When people make juice they take everything into consideration in the recipe. That means that contributing factors like VG (mutes flavor a bit) and water content are known and corrected for, making the juice taste the way the designer wanted it to. I make my own juice and sometimes actually change the recipe to accommodate the device it will be used on and/or the way I feel that day :thumb:

PG is very thin - like water. To the other extreme, some VG is thick and practically gloppy. Adding water to VG breaks the glycerin down, thinning it out. This then becomes both a personal preference and a matter of how well your device of choice "likes" thick VG - or not. Some devices just don't wick really thick VG fast enough resulting in dry hits. (For me - that would be the Vivi Nova) In my experience I think you get slightly less vapor with the 70 VG/30 h2o mix.

I presume that the reason for using distilled water is to avoid contaminants, not just for health reasons but also to avoid gunking up the wicks...?

I've found that if I put too much distilled water in my DIY juice, the crackling sound when you vape becomes annoying, sometimes shooting up the driptip in my RBA/RDA.

Water is mainly used to thin out VG. As for what it does to flavor, it'll be fine as long as the ratio of any artificial flavor is mixed well, just like any other juice. PG helps thin out VG as well, but for those that want 100% VG but can't seem to get it wicking well enough, water can do the job just fine. There shouldn't be any adverse effects by adding water as long as the juice is mixed correctly.
