This is just how YiHi handles warranty stateside, as it's a lot faster and easier than shipping something back to china and waiting for a new one to arrive. They've got a long history of taking care of their SX350 chip customers (it's a VERY popular modder's chip), and it works the same way. You have a problem during the warranty period, you contact YiHi. They tell you to return it to your vendor, and they tell the vendor they've authorized it. Vendor sends you a new one, YiHi takes care of the vendor. Check out the Varitube SX350 thread in the vendor section to see how it's worked over time. The thread started in May and it's still going strong 172 pages later.

I understand that the warranty is handled by the vendors, but the issue I was concerned about is the availability of replacements in a year. My understanding is that the SXMini has been touted by Yihi as a "Limited Edition" and if that is the case, there is no guarantee that replacement units will be available at the end of the 1 year warranty.

Understood. I keep seeing that limited edition thing posted here or in other places, but I haven't seen anything official from YiHi about it. I just kinda assumed that some shady B&M was trying to sell one and told a customer it was a limited edition when it wasn't and the rumor spread from there. I've certainly been wrong about these things before, though, so if anyone has seen something that confirms a limited release, I'd love to hear it.

I'd like to see that also...I've looked on Yihi's website but I can't even find mention of the SXMini APV on there. :)

There it is, second question on their FAQ:

Q: When the goods will be ready if I order now ?
A: This device is limited edition. Goods will be ready end of Nov. Customers are keep ordering and paying. We will arrange to ship the goods according to the payment list and sorry to keep you waiting.

That said, it seems to be selling well. If it does better than they expected, they'll probably keep it around for a while.

It's also possible that there's a translation issue and they mean something closer to "custom built" than "limited edition." As I understand it, they were initially making them by hand and planning to move to a more automated process when they got it set up. It seems like they're saying "you're going to have to wait a little while because it takes a little while to build them," not "we're only making a few of these."

Vendor handled warranty doesn't work for the secondary market (ECF classified, eBay, etc) where there is no official vendor. I doubt it would really affect resale value of these mods but may be worth considering for anyone where long term support is important. One of the things I like about Vaporshark is they provide warranty service directly in the US and also repair and upgrade services after that.
