Since beginning the vaping experience with an Ego starter kit in May, already beginning to move on. A Vamo V3 should arrive tomorrow. The purpose of the Vamo is experimenting with a VV/VW device and how different resistances effect the e-juices chosen to use. The problem is not having gained enough information to make a good choice of a rebuildable atomizer to use. I work in the electrical engineering field so the technical aspects aren't an issue. Did a tremendous amount of studying on batteries and feel confident enough to eventually move to a mech mod once the resistance is understood. For now though, will be using a X9 Protank at 2.4Ω which should be just about right according to a vaping Power Chart found on another ECF thread. (PDF attached...I think). Unfortunately this isn’t a rebuildable atomizer and has a fixed resistance. Need your suggestions please.

  • · Best rebuildable atomizer in your opinion
  • SS mesh or silica wick
  • Type of wire
  • SS or glass tank

Thanks to all for the help!!! View attachment Vaping Power Chart.pdf

I would say that you should get silica and SS mesh. Building a working coil with mesh, takes a bit of finesse, while it is a bit easier with silica. I would recommend Smoktech's RSST. They have a nice tank and are easier to set up than the AGA-t. Genesis atomizers are made to use SS mesh, but you can use silica, cotton, or ceramic.

+1 on the RSST . pretty easy to work on as well. I use 2mm ekowool and kenthal a1 ribbon with mine @1.3 ohms with ss wick and 4 wraps of #400 ss mesh on the top of the wick where i wrap my coil , that's on my vamo . and the same setup on my mech mod but @.8 ohms. also drilled the air hole out to 3.2mm or 1/8".

BLACKBEARDNY...Like the idea of wrapping the ekowool wick with the SS at the top. Should keep the the actual wick from burning up. Is there any prep to the ekowool. Have read some threads where folks will heat the wick until it glows red, I think similar to how the SS is oxidized. Doesn't make sense to me but has put has put a question in mind. Is there any special prep for ekowool, silica, cotton, etc.?

I worded this wrong. the ekowool i use for my rda ( dripper ). i use 2.5mm ss cable as a wick for the rsst with the 4 wraps of #400 ss mesh on the top . sorry for any confusion .

Got it. Thanks for clarification BLACKBEARDNY. Haven't thought about using a SS cable as a wick. Shouldn't burn that out too quick. Have to give that some thought.

Checked out the RSST. Looks good. The price is right too.

Looks like there's still more reading to do on all of this. Would have never thought about using a SS cable as a wick. Is there a forum on ECF to cover tips and tricks like that?

Your question certainly entails a subjective answer.

Since I started vaping, I quickly became a "gen-head". Mesh was the only "true" way to go, I scoffed at silica-based atomizers and wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.

Then, some months ago, along comes the Kayfun 3.1 ES. Loads of hype, and I thought "ok, lets see what this thing actually is" while being certain that I'd be selling it within a few days.

Well... Not so much... Almost all my gennies are gone now, replaced by silica-based atomizers. Kayfun 3.1, Kayfun Lite, Taifun GT... Great atomizers, and they beat the hell out of any genisis based atty out there. Incredibly easy to set up, virtually leak free, great flavor and vapor.

Now... While the above is MY opinion, I have to say that the only way you'll find your favorite, is by trial and error. There are so many "complexities" to the different types of atomizer, that it is very very difficult to just say "Go that route".

That said, I wholeheartedly agree on starting with a cheapish rebuildable dripper. The advantage here is that you have the option of messing around with different types of setup, be it silica-, mesh- or cotton based.

If I was to recommend what to get, based on your input, I would recommend getting three different devices:

An Igo-L rebuildable dripper
An Aga-T rebuildable atomizer for mesh-based setups
A Nautilus atomiser for silica based setups (bear in mind that this one is a tad tricky, as it requires both resistance- and non-resistance wire)

This should show you the best of the "three worlds".

I could also just recommend you get a Kayfun Lite. It is a silica based atty, and one of the best out there (does not require non-resistance wire).

But hey.. that'd just be my recommendations :)

All that right there is why I am holding off changing to a ego system. Allot of this is all greek to me. I know what a coil wrap looks like, torn a few of my V2 carts apart after they stopped working and watch a few videos on how to make one. But to get it all right(about the ohms) on a rebuildable is beyond my understanding right now.

Edited: To me from all the many posts I have read in hear. You have to be an electrician to understand all the electronical talk, ohms, amps, mah, volts, etc. I'm 59, made many things in my life, torn allot of things apart fixed them, but electronics and electricity I could never understand.

If I can see it, I can figure it out, can't see electriciy so could never figure it out.

I use boiled cotton wicks on RSST. I use a bolt to wrap coil and a bead threader to lightly push the wick through. Even burning coil is the trick part. I check it for 2.5ohms then set SVD to 9.5. I'm an idiot but have had great luck on RSST. Mesh is metal so it would get funky on me. If you are an EE RSST may be too beginner for you.
