Let Natural Selection take it's course. All regulation does is bring the responsible down to the lowest common denominator of the irresponsible. If someone really 'cares' (actually 'cares'... not just say they care so they sound morally superior to their peers) that someone who vapes 72mg nic, dies, then they are just as big an idiot. The ones that say they care to sound morally superior are bigger idiots.

If I had my way, I most certainly would let the gene pool thin itself out as evolution sees fit. But the establishment now thinks that we need it to do what it considers to be the best thing for us. Some do want that, and in fact would be lost if they didn't do that, but (the sad thing) most responsible people, the majority, don't want the state to run our lives.
I wouldn't care one iota if the state butted it's nose out of our business with immediate effect. But I don't get to make that call unfortunately :(

Well, you have a vote, but that's just a small peep in the cackle of the hen house of people looking for more chicken feed while running the feed maker out of business... Wait until there's no more feed.... in the meantime withdraw any sanction of their ways.

I do think a certain level of regulation would be a good thing, as it could result in better assurance and consistency of quality of both liquids and hardware. I also think that any regulation needs to be done within the context of products that are already on the market, both "raw" tobacco products like cigarettes and derived products like NRTs.

Cigarettes have no safety features... there is no child-proof pack. There is no fail-safe on NRT products that would prevent harm for children or adults if the product is misused.
These products all require diligence on the consumer's part to see that they are used safely, and that they are kept away from children. The same consideration should be made for e-cigs, both by us and the FDA.

I don't really understand the "drug/delivery device" controversy, however. Are things such as nebulizers, vaporizers, and other products used to "deliver" existing drugs subject to regulation?
