Sometimes strong flavors/scents just need to be labeled and continue to use those carts/bottles for only that flavor. Menthol, cinnamon and a few others are impossible to get out of them (and your atty). I use Sharpie permanent markers for carts and tiny mylar star stickers that come in 7 different colors on a sheet to mark my attys and bottles that have those strong flavors in them and I just reuse them for only those flavors.
Carts are fairly inexpensive, so keep new ones around for new/strong flavors.
Generally, to clean I'll use Pure Grain Alcohol (PGA) for carts, bottles (and attys), usually putting them in very hot water first to rinse away as much as possible and then a quick soak with the PGA (be sure to blow out attys after cleaning and re-prime well).
While it will help, sometimes it just won't ever get the really strong stuff out of the bottles, so I gave up on plastic bottles. Now I use the small glass vials with glass droppers in 2 or 4 dram size.
They totally clean up with hot water and are reusable. I also love the way I can force liquid into an Ego
tank or cartridge with the dropper for fast non messy filling. I've dropped them on my tile floor from a standing height and only have had one ever break. I still mark them with stickers to identify flavors so I can refill them without error and mix two flavors (yuck!).
