There's this whole routine I go through. Check to make sure all connections are connected, check other internet websites, click on ECF in favorites, check out FaceBook, click on ECF, vape like a crazy person, click on ECF, find SOMETHING to do, click on ECF, check connections, click on ECF....

Lol my wife is an IT in the navy I called her this morning and was what happened what dose 503 mean! She says they need bigger server. Eh Oh well just shows how much vaping is catching on and that can never be a bad thing.
Thank you ClassWife:::::: IMHO. Your not just a classwife but a class act lady. Just like all the Moderators that keep an eye on this site. Everyday I look for those I've recomended it to and keep hoping and waiting for them to show up.
The other day I got a 503 then a Forbidden after clicking it every 5 minutes. Today I just went and took a nap

When I saw the 503 I thought I was losing my mind

My computer is 10 years old and I wasn't exactly sure what was going on so I....
Cleaned up my cache, cookies, ect.
Refreshed my internet connection
Ran antivirus
Did a disk cleanup
Defragmented my hard drive
Rebooted
LOLOL
If nothing else, she certainly runs a litlle faster, lol

Actually, it probably doesn't hurt to just idle. ECF is a huge place (obviously), and sites like this are typically using several servers. One (or many) to handle the basic web page part that we see, and another (or many) to handle the background database part. The DB part is what churns up our "What's New", spits out the threads, and so forth. How many threads can you search on ECF? Who knows! Ba-jillions, at least. Just the email servers at my work have 40 disk drives.
ECF is running a stable reliable version of what may be Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Apache for the web server part.
Every kid that gets a phone thinks that "the intarwebs are free, and I want it now", but it takes big resources to keep a place like ECF going. For the volume of traffic that it does, I think ECF does an amazing job. We are lucky to have it in the first place, and lucky that the existing hardware does as well as it does! The alternative would be a 'pay service' for ECF, or more closely targeted ads.

No it won't help (if you're thinking along the lines I think you are, but thinking usually gets me in trouble . . . I think). Using the "remember me" login option just creates a cookie and when you visit the site ECF looks for that cookie to log you in automatically. When you're not actually visiting the site, you're placing no active load on their servers, and if you're not actively browsing and just sitting on one page idle, then that page is already loaded into your browser cache and is no drawing any measureable resources that I am aware of
nanovapr was pretty dead on. ECF uses a cluster of servers and does a pretty good job since we upgraded the database server.
The hardware in place is sufficient for the task - we've just got a gremlin loose in the datacenter and sometimes they are harder to resolve than you would think. John is working on the issue and with any luck he'll have a more permanent solution to our most recent gremlin before long.
