Ok, Last week, I went through a few days (3-4) to be able to actually taste what I was vaping. Then everything came back.

Now I am having a new issue and an issue I have had from the start.

Tobacco flavors just dont hardly work for me and I want them to. I want at least a couple that I can go to when I get that craving for a real cig. I have 7 different tobacco flavors from different vendors. The ones I can taste briefly are BWB's Hunters blend and RY4. I say briefly in that by the time I finish a cartridge, I pretty much have lost the taste. If I try to vape the same thing again, the flavor is gone and it kinda tastes like I am vaping water at that point.
Now, I had an opposite reaction last night. I tried Tasty vapors tobacco and at first, all I tasted was water. Then I finally got a taste of it near the end of the cart and it actually tasted pretty good. I have tried 2 carts of it since then and nothing though. Just watery nothingness.

I usually mix up my vapes. One fruit, one tobacco and so forth. I probably go through 6-8 carts a day. I have also modified my cart and only have a small portion of polyfill in it and thats to keep it from leaking. Closest to dripping I can get without actually having to drip.

I usually start out with BWB's Peach. Very tasty!! Then go to a tobacco. usually one of his and then switch back to peach or maybe another fruity flavor then back to tobacco. I have tried to do all fruity and all tobacco and in every case, they all end up the same. Everything tasting like water.

What is up with my tastebuds? Since I started vaping, I have found that I am staying more thirsty and my increase of diet sodas has increased by a couple extra a day. That is usually all I drink as I have not been a big water drinker since I was a little kid. The last couple of days I have increased my water intake to. Usually around 2 20 ounce glasses of water.

Anyone else run into this issue? its really starting to annoy me and I can't figure out why it keeps happening. At least the taste isn't completely gone like last time, it just isn't staying around like it should.

As a side note: I have tried 2 different attys and an LR atty and the above still happens to me regardless of what atty it is and all these attys are only a couple weeks old. And if I am switching flavors, I always blow out my atty and prime with the current flavor I am going to vape.

I too have been drinking tons of water since I started vaping, but I think that may be par for the course. I have about 3 different types of tobacco flavors I rotate thru, Virginia Fire Cured, Wyatt Earp and Turkish Premium. I notice that if I keep vaping the same one (while it tastes great) the flavor sorta wears off. At that point, i'll go to a different tobacco flavor or go to a green tea/menthol or Thin Mint or something. Seems to 'freshen up' the palette.

It could be that your tastebuds are getting too used to flavor you're vaping at the time. I think it works better to switch around every 4-5 hours or so.

But yeah, i'm going thru bottles of water like there's no tomorrow.

Vaping dehydrates you so you have to drink alot more water.

Your taste buds get all wonky at times when you vape. I usually vape the same three or four flavors a day. When those flavors start to lose their flavor I will spend a day of two vaping something different. Then when I go back to my regular vapes they taste great.

Maybe you need to increase the power (watts) of your vape, e.g., by increasing the battery voltage or decreasing the atomizer resistance (i.e., "LR" attys).

And/or try a different model atomizer. I prefer the flavor from the 801 (and other penstyle attys) over the oh so popular 510 ... and I've read that many 510 users are grooving on the 306 atty.

And certainly switch off frequently. Redbone said "every 4-5 hours or so." I switch off every four drops. And that leads me to...

You used the word 'cartridge'. What's that? Is that the thing that I read about in historical texts, which vapers used before they discovered dripping?;) Seriously, I never found cartridges to be very effective in delivering e-liquid to the atomizer. Cartomizers do it fairly well, but I don't like their taste. Until I break down and buy a juice-fed mod, dripping is the only way I vape.

Well, I did the mod where you pull out the polyfill from the cartridge and cut off about 80% of it and just use it as a stopper. I was dripping up till that point and found that this worked really well for me. It retained the flavor nicely and I do not lose any flavor till the very last drop. No topping off or anything as its just a stopper to hold your juice in the cart.

I have tried it on LR attys (I use the 510 attys) and saw no real difference for me losing flavor as it will happen regardless of LR or regular. I do have a 5v pass-through coming so we will see how that works out. Ok, so maybe its more carts than I realized. I usually changed carts every 1-2 hours with a different flavor.

I to am planning on getting a juice-fed mod at some point just to get away from carts all together. I want as hassle free a vape as I can get and dripping is just way to much work. The carts aren't much better but at least with the mod I did, I dont have to top off at all during the vape.

I am also vaping a lot, and I do mean a LOT! I always have it with me and probably hit it 2 or 3 times, every 5 minutes or so. So I am basically vaping almost all the time.

My usual intake of liquid is somewhere around 8 diet sodas a day since I started vaping. and the last couple days I have been adding 2 20 ounce glasses of water. So I don't think I am getting dehydrated or at least, I don't feel like I am.

i would sooo like to be able to taste my favorite juice again. hope my tastebuds return again soon. all my juices currently taste the same. sigh...

Yeah it's the same with me... can't really figure it out.

Should I clean atomizers more often?

Dedicate an atomizer per flavor so they don't mix?

Maybe a higher voltage?

It's been a while since the taste, or even smell of my e-cig has really been noticeable. I'm using a standard 510 I got from zigcigs, and it's still working great... but yeah, the taste buds aren't being hit like they use to.

I just got done having the same issue. It lasted about a week, and during that time i did everything i could think of outside of resorting to an analog. My symptoms were very similar. You get the flavor for the begining of your vaping cession, then absolutely nothing. Just empty favor. Dont fret too much, like i did.

The flavor in mine came back in just under a week. Hehe, just dont blow your favorite uices till it comes back.

I must say that it was very strange. and i am still not sure what caused it. Though, i will say that i did not place an emphasis on drinking more water than normal. But hey, drinking more water couldnt hurt anyway so it could be worth trying.

Though i do find it pretty interesting that you and i both started this at about the same time, I think i was about a week before you registered. And i had these symptoms a week befre you did. hmmmmm

The flavor loss thing happens to me every few weeks. I just switch out flavors for a day or two, then I can go back to my "go-to". My "go-to" vape is one flavor. The same thing.. day and night. I can taste it wonderfully for about 3 weeks.. then need a break.

As for the water.. adding 2 extra sodas will not help the dehydration. You need water. Not bubbled water.. not flavored water.. not tea, coffee, nor soda. Your body is craving water. Believe me when I say.. I am not a water drinker either.. but I now try and drink 3 big bottles a day. (and that's in addition to the tea, coffee, soda.. etc) Even at that amount, I still am probably not getting enough.

HTH!

You have been vaping 23 days according to you siggy. It took about a month before my tastebuds came back in full. Then food started tasting different. Some of it bad, some of it good, and some of it amazingly fantastic.

Keep in mind that cigarette smoking damages your tastebuds and until they come back you might have a few issues with taste.

BUT ( notice the big but ) there are a bunch of us that have to rotate flavors in order to keep the taste. Its just the way things are, we get used to a flavor and eventually the flavor seems weak. Try rotating very different flavors from day to day and see if that helps AFTER you notice the taste of food change.

lastly increase your water intake. I never liked the taste of water personally but the symptoms of dehydration are much worse than the taste. And vaping WILL dehydrate you.

Yep I agree with this totally.
Also want to comment that soda, even diet has caffeine which also can cause dehydration, so drinking more soda and not more water is not gonna help the dehydration. I personally dislike water and like coffee. I drank more coffee and got more dehydrated. Now I have a glass of water after every cup of coffee and am not dehydrated anymore.

Same thing hit me, I'd been vaping for about 10 days then about 2PM one day I couldnt taste anything. Next day I was good up to noon, then since (25ish days since I changed over) then I usually lose the flavor around 6pm plus or minus a few hours.

I tend to chain-vape so I think I'm just overloading my taste buds/smell receptors. I try to keep the vapor stream from hitting directly on my tongue and it seems to help. I've noticed that if I give it a break for an hour the flavor will come partly back.

I've also noticed that if I overfill a cart and am getting liquid in my mouth I'll go flavor-numb much more quickly. Its just starting winter here and the ambient humidity has gone way down and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks for the comments. I think I may now understand a little more why my taste was failing, thanks to Maast. First off, I usually try to drink caffeine free diets except for first thing in the morning. Got to have some caffeine lol. I have increased my intake of water from none to two 20 ounce glasses a day which may in fact not be enough but again, I do not feel like I am dehydrated at all, at least not enough that is readily noticeable. I do understand that I need more water and less soda, but thats going to be a fighting battle for me. Heck, it was pretty hard to switch from normal sodas to diet sodas, so I will work on that more.
However, Maast mentioned something that I think may have caused my issues. I did on several occasions get some juice in my mouth and thinking back on it, that is when it started to lose flavor. I am betting that is what did it this time. Even this morning, it was still weaker than normal but around lunch time I got a bunch of my DIY stuff in. I ended up making a pineapple mix 60%VG 40%PG. This was just a test and I made a 2.5ml sample of it. That was 1ml 48mg nic juice (50/50 pg/vg). 1ml of VG and .5ml of pg. Then just 2 drops of PA pineapple. That has been very tasty and I have been vaping it for several hours now with no degradation of flavor. Absolutely insane amount of vapor from that haha. Surprisingly not only no loss of flavor but I have vaped like 3-4 carts full of it back to back with no flavor loss.

So I believe I must have did it to myself by overloading my carts and getting some juice in my mouth.

It doesn't matter how "little" filler you use it changes or cuts the flavor. Dripping or the juice box is the only way to go.
I do a light cinnamon most of the day except once or twice a day and the flavors come through big time.
