When to replace IClear 30 heads?

I got two IClear 30s about a month ago or so. I've been cleaning each one about every 3-4 fills and they have been working wonderfully. Knowing that heads don't last forever, I purchased some extras to replace when these current ones go out. The last week, I have been noticing that the coils have been gunking up a lot more than usual. I only got about 2 fills before needing to clean it. Does this mean it's time to toss this head?

What's a good rule of thumb for choosing when to replace the coil heads?

I do use 100% VG, but usually the liquids are very near clear.

Thanks!

I go with "When the taste goes off and dry burning/cleaning them no longer helps" as my indicator of a coil change.

How often they gunk up is probably a function of the juice you are using. For example running my DIY Mint Candy I can go weeks without a dryburn/clean. With my DIY banana cream pie I can go 1 day tops.

That makes sense. My main liquids are a blueberry/pomegranate and wild berry, both DIY. The wild berry is straight clear and gives little gunking, where the blue/pom is a bit darker and requires more attention. When I do my coffee based flavors, I can't go a day.

So this leads to another question. Is it counter productive to clean/dry burn when unnecessary?
