Same here. I can smell my wife from 10 feet away after she come in for a smoke. No longer appealing to me at all. Smoking, not my wife.:D
Same with my hubby but since I have had him for 35 years I think I have learned to overlook the small stuff and will keep him :D

I took six weeks to transition from smoking to vaping. I had mild craving for some months after that. These days the thought only comes up when coworkers are smoking nearby and I get a wiff. I tease them sometimes by saying it was selfish of me to stop smoking. I should smoke but only smoke their cigarettes to help them because every one I smoke is one they don't smoke, but I've never actually bumed a cig that way. A couple of times since switching I smoked a cigarette to demonstrate to my brother, who now vapes, that I didn't merely quit, I'm cured. "Quitting" means a lifelong vulnerability to relapse (one of mine happened after 10 years). vaping is a cure because it protects against that.

I'll be one year cigarette free in a few days. I went for over a year having a cigarette or two a day while vaping the rest of the time. While I underwent radiation treatment for prostate cancer I went back to smoking full time. When I finished treatment I went to back to vaping, no cigarettes at all. Since after about the second week I've had no cravings for tobacco at all. Having the occasional cigarette just prolongs the agony and delays the joy, at least that's how it seemed to work for me.

Quit instantly, but it took me about a month to get past the Cravings.

Took a major stress incident to get my head straight. (a story for another time, but one I Punched a wall) I was so mad I wanted nothing but a Cigarette................for about 1/2 a minute.
Instead, I thought, Hell No, not after all this work. I Grabbed my(at the time) Little EGO/CE5 and puffed like crazy...............Yep, Nicotine Boost took the edge off.

That was late 2012 and I have not had the desire since.

The Body wants the Nic hit. The Nose tells it where there is ready availability. The Brain is nothing but trouble.:glare:

Rewire desire.

Same here. Married for over 20 years and I smoked since we met. She only started smoking a few years ago at 40-ish. Not a smart age to start, but I can't be a hypocrite as I stunk like cigarettes for the 23 years we have been together.

I do like a cigarette smell but lost my cigarettes craving about 4 years ago.
I hate the smell of cigarettes but love the smell of cigars even though I smoked cigs for over 30 years. To each their own.:)

I don't miss the cigarettes, but I still have multiple humidors full of great Cuban cigars. Luckily I don't inhale those as I have no plans to quit smoking cigars unless it increases my cigarette urges. It has been a couple of months since I have had a cigar, and I plan to avoid them until spring just to be safe.

without reading through this thread, my GUESS is that anyone reporting that they still continue to crave cigarettes, are those whom continue to sneak cigarettes. IE: Those whom ask for a cigarette when out at parties or get-together where friends are smoking around you. & those of you whom keep a pack around & still "have-to" have those 1-2 or 3-4 or 4-5 cigarettes a day, because 'i just couldn't switch to vaping fully, without having X-Y cigarettes, or around that many, each day" Yep. I didn't even read the thread yet, and I am going to take a whack at it & guess that THOSE are the people whom still "crave" ciggys. why? because those whom still crave them A. Haven't distanced themselves from cigarettes for a long enough period of time to forget what they taste/feel like B. haven't stopped smoking X-Y/day long-enough to realize that vaping tastes better, can potentially produce a better/cleaner nicotine buzz, and is an all-around better nicotine delivery system as compared to the traditional tobacco cigarette. C. haven't quit bumming-them/smoking them long enough to try one & realize that they now taste completely gross. (if you quit COMPLETELY for 2-3 months or longer, & then try one cigarette, you will quickly realize that they now taste like what they are: burnt leaves and burnt paper. Idk what percentage of you nice folks experimented with mushrooms in highschool and college, but after having vaped for 2+ or 3+ months-time, a cigarette will taste like a cigarette tastes-like on that particular substance- You'll feel like an animal caught in a wild-fire... Afraid, overwhelmed with smoke, not-knowing what to do or how to deal with the radical smells and tastes of natural burning leaf matter in your mouth, radiating down your throat... You'll feel violated by smoke and fire, & you'll never want to smoke another cigarette again. ;) So that is MY guess... Idk, but this thread could-be full of you. Those of you whom haven't totally & completely stopped smoking them yet- THAT is who still craves them.

My advice? Just STOP! Just stop smoking them... Like I said above, they taste disgusting once you've solely vaped for 1, 2, or 3+ month's time. They taste & smell awful after that. The people whom smoke them smell absolutely foul once you've completely quit. Even your ROOM (if you smoked there) will begin to smell completely foul to you once you've totally stopped (you'll even begin to smell the gross sheets on your bed, the tar on your walls and possessions, the tobacco water in the nasty solo-cups full of water & cigarette butts on your porch will STINK like you'd never imagine. After you've completely quit for longer than 1/2/3+ mo. you'll begin to notice your clothes stink. You'll begin to wonder why the hell you craved those things in the 1st place, because you realize now that craving your favorite gummy-bear e-liquid sounds & tastes much better than those tongue-abrasive cancer-sticks... You'll realize that the only reason you craved them, was because you held onto them - You kept smoking one every once in a while, and that made them black-market, that made them forbidden... That's the ONLY reason you craved them, and now that it's been 1/2/3+ mo. you can't understand WHY you ever smoked them for so long in the 1st-place... Sure, F the W/D symptoms, but you could-of been chewing gum.. You could-of been vaping snickerdoodle cookie, toasted cinnamon bun, fruit-loops & milk, toasted-almond cake, or strawberry custard...

So my advice to all of you whom "still crave cigarettes" is to stop smoking them, k? OK then. ;)
& enjoy the vape journey, after that!

Well, thanks a lot! Not at all.......until I read this thread!

But seriously, I have never had the urge, but maybe a rare "I wonder how it would taste" thought. But the memories of all the previous and difficult failed attempts are well enough embedded that I won't take any chances with temptation. It also helps with all the strict smoking bans here that I can't remember the last time I was even near smoking other then seeing the occasional smoker shivering beside their vehicle before or after entering an establishment.......and then I just smile and take a :vapor:.

I may have a passing thought of a cigarette from time to time, but then I have a vape, and I forget all about it. Crave? Nosirree. WTA took care of that, and still does, though I'm down to .7%.

If cravings had continued, I'd never have stopped smoking, because I simply won't put up with it.

Wouldn't the fact that we vape actually prove that we still crave cigarettes, at least the hand to mouth, visible vapor and nicotine parts of it? To me, those were the parts that kept me hooked. If cigarettes tasted and smelled like vaping I do wonder if vaping would have been as successful.

But back to the topic, I don't know if craving the three attributes I mentioned above is all that craving a ciggy is, if so I crave ciggies, if not then I don't. :D

Not necessarily.
The flavors adds more enjoyment to vaping than smoking ever had.
And I can go longer without vaping than I ever could without smoking.
I could probably quit vaping If I wanted to but me likes it too much.
It has also become a hobby as well.

What you say about going longer without vaping than smoking is true for me as well, as long as it's not to long. I will get a bit cranky if it's been a very long time. I like to think that I have control over this (vaping) and that I am ok without it and could eventually quit but the more time passes I'm not so sure. I can't get below 12mg and still chain vape and that has me wondering if I'm one of those who would go back to smoking if faced with that situation. I may be craving smoking but thinking I'm just fine without it and not craving it because I have my pacifier

@Plumes.91 ~ I didn't quote you since it was so long but this line "my GUESS is that anyone reporting that they still continue to crave cigarettes, are those whom continue to sneak cigarettes." kind of surprises me. Not everyone who still craves actually takes the step to light one up- regardless of where they're at.

I've been vaping over 2 yrs & still have cravings from time to time. I'm around more people who smoke than vape; the difference for me is not giving into temptation.

There is a VERY GREAT difference between thinking/wanting, and craving. Craving feels like... when you've had no air for 5 minutes, and desperately need air with every particle of your being. THAT is craving. Thinking/wanting can be dismissed by a) distraction, b) ignoring it completely, or c) vaping.

Anyone who isn't sure if what they're feeling is just thinking of it, or craving it... have someone keep your head in a plastic bag for 5 minutes; then you'll know what craving feels like.

Yesterday we were at the local Comcast office, returning some old equipment; everything was fine and copacetic, though there was a long line. Then someone new walked in -- and immediately, the ENTIRE ROOM was filled with the stench of filthy ashtrays. This person never got closer to me than probably 10 ft, but her proximity didn't matter at all; the fact that she was IN THE ROOM brought the stench in to fill the entire room.

So my answer to the thread 'would you date a smoker..." remains the same -- NOT ON YOUR LIFE; I can't even be in the same room as a smoker without feeling I need a gas mask.

I have read several posts here on the forum where folks do try one after being smoke free for a long while and they just tasted gross. Maybe that would work for you. I personally don't want to even do that though. Those things had me for 45 years. I fear that they would get their hooks back into me.
Same for me, I'm scared to death of even taking a puff. And after 6 months or so, the cravings pretty much disappeared except for occasional fleeting thoughts. Of course I chain vape whenever I can :)

I don't know how people can smoke just a cig or two a day, or a couple of week. It would be like Chinese Water Torture for me, restarting the cravings with each cig. And I was never ever able to cut down from my usual 2-3 PAD until I quit fully while vaping. One day I made a decision never to smoke another cig, and that was it. I stuck with it. Day 4-5 was horrible, but then it slowly got better. I never want to go through that day 4-5 again. Too painful.

& here is my post for those of you whom haven't indulged in smoking in 2/3/4 and onward months, and still "crave" them damn cancer sticks... here's the thing... you most-likely crave them because they're off-limits to you now. either that, or you crave the way the smoke feels, the way the smoke was "fuller" than our APV-vapor... The way it carried with it all those heavy little morsels of carcinogens. :p You crave the soft filter against your lips and the weight, look, and feel of one between your fingers. Maybe you have memories of highschool or college that kick-in... Spending time with the 1 guy/gal that got away? Reminiscing about firepit parties with friends of old. Well, I hate to break it to you but.. you're going to create new memories with that favorite APV of yours. ;) & they'll last a lot longer, now... lol. They won't get buried in the ground in 10-20 years, along-with the brain that holds em. right? cold-hard-TRUTH!

I'm sorry that I get so blunt with those whom still sneak one or two and "admit to craving them" haha. it's just that, i've been there... & all I can really SAY to those types of vapers is: Well OF COURSE you're going to crave cigarettes ya big dummy, you're still smoking them! you still REMEMBER them! You kind-of have-to STOP smoking them to STOP craving them... ME? Almost every time I have quit smoking with the use of APVs, I quit all-together the day I picked up vaping again. & whenever I started vaping & continued to bum cigarettes at parties, from my brother, from friends- I wound-up switching back to smoking much earlier than all of the times I quit with vaping & stopped smoking completely. So I know now, for a fact, that when I quit w/vaping & continue to sneak 1 or 2 a week, I'm going to fail earlier. So I'm not going to do that anymore. I doubt I'll ever go back to smoking now.. It's gross!

Here's my opinion: I was able to quit a pack a day of premium (Nuport100's) cigarettes with a white 510 cig-alike kit, two 510 cigarette look-alike batteries, two 510 dripping atomizers, and a 5pk of those terrible plug-in cartridges that you filled-up & "plugged-in" to the 510 dripping attys... (the plug-in cartridges were superseded by the cartomizer, eventually) I was able to quit smoking a PACK-A-DAY of 20 grade-A Newport 100's cigarettes, by switching to vaping with THAT KIT (the 510 YETTI, was what it was called) I experienced NO withdrawal symptoms what-so-ever & thought it was the COOLEST thing since unsliced Italian bread-loaves... & I remained a "vaper" with that kit alone for over a year. I remember falling a tree in my backyard, & I got sawdust in BOTH of my 510 atomizers! I STILL continued to vape with those two atomizers for another 6mo before buying 2 new ones! haha. Those attys gave every e-liquid I tried since that day a woody taste :p So after that, I knew that vaping was the REAL - DEAL & that if I could do it, ANYONE could switch to vaping w/out exp WD syndrome.

~CAUTION~ The following 5000 words are a wild "vape-history" Tangent, touching on such subjects as: The history of low-resistance cartomizers. The history of clearomizers. The history of top coil tanks. Please, if you want to skip ahead to the last two paragraphs. Again, the following is a wild-tangent of Vape History. Please skip-ahead to the last two paragraphs if you cannot endure such a tangent. Please, remove children from the room, they do not want to hear about what vaping was like in 2008-2009. ~CAUTION~
Now then- I eventually began smoking again ONLY because I was young at that point, my mom was buying me my cigarettes b4 we bought the 510 kit, and eventually, it became easier for her to buy me cigarettes than it was to order new e-liquid lined-up with the day I'd run-out. She also lamented using her credit-card online. This was my 1st falling-out with e-cigarettes. But after that experience, I knew that I could switch to vaping without withdrawal syndrome what-so-ever hitting my body/mind. The NEXT TIME I began vaping, I bought a new shiny stainless-steel 510 kit from a booth in the mall. I was able to switch-over to vaping 100% yet-again without ANY withdrawal syndrome, from pre-package cigarettes. This amazed me, yet again. However, I continued to sneak cigs, & went-back to smoking. The NEXT TIME I switched-over to vaping, I bought myself mods... I skipped the eGo & went straight for a Lavatube, version 1. Switching from cig-alikes to a variable-voltage mod was like night & day. I still remember opening-up that package, revealing my black V1 Lavatube, and being completely and totally disappointed & confused w/ what to think about how ugly it was, and how utterly thin & light the metal tube was, how silly the little crooked red screen looked, how janky the rattly buttons seemed and over-all, how poorly made the mod was in-comparison to pictures of the Provari. lol. I was, however, extremely excited to fire it up, and VERY happy with the size. (it was much smaller than I pictured it) & I was able to keep the cigarettes away for QUITE a while with that lavatube. In-fact, almost immediately after purchasing the Lavatube, I bought my Smoktech Telescope mod, complete with airflow-holes that ripped the shrink-wrapping off of all my batteries, and a cross-threaded locking ring. :) OH HAPPY DAYS! Almost IMMEDIATELY after buying my Telescope, I purchased the Smoktech BOLT! The Smoktech Bolt, being the ONLY Smoktech mod I've purchased without problems, was a great mod. However I only bought it to quelch my true lust after the real deal- The Smokeless Image Silverbullet! So after saving-up my pennies, and loaning some from my motha, I finally grabbed the Silverbullet. Now I had 3 mods and I was loving life. Vaping away on all three of them with my sliced-up 18650 batteries, my 2 ohm ("LOW RESISTANCE") cartomizers (which were ALL the rage! Yes, 2ohm cartomizers were called LOW-resistance back then. lol. These came-out right around the time an electrician posted a very interesting thread to ECF explaining why SOME cartomizers seemed to vape better than others, and why SOME lasted longer than others. He was explaining resistances/ohms!) After-that, we realized why we liked 306 atomizers so much. (because 306 atomizers were typically a lower resistance than most 510 attys & cartomizers!) and this is when labeled-resistance attys/cartos hit the market! What an EXCITING TIME THAT WAS!! lol. There became a clear revolt between those whom enjoyed 3ohm+ cartomizers and 2ohm+ cartomizers... Then 1.8 and 1.5ohm cartos hit... OH WHAT A TIME THAT WAS!!! Everyone began using the 1.5ohm cartos on their mechanical mods.

Anyways, to make this looong story a bit shorter- The hybrid attys and cartomizers hit the market. The HH357, if you'll remember? The IKENVAPE MAX-FUSION cartomizers that utilized a top-coil design, if I remember correctly? They either used a top coil design, or they were the 1st cartomizer to introduce the silica wick to the vaping game- I cannot remember? Ahhhh, but i DO remember CLEAR cartomizers hitting the market. & then a NEW fangled "tank" hit the market... It had two silica wicks protruding from a central head, into a tank of free-flowing e-liquid. They were VERY strange to our virgin eyes... They included a single red thread with the silica wicks... (why? i've no clue) they were VERY strange looking, and everybody wrote them off as a fad, that would wind-up leaking all over anybody whom bought em.

Wellll... the "clear cartomizers" gained popularity, and the "clearomizer tanks" fell into the hands of people willing to give them a shot. (very few people) until one day, these "clearomizer tanks" got big. they began releasing them MUCH bigger than your average cartomizer... & that's when people began to take notice of these things. & that is how the modern-day CLEARO was born!

& trust me, I was THERE- Our beloved BC-Clearos were ALMOST - aaalmost known-as clear-cartos. Yep. As clear-cartomizers were losing steam, and these new silica-tendril-tanks gained popularity, the community began calling the new tanks "clear cartomizers" & I didn't like it. So I made it my mission to refer to them as clearomizers as much as i possibly could.... & to this day.... I TRULY believe, that I helped contribute to making SURE that the clearomizer name STUCK! lol. If it weren't for me, and the other early-adopters of the clearomizer name, we'd all be calling them: "The Evod Clear-Cartomizer" and.. the "Kanger T3 Bottom-Coil-Clear-Cartomizer, or BCCC, for short. lol..... ;) You can thank me whenever you get the chance, of-course. lol.

Ahhhh, those were the days.
Anyway, back to my ORIGINAL tangent- I never ONCE experienced withdrawal from switching-over from smoking to vaping. Not once... and the last TWO times, I switched from 35-40 make-your-own cigarettes each day, to vaping, STILL without withdrawal syndrome/symptoms. THAT says something. I've never had a "craving" for a cigarette after switching-over 100% unless it's a craving for the sensation/touch/feel/taste, or the feel of the smoke on your tongue. Even-then, it goes-away w/time.

That's what I've got, thats ALL I've got! & boy was it a-LOT, apparently... lol. So next time you're "craving" that cigarette, grab your favorite PV with your favorite liquid inside, and have a VAPE! Have a great vaping journey everyone, and have a great vaping night...
