depending on what you are using you will know how long to expect after a short while of using them. The flavor will become muted, vapor production will also die down. for tanks that you can see into you may also notice that wicks are getting darker with clearer liquids.

both my wife and I usually put new coils in once a month. she uses a vivi nova and mostly menthol, so she doesn't get build up on the coils fast. I however like the sweet stuff, so i replace my rda/rba wicks every 2-3 days and dry burn my coil at the same time.

i generally replace the cotton wick every 2 weeks depending on how much i use it.

2 weeks on a cotton wick! WOW... I'm changing mine every two DAYS! Either I'm doing something wrong, or this Boba's and Gorilla Juice really gunks up the wick faster than other juices... If I go beyond a few days, it tastes like vaping ......

What are you using? I have Protanks mainly but use the coils in my other clearos, too. If it tastes burnt, yep, time to change it. If the flavor isn't anything like I'm used to, I either rinse them off or swap it out. If I'm not in a hurry, I'll do a dry burn and change only the wick or rebuild one.

If you're using a replaceable coil head, don't throw them away when you change them. You never know, you might want to build one eventually.

When I first started vaping I was using EVODs and Protanks. I bought 13 replacement coils with the first setup. Within the first week I was vaping I was already reading about rebuilding. Then I ordered some kanthal. Rest is history.

But I will say. Before the kanthal arrived, there was a coil I was using in my PT2 for at least 2 weeks. Then I decided to change it, thinking that I didn't really need to... When I changed it..... Holy s+% $! It was like a vapor/flavor explosion in my mouth.

Now I just make my own and rewick between flavors.

I would say if your weary about building coils.... The next step from stock would be to buy some cotton. Replace the silica with cotton on a brand new coil. Cause once a coil gets gunked up, getting the silica out of it can distort the coil. So, make your own wick out of cotton.... and for me the cotton comes out of the coil a lot easier than the silica.

For Boba's/GJ....that sounds about right.....100% VG, IIRC, and thick/sweet....it'll gunk a coil and wick rather quickly!!
I replace my cotton wicks about every 3 days and dry-burn at the same time...I drip Boba's in an IGO-L (1.6 ohm micro coil, cotton wick/cloud)...
Happy (vaping) Trails!
