You can't go wrong with a provari. The Russian, from what I've read, is a real device. It was put out by someone who was involved with the design of the kayfun. The difference was the adjustable airflow, which svoe mesto copied on their latest generation of kayfuns.

This is an urban legend that has no basis in fact. The Russian and the Russian 91% is a clone of the Kayfun 3.1ES and the Kayfun Lite respectively.

The Russian 91% did add adjustable airflow to the Kayfun Lite design to distinguish it from a 1 to 1 copy.

From everything I can tell, someone is genius over at the manufacturing plant that is responsible for the Russin.

First of all, they concoct a story about how the Russian is really the "co-design" of a fellow employee who wanted simply to move manufacturing to China to allow for more volume to be made.

Then unlike other clones, they charge nearly the same price as an authentic Kayfun.

So now instead of a "cheap" knockoff, they offer westerners an "expensive" knock off.

There is no doubt that the Russian itself is a quality manufactured product. But in creating an urban myth on it's origins, and charging nearly the same price as an original, they have been able to sell to gullible purchasers who would NEVER think of buying a "cheap clone" because it goes against their spirit of what is "right".

I guess I'm not laden with such feelings. I buy the HCigar Kayfun 3.1ES clone for several reasons.

1. The original Kayfun 3.1 ES is no longer available. I can't buy one if I wanted to. I prefer the design of the 3.1ES because it has not only adjustable flow control, but a drip container to hold fluid that leaks out and an adjustable 510 screw.
2. The HCigar is 1/4th the price of the original Kayfun
3. The HCigar has gotten good reviews from other vapers based on it's build quality and performance.
4. A lot of Authentic Kayfun Lite Plus components are compatible. I picked up the 2 authentic Lite+ oring kit from vaprevolution (vaprev.com). Not only do all the applicable orings fit, but the actual deck screws as well. This tells me the HCigar version is pretty dang close.
5. Real Kayfun Lite Pluses are hard to come by and I do not particularly prefer the design of the Kayfun Lite Plus.
6. If I am going to buy a clone, I'll buy one that costs less than the original, not more.

Its been quoted here many times that on Svoemesto FB page, one of the partners is a Russian. There fore a design that he/she co-owns was updated into the Russian and taken to a different manufacturing location. Where doesn't matter, to us, all we got was a quality product proven by its sales demand and reviews.
Russians don't need a lower drip well, when set up properly, they never leak.
The 91% and Big have a more adjustable 510 pin.
The 91% and Big have a better performing adjustable air draw.
People have been drilling out Kayfuns and its clones so often, there how to YouTube vids. Never heard of that required by a Russian owner. With a 91%, you don't have to dismount the whole RTA to get at the air adjustment set screw.
The authentic Russsians are always priced less than authentic Kayfuns.

The Russian 91% has a better deck than the Kayfuns and its clones.
I only make that statement, because I run 4 of them. I've tried the Tobeco, HCigar, Ehpro and even some Black model off eBay. I just use the clone topends, tanks and chimneys, because they all pretty much interchange, but their decks sits in boxes, they don't cut it...I guess I could grab a carbide bit and drill them out....lol

Lol. Didn't mean to start the clone vs. authentic debate...I would like to see something authoritative on the issue (which story is true doesn't really matter to me) rather than speculative posts that are all over these forums.

My bottom line is that I like my Russian, the adjustable airflow is what sold me on it vs. the Kayfun. My "to buy" list includes the KFL+ btw...
