Yeah I second the notion of metal caps. Make them an after market add on. Thats the main reason I have not gone to solely using the LT, I drop my prodigy all the time, if I dropped my LT it would break the end cap. So I just use the LT in my house where it is carpeted and take the prodigy out and about with me. The LT version I got from Le Cig on sale has a 2800 mAh battery supposedly (I have no way to tell), which is why I bought it, not having to carry around spare batteries around with me when I am going to be gone all day.
Actually, the caps - at least the bottom cap - is metal. The plastic is a separate shell attached by means of 2 plugs inserted into 2 holes in the metal cap. This is actually a mechanism for venting. If your battery vents, the plastic plugs should let loose and allow the outer shell to fall away, opening up the two vent holes.
If you really want the look of a metal cap, use something to punch out the plastic plugs that hold the plastic shell on the bottom cap. Then, you'll have a metal cap with two vent holes in it that you can paint or something. You'll lose some stability when you stand it upright, however. And it probably won't be as easy for some people to screw on and off.
I like it the way it is. the plastic is pretty tough and I prefer it to having a metal cap with two big open holes in it.

I have suggested the lavatube 2 people, and they really like it at first and now three are broken and have gone out for repair... 2 of them the buttons kept misfiring and another was droped and the top came right off and the ground wire broke. I really liked it when I first used it as well but be gentle with them you get what you pay for!!...IMO
Look at the downsides of the LT. They are easily fixed. Get a provari V2.

Maybe I'll just get a Lavatube kit, a Tox kit, a 3 year warranty on both of them that includes dropping and kicking damage, and a Silver or Baby Bullet for when I'm in the mood to run over my PV with a truck. Total cost $237 plus shipping. Then, I'll have 2 18650 sized VV's, one smaller sized VV, and one 18650 or 14500 sized 3.7/6V tube mod that you can't kill with a sledgehammer.
(For anyone considering a Lavatube or Tox, I recommend getting a Squaretrade 3 year warranty, including accidental and handling damage coverage, for $16. It's cheap insurance and they really do pay off fast and easy, especially for low dollar items like the Lavatube.)

Lava tube needs a telescopic tube to handle all batteries and the amp limitations need to be changed for more amps last replacement end caps.
The LT is the proff that a cheaper, reliable VV could be made. For that, it does a wonderful job. If you want the best and cost is not an option, there are some options that are much tougher (such as the ProVari) and have a longer track record. My biggest problem with vaping...I go all pokemon and think I need to collect all the PV's. I choose you LavaTube! Could it be better? Certainly. Is it a great value for the money? Absolutely.

I got a LT to step into VV. I have a prodigy also. I like the LT but I think I am eventually going to sell both and buy a provari.
