I tried searching for this answer within this Halo forum and I apologize if it has already been answered. This is my first Halo Triton. I got the VV Triton and think it works great. I am currently using the larger Triton tank and while looking at the wicks floating in the liquid today I wondered how long before I need to change them out. Can somebody who has experience with this please advice?

Many thanks!

The coil head unscrews. There's 2 wicks, the top "flavor" wick and the coil wick (it goes through the coil). Replacement heads are available from Halo.

But to your question? It depends how much you vape and what you are vaping. I can get 5 to 8 refills or more on Prime or Torque. However, Belgian Cocoa and Voodoo are dark and known coil gunkers, so I rinse after 1 or 2 tanks.

Not all of the compounds in a juice get vaporized. (like leftover salts and minerals if you boil tap water down to dry)

When the juice you are adding is lighter and clearer than the dregs in the tank, it's time to clean. Or when it just doesn't vape very well, it leaks down the center tube, time to clean.

And to your next question? It also depends. I have a few coils going strong after 4 months, I have others that lasted 2 weeks.

And welcome scscheib!

You are now a Halon!!!!

Thanks for the reply DaveOno. I am using only Tribeca so far in the large triton tank. Can you clarify please: what are dregs? Is Tribeca considered a light liquid? I am currently on my second fill and as expected I am not experiencing any difficulties. It is actually vaping very well, I am starting to wonder if I am going to regret ordering the Provari when I get it, lol. Also, so when I do need to change, what all gets replaced? You mentioned replacement heads. Does that include the top "flavor" wick as you stated, which is a great identifier for that wick, and the coil wick (which I have yet to see). Again, I appreciate all of your help here. This site is an invaluable tool for vaping correctly. I am still trying to figure the tank set up for the Provari I ordered, lol. This is like a hobby that takes a surprising amount of knowledge and know how. Thanks again!

When you take off the tip of the Triton tank, in the center sticking out above the main body of the tank is what is called the head or coil assembly. You can unscrew that and remove it and clean it. Some juices you can get by with just rinsing it out in water and letting it dry. Others will require a soak to dejunk it. Some of us use water to soak, others use cheep vodka or PGA, and some use unflavored denture cleaning tablets. It depends on the juice and how discolored the assembly is. You should remove the silicon "condom" at the top when cleaning and replace it before reinserting in the tank. I have had my Triton for a little over 2 months and have yet to kill a coil. Halo also sells replacement coils @ $12.50 for 5. Worthwhile investment. If I don't have any dry clean ones I will put in a new one while waiting for the ones I just cleaned to dry out.

Welcome fellow Halon! :vapor:

Ah ok. So the thing is to clean it as needed and when I notice flavor or hit differences etc. it is probably time to change the coil assembly. Does that sound right? I am starting to understand these things I think, lol. I suppose its good that I am learning it all at once because I have ordered a 501 style Provari so I have had to delve into that world which is a much bigger world as I'm sure you know than the 808 I think it is for the Triton Halo. Thanks for the help. Im a sponge so if you having thing else to had please do.

Dregs - the remnants of a liquid left in a container, together with any sediment or grounds.

As you vape, some juices like Tiki or VooDoo, the remnants get darker and darker as the stuff that doesn't go up in the vape remains and gets more concentrated. It also gathers at the coil and might discolor from the heat.

Somewhere is good pics of the head. Ha, a poor pic on Halo's site. We call it the head, or head assembly, or coil head.

You don't have to wait till you get your provari to regret it. You can start now. :D

Lol very nice, touché! I won't regret it. I like buying different varieties of these things I am finding out so I definitely won't regret it. I just will have two systems to play with, lol. Oh, and if one breaks, I am not left hangin. I also have the G6 kit, so I'm def good to go. I was actually jonesin for an analog bad today. Im on my third day and that was the first real craving I had. So I just picked up my Triton, problem solved.
Thanks again DavoOno.

(I shouldn't dis the provari, it is a high quality instrument. And these posts will look very silly in 4 months when I buy one...lol)

Back ups are the key! Even the little USB charger thingy. If it got lost...

Remember, the vape takes longer for the nic to hit. Cigs are 10 seconds, but vape is 90 sec to 2 minutes. Just give it a bit of time. Smile while watching the cloud and remember how smart you are now.

And get one sample bottle of your favorite juice in the next higher strength, just for those times (laid off, death in the family, Mothers-in-law) Someone called it ICOEBG.
(in case of emergency break glass).

And you now need a footer banner to measure your success. Find one you like, click on it, and fill in the data, copy/paste the code into your profile, and you'll be truly one of us.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I can share some experience on when to replace a coil. Eventually, you'll stop getting the natural flavor of the liquid you're vaping and you'll get a taste that I can only describe as "unpleasant". In my case, it takes on a metallic, burnt taste. Once this happens, suffer through whatever is left in your tank and try to clean it.

There are many threads describing how to clean the Triton tank on these forums, so I won't waste time repeating it. Just use hot water if you don't have anything else handy, and let everything dry overnight. Next is where you roll the dice. If the coil and wicks are still good, you can reassemble the head, place it back in the tank and fill 'er up. If it tastes good again, you're in great shape. Sadly, sometimes it will be just as bad.

At that point, the wicks are probably burnt beyond repair, and you have two options: replace the wicks, or replace the entire head. Since I'm not a geek about wicks, and new heads are cheap, I'd just pop a new coil head in the tank and call it a day. At 5 for $12.50, it's really the best use of my time. Heck, if the coils were any cheaper, I wouldn't even bother cleaning them.

I'd echo Dave's statements on how long they last. It's a crap shoot. I did just literally have one last less than two weeks before going south. But that is the exception, not the rule.

Finally, as mentioned earlier, keep spares on hand. I've got 3 working tanks (two more on order), and about 10 coils sitting here, at any given time. That's just good sense. If it tastes nasty, you're going to be more tempted to go back to the analogs. So keep these cheap parts laying around so you never have to have a bad day in the vaping world.
