What's my battery telling me?

Ok, before any snide remarks, I have to say I like my KR808D2's...there I said it.

Here's the problem, my battery, that is a month old is acting wonky. I have to prime puff, prime puff, prime puff, repeat, repeat, and then get two great puffs after I unscrew the carto and screw back on. WTH!!!!!!!!!! I have charged correctly, have not flooded the battery, and have cleaned the batt with rubbing alcohol.

What are your thoughts? Is the batt DOA?

I'm not entirely sure if you're having the same problem i had, but my first kit came with an automatic battery that seemed to need a primer puff or a really long hard draw to get it firing, i was not impressed. I figured there was something wrong with the sensor and really not knowing what i was doing decided to suck on it really hard, just the battery, no cart or atty attached, and create a sort of vaccum with my tongue. Anyway much to my suprise after doing this it now works great and barely needs any pressure at all before firing.

Hope that makes sense.

Hard to know. With my ego batteries, once they're dead they're dead. You can't mistake it.

Could it be your charger? From screwing cartos off and on sometimes it pushes the battery connection back a bit. You could get something small, like one of those tiny screwdrivers or even a large pin and pull the button out very gently. Maybe the battery isn't making a connection with the charger or with the carto.

It's worth a shot.

Some other things - I don't know how long your battery's safety cutoff is. Most batteries have a safety cutoff. After 5 or 8 or 10 seconds of dragging, the battery disables as a safety feature and flashes instead of working. Then after some period of timeout (can be 0 to 30 seconds after the flashing stops, the battery will refuse to work). Then it will work again. They especially have safety cutoffs on autos because wind or vibration can often set them off and people have been burned in their pocket etc. Better batteries usually allow longer drags allowed before the safety cutoff disables the battery. (Though Volts which are a new kind of KR808D-1 batteries have a short 5 second cutoff even on manuals, then no timeout after the flashing stops. The standard Kr808D-1 batteries can be dragged longer without a cutoff).

Re "flooding" as you call it. It does not have to be a flood to damage an auto battery. One drop of liquid in the threaded end hole can make the drag switch sticky, causing it to slowly stop or not stop after you start dragging, then that can make you hit the safety cutoff. larger amounts of juice can short it out or be moving around in the battery and intermittently cause shorts.

And re KR808D-2 - nothing wrong with its performance. The downside is incompatibility. When carto makers make cool new kinds of cartos like jumbo cartos and clear cartos, they always support 510 threading, often support KR808D-1 as their second threading, never support KR808D-2. Every for standard 1ml stuffing cartos, KR808D-1 has many different blank types to choose from. Also it may be impossible to get manual batteries in KR808D-2 threading. Most people here use and recommend manuals. (harder to damage with juice leaks, easier to get a good hit)
