empty it sometimes helps to lightly tamp/pack the PV so the liquid settles downward.

I really like the Cartomizerfillinator method introduced to us by Vapian.
I like to fill a fist-full of them and go. This method lets you do many, really quickly, and takes out the guess work, rotating, and waiting. It's also a great way to insure those 'brand new' cartos are well saturated at fill time. Fill and vape...

It really doesn't waste much liquid to be honest. After doing a few you learn how to do it with less than a 'drop' of mess to wipe off the threads.

Ah, the notebook! I use a yellow pad myself. :)

You also have the option of using a syringe with a blunt tip (most use and 18 gauge needle). You fill the syringe, stick the needle all the way into the carto, and fill from the bottom up. D.I.Y & Mixing - Pipettes, Syringes & Needles

Here's are some videos that should answer your questions...visual aids FTW!

Credo - Thank you for explaining to me about the differences between vertical and horizontal coil cartos! It was very interesting and I read it slowly so I could understand all of it! It was especially interesting how the vertical coil cartos (Boge for example) need to be filled/topped off more often because they can develop dry spots a little faster! The Cartomizerfilinator video was so cool! That was unbelievably easy and I see why you would do a bunch of them at a time and go! I may try that! I have the right kind of syringe already! :)

jontpt - Thank you for those additional instructions! I appreciate it! I'm writing all this stuff down so when I finally have all I need to vape I won't forget!

spaceballsrules - Thank you for sharing so much information with me! The 'Liberty Flights' website was interesting and might be of future use for me! Right now i have a syringe with no needle. I bought it because someone here said that he used them to flush his cartos when he cleaned them. I want to be able to do this because I have more juice samples than I do cartomizers so I'll have to share them! I'm going to watch my visual aids now so I'm thanking you in advance!!! ***Hoping no one notices the slight smiley obsession!

I like using smileys also. :rickroll:

Liberty Flights is a great site. They have a little bit of everything. Shipping is fast with them, and their prices are good. The prices are better with the 20% off coupon code, which can be found by clicking on the "Discount Codes" tab at the top of the page, right between "My Account" and "Forum."

A note about the LF coupon code: Add an item to your cart, apply the code, then continue shopping. While you are shopping, all the prices that you see will already have the 20% off applied to it. It took me a little while to realize that, and thought the code was not working. Turns out that LF was just doing the math for me beforehand. :p

...I generally use the drip-to-fill method unless I am using a really high VG juice...I regularly vape a 60%VG juice and it works fine with drip-to-fill...I use an 85%VG juice and havvta use a syringe or it just won't fill otherwise...I find about once per hour with standard sized cartos, I can drip around 15+-drops and achieve that "slushy" look...I also find, I can get about 2hrs with a standard sized carto before it gets too low to vape safely...about twice that with an XL or dual coil carto...as in all things vape related, YMMV..........
