what's the best alternative to the standard tank and atty for an ego-c?

hello all!

i've been vaping on an ego-c (type b, standard resistance, 1000 mah upgrade batteries, 100%vg) since august....and for the most part it has been a really enjoyable experience. i had a hard time at first getting the wick adjustment down, but i did and it worked great. now it's started leaking and i'm really not enjoying it at all. e-liquid does not taste good.

so i am ready for a change. i want to continue to use the ego batteries because they last me twenty four hours plus and i want to ditch the leaky tank and fiddly atty.

what have you tried?
what are you using now?
what should i stay away from?

i have read countless threads about clearomizers, dual coil tanks and cartomizers. there are so many choices out there and i have no idea where to start.

i know nothing is perfect. i just want to find something that will work consistently with as few headaches as possible.

thank you for taking the time to check out my post! i look forward to hearing from you!

First, drop your atty heads into some 150 proof vodka for about 30 minutes. If that doesn't do it, throw that coil head away and use a new one. Use a new tank. Prepunch the tank - you can use a ball point pen end - where the head of the ink cartridge comes out and on a block of wood - punch a hole in the tank cap... remove it first. Put it all back together making sure the atty head is seated well. You might even turn it so the two slots on the side are not aligned (at 90 degrees) from the air channels on the tank - flat areas of the tank. That will restrict flow some. Use standard resistance attys and put the upgrade batteries in 'regular mode' - white to blue rather than orange.

And buy a few of each of these:

Vision stardust (changeable coil type) in 2.0Ω to start. These do not leak but they can develop a harder draw - for me it's been the luck of the draw so to speak - some are great and some not so much because of draw and less vapor than the eGo-c attys. You could also get some 1.8Ω coils and if you have lighter flavors get a higher ohm coil.

510 Crystal Vision Replaceable Cartomizers
N300 iGo / EGO Crystal Visionand Nivi Nova Replaceable Wick Coils

Changeable Coil Carto's (also CE5's) These look more like the b type eGo atty whereas the stardust are more 'cone' A types. So the CC's hold a bit more ejuice. These in my experience have the best flavor and vapor than even the eGo-c's. The flavor on the stardusts can vary as does vapor. The CC's are consistent - however..... as with early clearomizers - the plastic body can crack. I've reported this to Heaven Gifts and Wayne there was going to mention it to the techs from the company that makes them. The first ones also had bad mouthpieces - it was reported as well and they changed the mouthpieces - so far the new mouthpieces work well. I hope they change the plastic too. The stardust bodies do not crack. Or I haven't had any of those crack so far - used extensively but because of flavor and vapor I prefer the CC's. So much so that I'd rather replace the cracked bodies and take the hit ;-) And it takes a while for them to crack too. Strong menthol, absinthe and likely cinnamon will cause them to go earlier than the tobacco flavors - as has been my experience. Both come in long and short wicks - I prefer the short wicks... although the long ones work well too.

Long Wick 5pc eGo 2.4ml CC (Coil Changeable) clear cartomizer / clearomizer - 510/eGo Cartomizer Heaven Gifts
5pc eGo 2.4ml CC (Coil Changable) clear cartomizer / clearomizer - 510/eGo Cartomizer Heaven Gifts
5pc Coil unit for CC (Coil Changable) clear cartomizer / clearomizer - 510/eGo Cartomizer Heaven Gifts

And both the stardust and the CC's are available at a variety of other vendors - I have a big discount at heaven gifts from 3 years of business there. :)

Other possibles are the EMDCC's big filtered cartos and the boge 2.0 are favorites but I'm done with filler cartos - I can always taste the filler and they all burn eventually.

hey kent c!

that is really working! thank you so much for sharing!

i have been checking out stardusts and ce5's for a bit. my concern is poor wicking and getting dry hits. have you had problems with that?

today i found CE3 Cartomizer - Elite Bottom Coil Cartomizer from altsmoke. these seem like a good idea too. what do you think?

you hit the nail on the head about filler cartos. yuk!

also, totally off topic i love your avatar and signature. my boyfriend and i read atlas shrugged last summer (and loved it) and we just started watching mad men (again, love it) on netflix.

Thanks for the comments on the avi and sig ;) I think Atlas II, the movie, is now showing. You'd like it if you haven't seen it already.

CE3.... I quit on those. CE4 (non-changeable) are good. In fact for the price, unless they fix the plastic cracking, you may be better with the CE4 if you can find the right ohms.

As far as the dry hits - I don't experience any on the CE5, but others have.. and the stardust can be a bit quirky. This explains some of it:

IOW, no 'perfect' set up on these yet. Right now the most problem free PV is the Vmod 2.0 bottom feeder using a Vapage bottom feeder hybrid atty. It's about a month old so no definitive conclusion yet, but so far so good.

you're welcome! we really liked the first movie and have been looking forward to seeing atlas II.

so the ce3 is not all it's cracked up to be? i'm a bit disappointed about that. it seemed like such a good idea.

the ce4 or the ce5 seems like the way to go. can you tell me a bit more about ohms? i have no idea what the right ohms would be for my ego.

ah, pbusardo! so much great info wrapped up in so much funny. he is a hoot!

and that Vmod 2.0 looks pretty awesome! having a pv i can just pick up and vape with no issues would be heaven!

In the electronics part of the ecig, wattage is the most important. It is what causes the heat to vaporize the ejuice. Ohm is the resistance of the coil in the atty. If you have a constant voltage, then you can determine the resultant wattage by changing the ohms/resistance. So using your eGo-c upgrade batt, in the white to blue mode - it's just like a regular eGo-c. Off the charger you are at about 3.4Volts and you'll maintain between 3.2-3.4 volts throughout the cycle of the charge dropping off at the end when the led is dark blue. You can get coils at 1.5, 1.8, 2.0, and 2.5 so your range is around 7.7 Watts at the lowest and 4.6 Watts with the 2.5Ω coil. With the batt in the 'orange mode' you'll have about 4.0 V off the charger and you'll vape mainly at 3.6-3.7V for most of the charge, again dropping off at the end (no change in led though in that mode). And with the same coils you'll range from about 9.1 Watts (w/1.5Ω) down to 5.5 Watts (w/2.5Ω).

To determine what coil you use will be dependent on your ejuice flavors mainly. Stronger flavors - coffee, tobacco, menthol, etc. are enhanced with more heat, and can have little or no taste at lower watts. Lighter flavors - berries, fruits, vanilla, etc. taste better at lower watts and can be washed out or burnt with high heat. Some flavors - RY4 and menthol just for example seem to do well in a wider range - although they may taste different. Some lighter tobaccos can do that too - take the heat or take the cooler vape - you'll just have to find that out for yourself. Buy a few CE5's and buy a set of each ohm coils.... and experiment - you'll find the sweet spot for the flavors you have. Sometimes even 1 or 1.5 Watts difference will make a difference in flavor. Or buy one CE4 in each resistance. That's cheaper. You probably already know if you have menthol - you won't be able to use that coil on anything else. Some of the cinnamon and hot cinnamon based ejuices - same thing. Cherry also sometimes tends to overwhelm for some reason.

I'm liking the Vmod 2.0 better every day... but again.... it's still early. People tend to fall in love with their latest purchase  Esp. if they stretched their budget for it. How fanboys and girls are made.

I just started vaping almost two weeks ago and kinda figured out what your saying here, but it's great to get some clarification. Thanks for this detailed info on the difference in atty resistance and flavor in comparison to the wattage!:toast:

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this explanation! Finally, now, I understand what ohms is all about! Finally!

I agree with Kent's first statement. Stardust/Vision Clearomizers are the way to go if you're having leak problems. It's all I use on my eGo-C and unless I manage to drip into that center hole, no liquid taste ever! :)

I really love them and to me, they are a worry-free vape. Just wash the one you're using all day in some hot water, let it dry the next day and swap em out. My atty's usually last a couple of months like this.
