> I see you have to be verified but is it mostly based on trust?

yes, and yes (i think)

i got verified in order to access the classys and co-ops. i've participated in 1 co-op, but haven't actually bought anything from the classys yet.

but when all is said and done, ECF can't be held responsible so trust and to a greater extent, common sense play a big part.

one noob to another...

Bubba, don't do it unless you got the intestinal fortitude. After I got verified and checked out the classifieds, I got turned out, hooked on the cheese, and now everything I do is 'bout my next fix. Doin' stuff I ain't proud of just to keep up w/ the rent money for Big Daddy.

I remember the good ol' days when the mailbox was just a place for junk mail (Victoria's Secret catalogs not included). Now it is my shrine, and I'm on my hands and knees in front of it every day.

Bubba, don't say I never warned 'ya.

I've never bought anything in the classifieds, but a lot of times it is higher end mods and RBA type of stuff. Don't get me wrong there are some beginner type things, but primarily it is more advanced. So far there hasn't been a deal that screamed out to me that I couldn't live without.

Thats a pretty good assessment. If you want a deal you have to keep a close eye they dont last long. You can PM the seller with a offer also. I almost always make a fair offer and tell them its a standing offer if they dont meet their price I have gotten some fair deals this way.
Theres also a fair amount of trading going on for those who just want to try something different but dont want to keep building a collection.

As someone who buys and sells at a decent rate in the classies, I've only had one bad experience. It hasn't stopped me though, it's no different than buying or selling anywhere, 99.9% of people are not going to rip you off (prices may be higher for some things but you agreeing to them is you ripping you off), I won't let one or two people stop me from getting some cool stuff or getting some cool stuff to other people.

A few things I would advise

  • Never pay over retail for anything made in China, even if it's out of stock now, there will be 9000 of them available in 2 weeks
  • Actually never buy anything made in china that isn't at a decent discount
  • Know what you are buying
  • Read the disclosed flaws
  • Know what the retail price
  • Look at the picture, if it's a bad one, ask for a better one.
  • Realize that if you can't get what you want for the price you want, you'll be fine without it or you'll get it elsewhere.
  • Check for availability on the item elsewhere, if it is expected somewhere or if maybe somewhere overseas has it. It helps with the next part
  • Don't be afraid to make a reasonable offer
  • Always be courteous in your interactions, it goes a long way when a seller is considering that offer.

the classies are a very bad place that makes my wallet thinner then its supposed to be. as someone who likes to play with high end gear its a great way to get something, and if you dont like it just relist it. on a side note i have seen more gear and learned of things i didnt know existed that i never seen in the regular forums. just like ebay people who have sold before have a rating. so that helps a bit. like said 99.99% of the time theres no problems because people dont want to be blacklisted, but there are some who love to price gouge for rare items.

For most of us, it's a place to buy and sell your used stuff. You can find great deals on some things, especially if you are a vaper rather than a collector. Unfortunately, for some it's also a place to buy the latest and greatest items and then try to sell them at a profit so you your retail prices and whether or not they are still being made.
