hard to say something without knowing the diagram.
I could guess there is a 1st stage RF amplifier tube, an IF oscillator an if amplifier and an audio amplifier.
What i would do, is remove the tubes one by one, try to carefully clean them to find what kind of tube they are,
and look up on the internet to find spare.
Assuming the radio fires up, change one tube at time to see if it start playing.....

Edit: forgot to say: a couple of capacitors in the audio section would probably need to be changed as well.

...Speaking of old radios and tinkering/fixing things - I got this radio as a hand me down, trying to fix it!...

Hey B94 - vintage radio is a hobby of mine - I have 300+ tube sets of all types (mainly portables) in the 'collection'. I can say with certainty that, if your Fada is original and has never been touched, it will almost certainly need all its paper/wax capacitors replacing. The tubes are probably OK - they are a lot tougher than people think.

Have you tried posting a help request on the Antique Radio Forum? It's the premier board for the subject at Antique Radio Forums :: Index

@.....: It doesnt even fire up, but it needs cleaning. I found a schematic online View attachment FADA 609 - 610 schematic.pdf, but tubes are a still more mystery than sense to me. ;)

@Eddie: Thanks for the tip! :) Yes it is all original, and I am the first person to have the cover off of it. That makes sense about the paper/wax caps, I will go over to that forum you linked and start browsing. This old tech is pretty wild - all of my electronics theory is transistor level and up, tube stuff is kind of a black void.

@Rudy: Wow, that soap looks really cool! The top soap makes me hungry - lol :D

I'm a bit rusty with tubes as well, and I agree on what Eddie said: Il check the capacitors , and the 35Z5GT rectifier, just because it doesn't fire up.
Anyway, 1st of all, a complete checkup of the power cord could save you a lot of time. I learned it the hard way haha! :D

That's nice soap! My fiancee lives in So-Cal and she was used to make homemade soap as well.
She stopped when she moved in a studio, but now we got a MobileHome so she probably will start messing up again :D
In fact i'm not sure I want to give her Perfume Apprentice's link! LOL

I wish I had a readily available source for fresh goats milk. The closest place I can find it is 100 miles away :( I usually have to go with the canned milk, or buy organic stuff at the health food store which is very expensive

My main hobby is restoring pinball machines. I take games that are generally well worn and restore them to like-new. Some are total restorations, some are partial depending on the condition. I have 10 games, stretching from 1952 to 1999. Here's a link to one that was the equivalent to a frame-up restoration; a 1975 El Dorado. Unfortunately it was destroyed in a serious house fire we had last year, but at least I can still share pics of it.. El Dorado - a set on Flickr

If I had a way I can send you some... It doesn't matter if it spoils - actually some soap makers prefer is spoiled because of the lactic acid. I freeze it in 36oz batches because I make 6lb of soap at a time *100oz if oil. I currently get 1 gallon a day after feeding 3 baby goats...

Behind you
Shooting (handgun and long-range rifle), Go (between 13 - 11kyu), and homemade drones of all sorts... working on my first proper underwater ROV now. I like hobbyist blacksmith work and leather work but haven't done either in years. And hacking toys and home appliances of all sorts.. I try not to leave any unmodified for longer than a year. It's a good way to keep the wife on her toes. -Magnus

for those of you that like to plink, or shoot- my boys and hubby have bought a smith and wesson 10-22 or something- (its an ugly gun, so I didnt pay any attention to it) and they LOVE it- its by smith and wesson and I think its built on an AK frame or some such.. an M and P?? anyway- according to them and everyone else who has one like it, its a nail driver- the 6 year old girl REALLY loves it. and honestly, I am glad, I'd rather buy .22 shells than I had shotgun ANYTIME! LOL

yes, reloading is a hobby in itself~! we used to reload, both rifle and shotgun. But it wasnt worth replacing the stuff when we lost it.

FYI, when your house is on fire, and the fire reaches the reloading supplies, the 'whoosh' that happens when the powder catches on fire is pretty cool- the bullets NOT so much- and the BRAND NEW bottle of KENRA hairspray- that goes through 2 walls and lands about 200 feet away.... waaaayyyy not cool..... LOL

it was getting expensive when we did it- plus we had to drive to this side of Houston to get the supplies. that was a 2 hour drive. and my kids shoot skeet- buying ammo by the pallet is MUCH cheaper. LOL
