I started out vaping 20 watts at 400 degrees. I noticed the wattage would jump to almost 40 watts for the first few seconds. I decided to lower the temperature to 300 degrees at 20 watts. The wattage only jumped up to 30 watts for the first few seconds after doing this. I feel that I do not get such a harsh vape when I vape at the lower wattage.

I run my KFL+ at 16.5-18 watts depending on the juice. Pretty much always at 430. I didn't have much wire so I wasn't messing around too much. Just got an order in from Lightning Vapes so I will start messing around with other builds/attys. I tried a Quasar RDA but failed and kept hitting temp protect so the vape was brutal at best.

Then you were not vaping 20 watts at 400 degrees; you were merely vaping 400 degrees.
Starting at 20 degrees, when you pressed the button, the mod fired 40 watts until the temperature reached 400 degrees, then it continued at 20 watts to keep the temperature at 400 degrees.
