# of wraps depends on size of the coil, this might help (Ohm's law | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators). I've tried small micro coils and larger spaced coils. You just have to experiment a little to find what you like, the cotton should be fine, never boiled any I used. The wicking is the real trick.

So I finally decided to rewick my stash of burnt out protank coils. What size kanthal would be ideal to make coils from 1.8-2.2 ohms? I want to stay in the safe range for my sigelei.

I've found charts and equations but electronics are not exactly my forte.

If they are burnt out you need to recoil.
- 30 gauge is an allround useable gauge, both for those protank coils and for rebuildables.
- rip tripper has a video where he shows using 28 gauge on a protank coil and vaping at some 20 watts I think;
- 32 gauge would be more normal, but difficult to work with, plus the thinner wire is more likely to burn out than the thicker wire.

1.8-2.2?
My 30 gauge coils are in the 2.6 range; 10 wraps , 3mm id; vape at 5 to 5.5 volts . around 10 watts

Sorry I meant recoil.

The 1.8-2.2 range Is the resistance that the pack of protank attys I buy come in. I know the lowest resistance my sigelei will fire is 1.3 but I do not know the upper limit.

Alright so I ordered 100ft of 28 and 31 gauge wire to see which I prefer, get the hang of things, and have extra since I'll probably make more than a few mistakes. I have a multimeter but it's for standard electronics. So I plan on picking up one of those vaping multimeters everyone seems to have in the YouTube vids.

sounds good.
use the steam engine coil calculator when wrapping coils.
those protank coils you can usually rewick them quite a few times before they need recoiling.
you sigelei probably goes up to 3 ohms; perhaps 5.
if you plan on using around 2 ohms, you shouldn't need the dedicated ohmmeter, but its nice to have I guess; I don't have one; I just use my vamos; they measure ohms without firing the coil.
