Hey guys!

I got my smok Xcube II yesterday and have (had) been really enjoying it. A little while ago, no matter what tank or RDA I put on there, it would read "check atomizer". I did all the usual troubleshooting techniques (reset, took the batteries out, used a screwdriver to bounce the pin up and down, etc.) with no luck.

So I carefully opened the top by removing the 4 hex screws and was met with this:

The shoddy weld to the pin had been snapped. FTR, I opened it up extremely carefully and I am sure that I did not cause it to break.

So here's the thing. This is my replacement because my first was really muffed up right out of the box (scratches everywhere, clear coat peeling). The vendor has gone above and beyond to help me to be satisfied, but when I sent this pic along with an explanation, he reminded me that now that I have opened it, Smok (and seemingly he) won't touch it. I really didn't think about it at the time, I just wanted to have my vape break at work :(

So, what options do I have here? The way I see it, I could try to get a warranty replacement through Smok on my own, hoping that they don't know I opened it. I could also figure out a way to weld it back. Although I am relatively handy, I have no experience doing things of this nature.

Advice? Could someone walk me through a weld?

Thanks

Good Grief

Get a Soldering Gun
Heat it up good
Touch the wire to the Solder on the pin
Touch both with the soldering tip
When it Flashes to liquid, move the soldering tip away and Blow on the Hot solder
Lightly jiggle and if solid, Assemble and Vape

Yea, When I read this... immediately, I thought, you opened it, Voided any warranty. Never open electronics if you wanna have a warranty... or at least, never let anyone know you opened it, cuz it almost always voids warranties.
The other thing I thought... soldering gun... Maybe a bit of Solder, Heat and go.

You can do it.
Once you find all the gear, it'll only take a few minutes.

I took a better look at the photo.... it was a cold solder joint... ( didnt allow the solder to become hot enuf for a good connection.... while you are at it ( getting it fixed) you may want to consider resoldering the negative wire too... just to make sure its got a good bead also....

Thanks for all the great replies everyone!

I still have my old faithful (Sigelei 100w), so I opted to send it in for a warranty replacement. I decided to do this because it was janky right out of the box (scratches, scuffs, etc), so I was hoping I'd get one that was in better shape, so I could be the one to scratch and scuff it :)

Did not mention I opened it. I checked for any way that they could know and I didn't see anything.

I'll let you know how it progresses!

Solder it. At 50 years old I had never used a solder iron before. Well except when I was kid and played with one just because my parent told me not to.

Anyway my first flat screen a 1500 buck one from samsung. 1 day out of warranty it would not turn on for a few presses. over that week it increased to 20 clicks until the next day it just would not turn on. Called samsung. I got a response sorry it is out of warranty and it would be around 300 bucks to fix. I felt sorry for the verbal abuse that poor person received. They had nothing to do with samsung's crappy TV. I did a google and found that samsung used cheap capacitors on their board. A quick trip to radio shack and 20 bucks later I came home with a solder iron and a few capacitors. I was already resigned to buying a new tv because I would not pay 300 to get this one fixed. a couple hours later I had the 4 bad capacitors replace on the board, only messing up my first solder. Worst part was getting the old solder off the board. The TV is great but why on earth they would put a cheapo capacitor in is beyond me. A 1500 tv is worthy of at least a 59 cent capacitor I replaced the 5 cent ones with.

If at 50 I can do my first solder job anyone can do it because I am very clumsy. Just make sure to remove the battery if possible. 10 dollar solder iron at radio shack and some wire for a few cents.
