Why are both of my smok tanks tasting burnt?

I am new here as I just signed up today to basically see if I could get some help with this issue. I have a smok h-priv with a micro tfv4 using a micro clp2 coil. I have had it for a month or so the first coil was already in the tank when I bought it so I primed it, let it set for at least 30 minutes and vaped at low wattage starting at 30 and working my way up. I had no issues. The first time I replaced it I did the same thing and it was also fine. Now, the last time I changed it I did the same ritual as I always do and I get a slight burnt or something like a metallic/burnt taste. So thinking I just got a dud coil like I know you can I changed it immediately cleaning my tank and changing my juice. I even tired using a micro stc2 coil instead and I got the same funky taste. So after kinda vaping for a while usually like a day or so the taste goes away and it's the ultimate vapor and flavor combination. So about 2 weeks ago I bought a smok gx350 using tfv8 cloud beast tank with a V8-Q4 already installed. Everything was awesome with that set up until today I was getting a burnt taste so I changed my coil. I replaced my coil in my tfv8 tank using a V8-Q4 replacement was included in the box with the tank. Again I am getting the same burnt/metallic taste like I get with the micro tfv4 set up. I have been vaping for a year and I feel like I am doing all I am suppose to in order to properly change a coil. If anyone knows why this maybe happening or has also experienced the same thing I am talking about I would greatly appreciate any comments!

Sounds like tge cotton was crammed too tightly in the Coil and it can't wick properly.

Inconsistent premade coils id why i left tanks for Rebuildable attys.

Thank you for your reply. I would like to try to build my own because I know its very cost efficient and I have heard it is so much better as well, but I wouldn't know where to start!

Getting started is easy.

1. Get two tools

Ohms reader
Ceramic tweezers

Rummsge through drawers for screwdrivers (i started wrapping coils around screwdtiver shafts)

Small scisors (cutting wicks)

Fingernail clippers (work great snipping wire).

Tgen all you need is

Rebuildable Atty (RDA or RTA) recommend RDA because yoy have more room to work.

Organic cotton (for wicks)

And wire.

I vape the little Kayfun RTA in my avatar.

Best place to start with your set up is to buy the RBA deck for the TFV8 and do a quick search on YouTube for build tutorials.

If you're not into Temperature Control, get a few spools of various gauge kanthal and some cotton (Japanese organic cotton pads, cotton bacon, or even organic, unbleached cotton balls).

When I first decided to start building, I did just that (except I started with the Vaporesso Gemini) and just jumped right in. It takes some practice and some experimenting to find out what you like in a build, but it becomes second nature very shortly.

I'm a man, and I can change, if I have to, I guess.

I enjoy rebuilding. .8 ohm coil in my Kayfun at 8-10 watts is my sweet spot.

Since you specifically asked where, Ill make it easy for you.

Coil Master v3 kit. Has all the tools you need to get started building coils and an ohmmeter.

Lightningvapes.com: cheap, awesome, clean wire, even have premade spools of clapton wire

amazon.com: get a drill thats in your budget for when youre ready to build some fancier coils yourself

youtube: tutorials for those^^^^

what else? oh yea, amazon again for japanese cotton to wick with

steam-engine.com: use wire-wizard to estimate the resistance of the type of coil you plan to build

any vape store you want for the rebuildable atty you want (tank, dripper, dripping tank). google it up for the cheapest price, just make sure you look for attys listed as clones if you buy cheap from china (efun.top, fastech, 3fvape etc. they all have cheap authentic stuff, but they sell clones too. it will be listed as such but its up to you to read the description of what youre buying. and from china you will TYPICALLY pay less but wait a hot minute for your ish. If you google the right way you can find great deals in the US w free shipping and such)

Thats really it fam. Get that coil kit and you can start wrapping single and parallel coils immediately. With a drill and a door handle you can make twisted coils too from giddy-up.

Any atty w/ a velocity style deck or a 4 post deck will be the easiest to install dual coils on.

Theres really not much to building, so if you can do math and understand ohms law, and use your regulated mod you can get started as soon as your gear arrives.

Since the OP asked about this, your tanks taste burned because it is time to change coils. If it wasn't a long enough period of time you cooked them by not priming them or fired at too high a wattage. Just had to change a Baby Beast X4 coil after 10,000 puffs because it started to taste burned. Outside was white but when I removed it the cotton was black around the coils.

It's very possible the coils are getting mucked up prematurely by:

a) not being run at the recommended wattage. Smok coils can be very finicky.
b) the e-liquids you're using have extremely high amounts of flavorings/sweeteners.

What e-liquid are you using out of curiousity?

Get the RBA deck! Maybe a Coilmaster kit with ohmmeter, til you get the hang of building (you can use a regulated mod to check your ohms, since they have protection circuits and won't let you fire if there's a short...best to own a meter tbh) you can try installing pre-made coils and go from there. Literally thousands of videos on Youtube from various reviewers showing you how to properly install and wick rebuildable decks.

Welcome to ECF!

Early on I had Protanks with factory coils. Not the greatest, so I got a simple single coil rebuildable. Actually, I don't think they had multi-coil rebuildable back then. Anyway, I got one and figured to just tinker with it while still using 5-7 Protanks with different flavors. Once I vaper on the rebuildable, Protanks were gone.

Factory coils are probably better designed these days, but I still use RTAs and RDAs. Rebuilding coils and wicking gives much more flexibility and I find it relaxing. My coils last 45-60 days. I re-wick though.

My mods read ohms. I test the resistance on two mods to be safe though. Then I insert the wick and fill. As others have said, I just use tools from around the house. Some expensive kit is not needed.
