What mistakes did you make when you first started vapeing ?

Biggest mistake? Too many to choose from. How bout the messiest? Got my evod (love it still) enjoyed it immediately. Got into my groove with vaping for a couple of weeks. Then, one night sitting up in bed watching a movie, my battery was dead. No biggie, I have extras charged because YA'LL are smart and told me to always have a backup for my backup. Go to twist my battery off and low and behold, *eewww* I twisted the top off instead of the bottom and now I have strawberry banana all over me, my sheets and my comforter! Who knew that ejuice would spread so dang fast! Let me be clear.... The juice was not absorbed into my bedding right away, it spread out everywhere like fat in a hot skillet! So now, I'm jumping out the bed, hollering at the husband to get up and move! This stuff is everywhere. I grab a rag, clean it up, (I ain't changing sheets at midnight) and get on with life. The whole room reeks of strawberry banana. I reek. And now I can no longer vape the strawberry banana. I also pay way more attention when unscrewing the battery! Over a week later, all bedding has been washed and I swear, I can still smell the damn strawberry banana!

Such an easy mistake to make at first! I was paranoid as all hell with that.

One other kind of silly mistake I made while cleaning the protank II was rinsing the coil without taking the flavour wicks out... Quickly down the drain they went. Luckily I had bought extra heads! Not all was lost but my heart slightly sank as I fumbled with trying to catch the 2 tiny pieces of cotton (I think?) whirling towards the drain.

Oh well. Live and learn.

..and vape.

Let's just say, when I started vaping back in late 2010, there weren't a lot of choices available. I can only imagine what new vapers go through in deciding what PV and toppers etc to purchase. I would have to say my biggest mistake was getting roped into 808 instead of 510 equipment. 808 equipment unfortunately became the "Betamax" of the industry.

My "mistake" (in the sense that I think you're asking) was paying like $50 for a Blu rechargeable starter kit from Walgreens, getting a glimpse of the potential there, yet being totally and completely frustrated with the short life of the batteries and the carts.

So it was back to analogs for another two years.

I came here one day on a whim. Well, it was more like a frantic "I'm done with my Chantix prescription, I'm still smoking, and I've gotta try something else!".

Back then, I didn't know the difference between an eGo and an IGO. I began reading and stumbled upon Halo. They had just released their Triton. I knew from experience that I needed more liquid availability, and more power to vaporize it. A larger battery and a tank seemed like a reasonable next step. I liked that Halo was based in NJ and had a good reputation around these parts. I very much liked that they were a simple solution to the overwhelming variety of hardware out there - after the starter kit, I could get extra batteries, tanks, and coils from one place, and they were guaranteed to work.

I quit smoking for good the same day my starter kit arrived, over six months ago. No cravings, no desire to ever go back to analogs.

I guess I do wish I had come here sooner.

I've since moved on to iTaste vv, Vamo, and Provari. I rebuild my Aerotank coils with 30 gauge kanthal and cotton. My Tritons got some use recently, during a family Disney World trip, but mostly they just sit in their box now. But I'll never ever throw them out or sell them. When I open the drawer they live in, I give them a wink and whisper a little "Thank you".

When we talk about "mistakes", numero uno would be smoking in the first place.

I look at vaping as a means to correct that big mistake. So, thinking of it like that, getting a Blu was *not* a mistake - it was a step in the right direction.

I am new to the form and have been a smoker for 3 or 4 years and I too am trying to take that step in the right direction. I have owned a PV for about a year and a half, but I never really gave it a chance till about two months ago. I also have some background knowledge in Mechatronics and understand Ohms law( for the most part). anyway I picked up a Ego Twist VV (900mah and 1100mah) and a Protank.
Now my first mistake was Not Reading the Instructions. As well as Not Researching the Products I had.
I think as you think before you do It should not be too tough to avoid such mistakes. My personal opinion, Use Critical thinking and brainstorm what the problem is, and once you find the real problem. it will be a matter of Doing a little research online and practice.
Now for "advanced Vaping" by my definition is once you make the jump to RDA type devices. I am in the proses of buying my First Mech mod and cheep RDA for getting the hang of rebuilding. Any Opinions on that would be Great.
Thank you,
Dalton

Just like learning how to smoke analogs for the first time, you cant just take a massive inhale the first time. You gotta break in your throat. I jumped from a 1.5 ohm Cartomizer tank system to 0.6 ohm coiled Trident v2 clone, my first inhale was like breathing in tear gas!!! Yes I was heavily influences by watching RipTripper and Grimmgreen vids. I upped my build to a 1.4 ohm coil and that is what I'm comfortably with.

Besides being ripped off on my first ego starter kit, I would say the mistake I continually made when I first started vaping was buying juice on a whim, because it looked good, or because the flavor or description sounded good. I probably still have some of those bottle sitting in my drawer lol. Now i primarily prefer to order juices online, or try based on strong recommendation. It's still hard since taste is so subjective but I at least have eliminated wasting money on random juice brands.

I went overboard in the beginning "stocking up" on juices from MBV, ordered so many flavors and all at 18mg my head was spinning:laugh: I realized there were a ton of other juice makers out there to try, and I had to drop the nic level especially w/RDA's... Well I'm stocked up alright! with a bunch of juice ill probley never use again!

Thinking "bigger is better!" No, the smallest sample sizes of juice are best until you find one you like... then, yeh, bigger is better if it costs less per ml that way. And, no, batteries are batteries and the smallest device I can get with the amount of mah I want is best. The only exception is maybe some extra length for a usb passthrough but other than that... all bazookas are in the backup cabinet.
