I tried a trustfire 18650 on a full size provari and had mixed results. Sometimes it wouldnt fire. I think the high drain of the boost circuit was tripping the protection circuit on the battery. If i pulled it and put it back in then it would fire again for a while but eventually stop. So i stopped using it.

I would suggest you go with a high drain battery

Use only IMR or High-Drain batteries in the Provari.
Your just asking for trouble otherwise.
Standard batteries just can't supply enough amperage to the boost circuitry.
They will over heat and give you sporadic service at least.

IMO - for 18350s stick with the AW IMRs, the money you save with TrustFires ain't worth it.
AWs will just give you longer service and are safer batteries,
Peace of mind is worth something.
The Difference - Better Quality Control

Needless to say that trustfire batteries are poor quality, and if you try to use them im guesssing that the batteries protection circuit kicks in.. But im using AW ICR 18500 Li-ion batteries all the time with my mini (with extension). Those ICR batteries can put out 3A of current, which is good enough to fire 3ohm boges with 5 volts, and that draws 2.25A from the battery.. So basically you can use non IMR batteries if they can put out enough amps :)

Reason why im using the ICR batteries is that they hold much more power. Which means more vape time :)

18500 AW IMR is 1100mAh
18500 AW ICR is 1500mAh

The battery may be getting quite hot also.

I dont see no reason why not to use lithium batteries, IF you know they can put out enough amps for your needs. I know what kind current i need for my boge cartos, but i also know that im not able to use dual coils with the icr batteries.. But of course if you dont know the batteries amp limit, and what kind of current you are drawing, its better to use IMR.

I love high capacity batteries, thats why I only use 18650s
Right now, AW IMR 2000mAh and Panasonic high-drain 2250mAh

By using the 18500s in a Provari, what are you saving, maybe 1/2 inch in length
Whatever it is, I'll take the 18650 any time

I also never have to wonder whether my batteries can handle the heat

Trustfires and Ultrafires cannot handle the current draw due to their protection circuit design and the Provari's boost circuit (which I only know a small amount about). Upon an overdraw, either the battery itself or the Provari may cut off with usage, as both are designed to do so as built-in safety features. If you vape at higher wattages then this will probably happen more frequently. From what I have read, the actual power of the Trustfire is closer to around 700-800mah-ish. With a heavy load like the Provari, the LiMn cells of the AW IMR should give a similar run time to the LiCo batteries in question. Additionally, the IMR will likely give an extended service life as the IMR is better made for the task that the battery will perform with the Provari. The physical dimensions of the Trustfire may also be slightly different than the AW IMR, the latter in which the Provari is specifically designed to use. Panasonic IMR cells also seem to be golden, but as of now it seems only 18650s are available.

Trustfire "1200" besides being at least 2mm longer is under 600mah actual. I'm getting the same ml using two of those in a vv mod as i'm getting out of my "880" crappy 16340, wich i know they are ~550mah real capacity.
Best capacity 18350 is the 900mah grey battery, the pipe / screwdriver whatever you want to call it. Getting 5.5-6ml out of those in the RSM 5.1 as opposed to 3-3.5ml with the TF18350 "1200" ones.
For single cell mod stick with the AW 18350 high drain, you really need the amps and only a good high drain can provide them safelu.

batteries are cheap enough , I wouldnt recomend using a trustfire. Go with a quality battery like AW . Trustfires have been proven to have the mah on there labels grossly overrated .You will get more battery life from a AW any day. You need a IMR battery for the Provari anyway.

Batteries are not the area you wanna cheap out in. On another forum we have the saying about trustfires . You can trust it will go on fire or Only thing you can trust is theres going to be a UltraFire lol
