Coil Master 521 Tab Elite Ohm Meter

This is the one I use. Bought it at a B&M. It's a little pricey but I trust it. Has read builds accurately, stable enough to build/wick on.

Uses a 18650 for power.
That’s the one I use too. I especially like the ability to fire the coil as well as just test resistance. Very handy for tweaking the coil (raking to get rid of hot spots and etc). Well worth the $$ if you can find one.

A 521 tab works well both as an ohm meter and build surface. Whether the standard if still available or the Elite should be more than sufficient. Besides you'll be double checking it when you mount it on your mood and see if that confirms the resistance you already measured with the tab.

The 510 pin got funky in mine after 2 years of use , stopped reading resistance correctly , still fires and i still build in it because it is a great platform, just test on a little tester from before

Sorry to hear that.
If I get 2 years from it I'd still be happy though.

As for using a DNA device, that's all well and good if you have one, but buying a tab is a bit cheaper in most cases. :)

Yep, no argument there. I thought about buying a tab as it looks like a nice build station, but honestly with six DNA mods I really don't need another Ohms meter.

If I only had Mech mods I might buy a Tab. Then again I might put the money towards a DNA mod instead.

All good choices.

I did keep buying cheap $5-10 USD Ohms meters from Fasttech before I got my DNA mods, and they were the biggest waste of money. Few of them lasted more than a couple of months.

I've got something similar. It came in the DIY kit that I bought a while ago. It is powered by an 18650, will read resistance, will fire a coil, can be turned to an "off" position to be used as a build platform. The whole kit is around $40 so the unit itself should be pretty inexpensive.

This is the kit that I bought:

CoilMaster DIY Kit V3 with 521 Mini Tab

It was $36 when I bought it. Now it's $44 from the same vendor. That's unusual. Prices generally go down. But I did notice that the kit went out of stock a lot when it was under $40 at this site. The stuff that you get in the kit is definitely worth the $40 or so. The tools aren't of the highest quality. I did break my wire snips, but I did it by clamping down too hard on a deck instead of a wire, and my grip is considerably stronger than average. I'd still say that the stuff you get is worth the price.

I just use the Coilmaster mini tab that came with my kit, more as a stable building base although I do test fire and etc. I also check what my mod's reading. At my kind of resistances, that's pretty much all I need, and I do like having something simple that (I hope) won't die on me as I continue using it, although even if it does, I will build to fill on that platform rather than my (much pricier) DNA mod that is made of leather. I kind of shudder to think of the idea of building, testing, and assembling on top if it (if it were even any kind of stable base, which it isn't) given some of the things I have done along the way with coilbuilding... LOL.

I'm very happy with my cheap but so far indestructible Ohm's reader, and it's always nice to get a double-check when I finally put the darn tank on my mod. I find the kits useful for lots of things, although I will agree they aren't the most robust of tools at times, I do find certain things fairly useful....

I guess if you want to build down to 0.02 or something, maybe having something reliable would be useful but I'd think that for most folks, a very expensive Ohm's reader isn't necessary.... Although I guess there are some times it might be useful.

Thanks Anna, the one I have now (2012 model) uses AA batteries , and all it does is ohms. I found some new attys wont even screw in. Time for a upgrade.

@Iro-Oni , I don't own one, but I keep seeing good things about this ohm reader. If I ever resume using mech mods and building my own coils, I will get one of these:

Went to the site looking for one, they don't have it. Searched and all.
