We're starting to explore the possibility of designing and building our own electronic cigarette. Would like your input!

  • Favorite atomizers? If you could just have one atomizer, what would it be?

  • Battery size vs appearance (we want to have a product that potential vapers wont be turned off to).

  • Manual vs auto switch (again)

  • I've been using a 510 in addition to my Nebula, and think it might prove to be a good platform as far as the atomizer and draw goes... What do you think? :)

  • We're looking into building everything, though atomizers MAY still be sourced elsewhere.
Meeting with our manufacturer tomorrow to brainstorm and would like to bring some suggestions from our community. Appreciate anything you guys would add.

You asked so... Off the top of my head -- I'd prefer no red/orange LEDs or white bodies. If the vaporizer doesn't look like a cigarette, vapers are less likely to be hassled.

I don't have a screwdriver or a penstyle, so I can't comment on those products; I do know that I like my 401's size and atomizer but the ease of filling the VX2's cartridges. I doubt there's a way to get both those features (exposed atomizer and easy-fill cartridge) on the same device, but if I was Empress of the Universe (or designing...) that's what I'd ask for.

I like the Blu's hard, recycled plastic mouthpiece better than the 401's kinda squishy one (which closely resembles a 401 mouthpiece from the outside) and prefer its internal cartridge to that of the 401. I prefer the round mouthpieces to the cigarillo-tip mouthpieces. I like the 401 and the Blu's atomizer styles.

There... my nickel's worth of ideas.

I want an atomizer that can actually be cleaned.
I want an atomizer that doesn't have solder joints that break.
I want an atomizer that is user servicable.
I want a juice delivery system that doesn't require fiddling around with on a regular basis.

Well, ya did ask......
small juice pump would be nice...........aside from that I want the opposite..I want throw away atty's

In a 510 with a stronger battery. I also agree with previous post about these (smokeless vaporizer's) not looking like cigarettes. Anything colored is good.

You'll probably need to make small ones like 510 and medium sized mods

Definitely a Screwdriver type PV but with the button on the top/side of the device. An atomizer that holds more liquid similar to an 801 but with the draw/feel and taste of the 901. Gotta have the bigger volts and mA (output) to get consistent throat hit and longer recharge life. Looking like the "stick" would be fine as long as it is built better.

In fact, for vaping to gain more acceptance, the more the PV DOES NOT look like an analog is a plus.

I would hope that this venture would be a cartomizer style PV. I like having a cart that I can throw away, grab another, and not have to worry about the condition of the atomizer. Plus, although they are more expensive than standard carts, they are cheaper in the long run. In a 3 piece PV, 5 carts + 5 atomizers is much more expensive than 5 carts + 5 atomizers in a 2 piece PV.

After 3 days of constant use, all of my cartomizers are still working great and producing good vapor. That leads me to believe that the atomizers are holding up to abuse of constant use (and refilling/topping off), and better than there disposable nature implies.

/end my 2 cents.

  • Battery size vs appearance (we want to have a product that potential vapers wont be turned off to). less of a cigarette style and more of a pipe style to have room for 2 batteries so it can provide higher voltage than regular e-cigs.

  • Manual vs auto switch (again) Manual

  • I've been using a 510 in addition to my Nebula, and think it might prove to be a good platform as far as the atomizer and draw goes... What do you think? :) Answered in the first post. I would much prefer a 901 over a 510 atomizer because the 510's already get crazy hot under a regular 3.7v battery. Putting it under a higher load would make a 510 too hot.

  • We're looking into building everything, though atomizers MAY still be sourced elsewhere. If you find a place to get American made batteries please post it right away. Many people would appreciate it.

The one shortcoming of cartomizers is the inability to get them in VG based liquids and that shuts out a portion of the target audience.

Sounds great Ben. I look forward to your developments.
If its not too late, I would like to offer some thoughts.

-Ability to either accept common, cheaper, existing batteries. Or possibly designing a newer, much longer lasting battery. We need More mAh!!! US sourced would be great!!

-Voltage can remain 3.7 or possibly climb a bit. (The higher the voltage, the better vapor/hit; and also consumes much more liquid)

-Sealed atomizer connection. For devices' integrity, allowing ability to drip actually worry free.

-Reliable Manual Switch.

-Durable housing preferably made of some sort of metal.

-LED or possibly LCD for operational signs.

Im sure theres a ton I am forgetting! :) Good Luck. Keep us updated.

True, true. As a new user I completely neglected that part of the picture. Although, if these cartomizer style devices caught on, it would be more than likely we would start to see some pre-filled with VG liquid. But as it stands now, its virtually impossible, and I didn't even think about it. Kudos

I like the 801 style atomizer (the RIO specifically) cuz it holds more juice and I don't have to fiddle with it so much. Currently I am using my RIO atty with the stick. I like the stick because of it's size, form, battery life, and ease of use when the battery is low and I'm out and about I can just hook it up to the usb connection (work or car) and vape while it is charging, I don't have to worry about making sure all my batteries are charged at all times and I don't feel a need to carry a bunch of stuff just in case. I get a constant throat hit regardless if the batteries are freshly charged or is running low. If there is a better way to deliver the juice that would be great. Meantime adaptors for any atty size seems like the way to go.

I can honestly say that after reading this post, there seems to be absolutely no consensus... :D

My meeting got put off until tomorrow, so I'll be sure to report back then.

I like the 901 style, about the same size as analogs, in black, blue, or even red, but if you could used triple AAA lithium batteries or rechargebles that could be purchased would be great. Of course good atomizers that aren't always failing.. I think the led probably would not be missed and in fact would save on the battery that way. Reasonably priced. I got my DSE 801b for 42. and I thought that was about right. I think the manual switch sounds like it might be an energy saver too

You're not fooling anyone Ben! You know you wanted that car too! :D

Seriously though, good luck. Looking forward to seeing something come out of the chaos of non-cohesive suggestions.

I really like the two piece units. Perhaps because that is what I started on. What I'd like most is tons of vapor and flavor. The batteries on my Nebula's get me through most of the day so I'm not constantly having to recharge them. Maybe because I'm a girl/sissy, the throat hit isn't as important to me. At any rate my vote is for vapor & flavor.

Side note: another plus for me in the camp of two piece ecigs would be that nasty burning taste you get with the standard atomizer 3 part devices. In all honesty, if I had to taste that all the time I'd probably just quit altogether.

There are many obvious benifits to a combo atomizer/cart. I would rather someone invent a better cartomizer (Actual wick material or polyfil wrapped around a better shaped coil) because thats really the only thing that really matters.

As far as the battery goes; The cut off is good where it is, without it u would burn the wick material quickly, and i can heavely use a nebula battery for 5-7 hours before swpping out. the only improvement to it would be keep it the same size but last for 12 -24 hours. Batteries are evolving, so a better cartomizer is where its at.
