For me it was pretty simple. I started at 12 on a MTL device. Within 2 weeks I dropped to 6. After another week I dropped to 4.5, as I was buying from b&m at the time and they would make any strength. At 6, I still had a cig in the AM with coffee. The day after I dropped to 4.5, I had 5 cigs. Same on next day. Third day I went back to 6mg. Went back to one cig with coffee. I don't even think I need the 1 cig, but something in my head still tells me to have a cig with coffee. Part of the prob is my wife is still dual using, so those darn analogs are always sitting on the table! At any rate, if you are doing ok at a level, just get a small bottle of lower nic and see what happens. I'm pretty sure your body and brain will let you know.

Iv'e been at 12mg (~7-8 watts) for 7 years now, and I have no intention on lowering it.

A base line for nicotine content is based on wattage.
High nicotine at low wattage & low nicotine at high wattage end up being the same amount of nicotine at the end of the day.
The low wattage user got the nicotine needed from 3-4ml of liquid instead of 10-15ml is all.

I'm thinking I may lower my nic content soon, at least in some of my tanks. I've been getting more headaches, and I'm thinking I may need less nic. (Admittedly, I made some McGuyver DIY juice that I really like, but I'm kind of thinking I may need to dilute it with some VG, just for safety's sake... I think my nic may be a tad higher than I set out to make.)

Also, depending on what tank/setup you use, nic levels are going to differ. I got a slightly airier MTL device that is "technically" sub0hm, though it's still MTL, but it provides quite a bit of vapor. The more "vape" being provided to you, the less "nic" you need per puff, so if someone is using 0.15 resistance coils and vaping them at 60 or 70 watts (or more) they will be going through far more e-liquid per puff, and per day, than a MTL vaper who may be using much higher nic, but going through less liquid. So, being sure you have found a stable vape for yourself matters first, and I'd think it would be wise when cutting nicotine to JUST use that device as you taper, so you can kind of "monitor" if you are going through more juice at a lower nic level-- which can be a sign to bump it back up, if you are chain-vaping to compensate. That happens to some folks, not others.

You CAN go as rapidly or as slowly as you want with this: the baseline indicator that you are going too fast is if you are chain-vaping and/or craving cigarettes more. I don't believe I would've wanted to lower my nic at 2 weeks in, though there are folks that have done that.... I'm not one of them.

I started out @24 mg almost 6 years ago but went down to 18 after about a month or so. That was back when 1.8Ω coils were considered very low. My body told me when it was time to lower my nic. At one point I was down to 6 mg but was going through too much e-liquid so upped it back to 12 and that is where I am today. I can see no reason whatsoever to go any lower until/unless my body tells me I need to.

I vape 12mg with a 1.8Ω coil at 6-7 watts and go through approximately 3 mls a day. Nicotine is NOT the big bad ingredient in cigarettes and studies are now being done that show that it does have some health benefits, so nicotine, without the 1000's of other chemicals along with the tar caused by combustion, may prove to be good for us.

If you are wanting to work your way down to zero and then quit everything just listen to your body. It should let you know when it is time to take the next step down.

I think it varies by person and style of vaping. My last go-around with vaping kept me 100% cig free for 2 years and, in that time, I went from 18 to 12mg using low wattage, mtl devices. The nic level had nothing to do with me quiting vaping - I just kind of got annoyed with it and, stupidly, started smoking again.

This time I've been 100% cig free for around 2 months using both 12mg in a low wattage, MTL device and 6mg in sub-ohm tanks. I'm definitely ready to lower my sub-ohm nic to 3mg because I'm getting over-nic'd. With the high wattage devices I find I can use really low nic - I even used some 1.5mg . .but I just go through more juice. With 1.5mg is was nuts . .if I used that all the time I'd be going through 25+ mls a day, lol.

With my MTL devices I'm happy with 12mg and don't see me reducing it for a while. Personally, I wouldn't worry about lowering the nic after 6 weeks off smoking unless you feel like you're getting too much nicotine. You're already reaping the benefits of not smoking. You will probably find that you lower your nic level naturally after some time.

Been vaping 6mg for a few weeks now.

    successfully abandoned ciggerettes.

So, how do i know when its time to switch to a lower nic level?

When you leave the house without your vape and don't miss it at all... repeatedly.

Then your ready to step down your nicotine intake little by little..

Give yourself time, there is no rush. Rush it too much and you will find yourself craving cigarettes again.

The leaving the house repeatedly while forgetting my vape and not missing it took me a year, but every one is different.

Man, I can't imagine doing that anytime soon. Of course, I can now sit through far longer stretches of boring gatherings or meetings indoors where I don't feel the need to exit for a vap-, I mean, bathroom break, so that already tells me I'm waaayyy less dependent on my vape than I was.

I'll never forget the morning I woke up early and had somehow lost my vape in bed (I don't normally vape in bed, but this was early on....) and didn't want to wake the husband. I could easily have smoked, there's cigarette material all around me at all times, but I just waited until it got light enough that I could see, (a couple hours) and found it... without smoking! That sort of told me that vaping was a) going to work for me and b) take away that awful, edgy craaaving that seemed undeniable that I had with analogues. Seriously, flying was always an exercise in "If I have to change planes, I'm going to make sure I can get OUT and BACK IN to security regardless..." (I almost missed a few planes that way) and I am a WAY less cranky shopper, as I can tolerate doing things more slowly than I could otherwise....

It really took some time for it to sink in how much cigarette smoking had changed me for the worse, and I'm not just taking physically. So, I can possibly foresee a day when I leave the house without my setup and figure it out halfway through and then just not worry about it, I truthfully can.

That's a great standard, Opinionated, in my view. If I no longer "need" my vape a few times, I'm sure I can lower my nic, but I will say getting nic OD is always a great way to find out vape needs to be lowered as well, but it's usually up front, when someone is chainvaping through quit symptoms, or just plain started out too high.... :)

I chain vaped hardcore through quit symptoms, but in time that stopped naturally.. once I got through the withdrawals from the other aspects of cigarettes..

Everyone is different, but for many these changes are simply natural progressions with time..

I started on 12mg at 7watts. Stopped smoking the same day, but had lapse when drinking.

Moved to 12mg between 25 to 35 watts, and never wanted a cig again.

After a year and a half I dropped to 10mg at 35 watts.

Six months later and I'm on 8mg on a TC device that is equivalent to about 40 watts.

I'm planning to drop down to 6mg over the next three or four months.

Critically for me I've managed to keep my consumption to about 4ml per day. I really didn't want to increase the ml as I lowered the mg.

6mg is my goal for now. If I stop there for 6 months or a couple of years it's fine by me. Spent 25 years smoking without making any progress, so the last 2.5 years have been great.

Simple answer is :whenever you feel like you're ready or want to.
I started on 15mg and after only 1 month i was already doing sub 0hm at 6mg, tried 3 but i was going through twice as much liquid in a day so i went back to 6mg. I'm in no hurry to stop vaping though and i quite like having nicotine in my juice so idk maybe i'll stick with 6mg until i completely quit who knows, but atm i'm very satisfied with my nicotine levels.

NB: doing sub 0hm doubles you're nicotine intake (or so i've heard) so intead of doing 6mg i'm actually doing 12mg lolz.
