I was dying for an ipad, then I came to my senses. I want a tablet netbook like a Lenovo s10-3t.
I have been messing with linux, so I really want to try and stick with stuff I can put that on once I figure out how I can get all the programs I need to work on it.

have you looked at debian based ubuntu? it is quite user friendly in comparison to some distros...

I have tried Suse , Mandriva and Ubuntu, I think there is one other distro I tried but not sure any more. Ubuntu is my favorite with the newer Mandriva a close second but I can never really get past wireless networking. With Mandriva I never got my wireless card to work. With Suse I don't remember the issue but am sure it had to do with wireless. I had Ubuntu 9.4 installed and when I started messing with it I liked it. I was finally going to start messing with wine or some other virtual box thing in my spare time. I let ubuntu install the next update, 9.10 I think and poof no wireless networking any more. Unless I want to connect to a neighbor. It shows all of my neighbors networks but not mine and I don't have it hidden. I currently have it wired to my router but spend too much time here and messing with my pv's now to actually do anything with it. I haven't booted with it in a while. I know other people had the same issues as me and I don't want to go through all the crap to fix it. I did try one or two fixes I found online and none worked so I gave up. Hopefully they will fix the networking thing in the next update.

There is a good way of getting past the wireless problems and that is with a wireless bridge! The useful little gizmo turns wireless networks back into wired!! It gets programmed with the wireless settings and picks them up and provides ethernet ports!! That way the computer never needs to worry about wireless!

I use my old Linksys WRT54g cable router as it can be modified to work as a wireless bridge :)

Run your package update manager and make sure everything is current. It should also allow you to do an automatic upgrade from 9.1 to 10.4. Also make sure you have activated any drivers in your proprietary drivers.....

Yep my previous post had a typo. It was when I auto updated from 9.04 to 10.4 that I lost my wireless. I went and looked after you said that thinking there may be new updates but no same old stuff and I figured out my typo. Maybe the next update will fix it. Funny thing is that I can use 2 other laptops with 10.4 no problem on my network. I have also tried another wireless card to see if it was my card , neither one will work on this box.

The thing that makes me laugh is that I run Windows 7 Premium plus java, and can watch video and flv and do everything else (inc. Photoshop) on my 5yo Samsung Q1. But you can't do it on a shiny new 2010 iPad? That is the definition of lame.
There are tablet PCs that are so much better than this thing. OK, they don't have an apple logo on them, but so what?

So funny that ppl rave over this thing...

I mean, HP invented a better one over 5 years ago... lol

That's the thing, though. HP didn't invent a better one. They produced a laptop without a keyboard that makes you use Windows via touch. Windows (or any desktop OS for that matter) is not designed to be used with fingers. Apple on the other hand spent over a decade developing and refining a touch specific interface and API, training people on how to run it (thanks to the iPhone) and then produced the first, truly purpose built touch centric tablet. Big difference.

I had two of them and both had the low wireless connection and wifi dropping issue.

Really hated to return them because I really do like the device. For the three weeks i had it i did not touch my notebook once. Love the touch screen.

But, i am not going to pay $600 for a device that cannot maintain a solid wifi connection when every other device in the same location can (two iphones, a mac book air and a window PC).

I also did not like that it did not have any ability to print from it.

I didnt say I liked the hp version... I hated them both. A bad Idea, reinvented to be brought to ppl that already spend too much on things they dont need.

Ill admit the ipad looks nice, and theres a few uses I could think of for it... but I couldn't bring myself to purchase one, theres no use for the amount it costs.

And it feels awkward, the on-screen keyboard for something that size is just plain ridiculous.

Give it a optional keyboard, more hd space, a stand, and a mouse, and drop it down to about $400, and id buy it.

Still looking at tablet netbooks here. Can't decide on the lenovo or the asus models. Basically my choice is down to resistive or not screen. I do want to take notes and write and the resistive screen would definitely work better and the asus comes with a pen built in and I am not much for pinching my iphone screen anyway LOL. The Lenovo has a capacitive? screen , the pinching one, multi touch what ever you call it.

I almost got an ipad from hubby for Mom's day but I told him no thanks. I really would like a netbook tablet better for what I want to do with it. Vape with my pt LOL JK not really but I do want a usb port and ipad just doesnt cut it .
