I'm still pretty new to vaping and all of a sudden I'm getting a burnt, not sweet taste. I use a Smoktech Pyrex Vivi Nova and thought it was that so I switched and it seems like I'm still tasting that burnt flavor....what's causing this??? Please help?!?!?!

It's all about the technique

You no longer take huge long slow lung filling drags like with an analog...you puff puff puff on it like a pipe or trying to light a 1/2 lit analog

any time someone says their rig is rocking along then BLAMO burnt taste...I can almost guarantee that it's because they were hitting it like their old analog habit

Okkkkaaaayyyy, so short puffs?!?!?! Thx! Anymore suggestions on how to use a vv? What is RMS & MEAN? I feel like a kindergartner in graduate school ;)

With any of the top coil clearomizers make sure that you tilt and twirl your mod before you vape it, especially when the eliquid level is running low. Usually when people are getting dry hits it's because they assume that the wicks will pull juice straight up to the coil on demand, but gravity is working against you. Make sure the coil at the top of the clearo is saturated well with juice before you take a vape.

RMS and Mean are two different ways to calculate the voltage output of the device. Generally you want to leave that on RMS; some of the newer tube mods don't even include a Mean option anymore because RMS is usually more accurate.

If it's referring to electrical power RMS means Root Mean Square The average power put out from an electrical circuit (particularly an AC type of electricity where the power flows positive volts, then 0, then negative volts then 0) a battery is DC

VV is easy

Use this chart, figure out the Ω of your coils, dial the voltage to give you 7-8 watts, vape...nice thing is you can dial the voltage to give you YOUR best vape...all the chart does is give you a good idea where to "safely" start

I know what you mean Warhawk, but I'm going to disagree. I always take long slow draws from my vivi nova / CE5, rather than shorter pulls like you describe. If you have it set up correctly, and wicking right, there is no reason why you can't hit it pretty hard and still get a good vape.

With bottom coil clearos, or well-primed cartos / regular atomizers - you can draw on them quite hard too - even double or triple tap them, drawing another while exhaling without getting burnt dry hits.

Dry hits are almost always caused by not enough juice getting to the wicks around the coil (or the battery being set too high) - these can be minimized by drawing like you describe, but in my experience, the draw method is not usually the cause of the dry hit - something else is wrong.

Agreed

puff puff puff for me seems to work on bottom and top feed tanks...but yes...you have to swirl the top to ensure it is in fact wicking

So....sounds like I need to make a switch to something that isn't a top coil. I bought 3 Smoktech Pyrex Vivi Nova's simply because I liked how they look, what's your favorite? I like a bigger tank, I've already tried the Protank, but I feel like all I'm getting is air.

Not at all, the vivi nova is a great clearomizer - I don't often use clearos these days, but when I do, I reach for my vivi novas. (I sounded like the guy from the Dos Equis commercial then)

You just have to twirl them around a little - keep those wicks soaked and you should be fine.

You might want to check out the Protank 2 or the Davide. They are both bottom coil clearomizers. Apparently the Protank 2 has a tighter draw than the original, and you can use your own drip tips which is a plus.

EVODs work very well for me when I'm out and about, because they have a smaller form factor that looks good on any eGo-sized device and I can keep it in my pocket with no problems, but they only hold about 1.5ml of eliquid. They are also plastic instead of glass, so if you happen to like a juice that is known to crack plastic tanks keep that in mind.

I've always been told, "Low and Slow". This is the first time I've heard this.

How long have you been vaping the vivi with the same head on it? Maybe it's time to replace it, much easier and cheaper if you check out one of pbusardo's videos on how to rebuild your own, get some 32 gauge kanthol wire and some silica wick and away you go, when dealing with volts ill usually double the number of the ohm's, so say you vivi nova is 2.4ohm, I'll run it at around 4.0-4.5 volts, I'm running my vivi nova at 10 watts on a 2.2ohm self built coil and it seems to be proforming very well. If I was you I'd get a new head in the nova, clean everything really well and make sure to let the vivi nova sit a while after you've filled it to allow the juice to soak in, you may also want to take the little rubber piece that sits on top on the head out and cut a couple of slots out we're the wick go so its not cutting off the juice from getting to the coil, hope this makes sense. ;)

Thanks D4ENX!!!! That helps a lot!! When I first started tasting it, I put on a new head, however that didn't help so I then went to a new vivi.....NOTHING changed so that's what brought me here ;)
If you don't mind me asking, how often do heads usually last? I need something thats user friendly because I have no clue what I'm doing yet. I think I'll try a Protank 2 next. Again, thanks so much for your help!!!

Rocking a vivi nova mini with texasselectvapor "Tiger's Blood" in it, along with a bottom draw tank off my Totally Wicked Tornado RCS (texasselectvapor "Blurp" ) on a 5vdc USB bypass rig I paid $6 from China...with puff puff puff NONE of them have burned...and they are 2.4Ω which is "low" for 5vdc, the stock clearomizer that came of the $6 bypass had a 2.2Ω!!! None of them have burned like the first coil off the Tornado RCS BEFORE I learned to puff puff puff not hit it like an analog

YMMV (your mileage may vary)
