For those really experienced and having good luck with tank cartos...what brand, size, ohms and holes punched would you recommend for a 510 ego or riva battery using 70 pg/ 30 vg juice in a 3.5 ml tank? Also, would like to know your fail proof priming method. Thanks

I use these Smoktek Single Coil tank replacement cartos:

Single Coil XL Tank Cartomizer for the SmokTank XL

I had been using the dual coil variety of these only because that is what originally came in my tanks. But I sometimes would get a harsh, burnt taste with them, even tho I was quite sure the carto was getting enough juice. After doing some investigation here on the forums, I decided to give the single coil variety a try.

The single coils give the same flavor and vapor production as the two coil. No more burnt taste or harshness. I'm getting longer battery life with the single coils.

I use 2.0 ohm resistance for my 3.7v mods. 3.0 ohm for the Provari. I get some with one hole lazer drilled and some with two holes. The single holes get the 50pg/50vg juices, the two holes get any juice with 60% or more vg. I get excellent juice flow with these as long as I choose the correct number of holes to the viscosity of the juices.

I stopped self-punching my cartos as I was warping too many of them with my punch tool. Being out-of-round, they often were difficult to get through the endcaps. Buying pre-punched cartos provides me with consistancy. It's worth it to me.

I fill my cartos by dripping into the top, using a wooden tooth pic in the airhole to keep unwanted juice out. I patiently fill until the polyfill looks like a slushy drink. Remove the tooth pic.

I use the Big Daddy Vapors Slap-Yo-Momma tank tool next. It simplifies and speeds the tank assembly and juice filling by leaps and bounds. (It also protects the tank's o-rings, which keep the tank from leaking.)

It goes into the top of the prepped cartomizer like a drip tip, then I put it and the carto into the bottom of the assembled tank. The carto goes in only 3/4 of the way, and I fill the tank with juice through the opening of the top endcap. Once filled, the carto is pushed the rest of the way up. SYM tool is removed and replaced with a drip tip. Ready to vape. See video below.

I can second the choice on the single coil Smoktek cartos.I use the 2.0s and the flange at the bottom and the ability to get them with 1-3 pre-punched holes helps when you are using thicker juices.

Buying a tapered stainless steel drip tip to insert in the carto BEFORE you insert it into the tank will save your o-rings as well. I prime mine with 8-10 drops of juice since I use XL's and I just gently tap it several times and my desk and wait for the liquid to go down.Keep adding juice until its slushy looking and then blow it out into a paper towel.

Its second nature to me now.

Wonderful info baditude and zapped! I've been getting single coil 1.7 ohms but my next order will be for single hole 2.0 ohms. I guess it has to be my juice blend that is way too thin for the double hole with my 70pg/30vg juice. I really do like using tank cartos but lately the flooding issue is getting me quite irritated. I will also blow into a paper towel after i get it primed. I've just been vaping these flooded cartos without the tank and have plenty of paper towels handy to catch the seeping out of the holes. I'll be glad when that day comes when i get these mastered and it all becomes second nature to me also :) That tank tool looks like something i may have to try also.

Definitely get the S-Y-M tank tool. There are others on the market, but this particular design works best IMHO.

The flooding that you have experienced so far could be from using too many holes for your particular juice. Also, the particular technique of how you draw on your battery. Slow, steady draws work best for me; as opposed to hard pulls. A too hard pull could be pulling too much juice into the carto. Once a carto is too flooded, it's difficult to recover it.

Don't forget the tooth pic in the air hole during carto prepping, too.
