Why are so many vapers against themselves?

This is the strangest thread.
First there was smoking almost everywhere by almost everyone.
Next there was smoking in designated places only.
Next the smoking areas were moved to out of town.
Next there was no smoking allowed at all, not even in your own condo.

First there was vaping in the designated first old smoking areas.
Next there were vapers(?) yelling how rude that is.
Next there were ANTZ yelling to ban it from town.

All we want, is for the designated area to be put back where they belong, for everybody. That's what I want, anyway. Smoking areas, close by, vaping sections even closer. vaping is not smoke and the incredibly rude obnoxious paranoid fanatics still get 3/4 of the world. Give people their taxpayers land and rights back.

Nobody's demanding for to vape everywhere at anytime. Yet that's all we're hearing from the naysayers. I call foul.

You know what? To be fair, vaping is not even close to smoking. Not at all. To put it honestly, after a good nights sleep on it, i feel:
1. The business owners should retain the right as to whether or not to have
A. Full steam ahead sections or entire place.
B. polite vaping sections so as not to distract the slurpers, perfumers, lip smackers, etc while we meet other celebrates like us.
C. Down your shirt rules.

At huge gatherings, all of the above.

Get over it, it's NOT smoke!
No other rules need apply. We got this, thank you very much.

The most important thing to fight for is to prevent vaping from being treated like smoking.
That one thing encompasses all the things you mention, and so much more.

Vaping is not smoking, and simply lumping vaping in with smoking restrictions is not right and it is not fair.

If you think it's fair, just wait until you get a ticket for vaping at the beach, or in a public park.
If you think it's fair, just wait until you have to exit the entire stadium to have a quick vape break during a football game.
If you think it's fair, just wait until you aren't allowed to vape in your own car in a parking lot.

If you think it's fair, just wait until they won't hire you because you have nicotine in your system.
By the way, I just want to clarify one thing about my post...

We should be fighting for the same distinction between smoking and other tobacco products.
And we should also be fighting against the further spread of increasingly ridiculous smoking bans.

But this is a vaping forum, and so I didn't think of mentioning that in my previous post.
Besides, it's hard enough to get people to stand up for vaping.
:(

sneezing and farting are (unfortunately) bodily functions that we really can't control,,,,,,,,,

vaping isn't a bodily function, you CAN control it, and you DO it because you are addicted to something that YOU CHOSE to become addicted to.

I really don't see how they are even CLOSELY comparative.

I said sneezing without covering your mouth, hence the control part of it.
And farts can be controlled. You could step outside and do that.
I know of people/friends who fart very rarely. I/we could learn from them, and thus better learn to control that bodily function. In a future reality, you better learn to do so or risk being kicked out of public places.
And with covering a sneeze, there is perhaps a proper way to cover it, while there may also be lame attempts at covering it. The lame attempts must be forbidden as, of course, those who don't cover at all.

Uhhhhhh you've never had a sneeze or a fart sneak out, uncontrolled?

sneezing and farting are not NEARLY as controllable as vaping.

It's not at all a matter of cowering my friend. It's a matter of being Ambassadors of the Vape. This means being ultra polite and well-spoken about our wonderful habit. It means teaching people about vaping with charm and intelligence, not forcing it on them or alienating them.

We are vaping at a very important time in history. We are the first - the entrepreneurs, the introduce-rs. The way we comport ourselves is going to be the catalyst to how vaping is viewed across the nations. And as such, the way we comport ourselves can save lives.

So I beg you - take it seriously. It's not just about me and my right to inhale luscious vapor. It's about millions upon millions of people who are addicted to tobacco... and their families and loved ones too. So let's take it slow and do it right.

There is no argument to this logic

I'm a vaper, and I don't want to 'lose' the privilege. (Note I didn't say 'right'). In Public, vaping is a privilege, not a right. This post beautifully articulates that being an "Ambassador of the Vape" carries a certain amount of responsibility because so very much is at stake.

We have to respect the 'rights' of others and obey existing laws. Bad attitudes or walking around with a 'chip' on our shoulders won't win us anything, and could very well cause us to lose everything we're seeking so hard to gain, including the 'right' to vape in public without persecution. :smokie:

I love Vaping. I also have respect for the establishments I go into as well as the people around me. Some people are offended by the smell of smoke and some people may be offended by the smell of the juice I am vaping. The last thing I want to do is come across as some arrogant person who does not respect my rights as well as others. If I ask if I can vape in a restaurant and they say no then I respect their wish. I am by no means against myself as a vapor. If we as vapors come across as arrogant or disrespectful then that is what the public will label us as. I will fight for my rights if for example they try and ban me from vaping in my home or car etc...

That's okay, I can come up with 28 other things that are controllable.

But yes, I've had those things sneak out, doesn't make it any more right. We have to teach our young to control those things, so a whole other generation isn't loss to the extremely rude behaviors of the current, and uncivil, adult population. Won't anyone think of the children?

I get sick of that tossed around as a BAD thing.

It's all about social stigma. I can think of one drug used largely for recreational and some medicinal purposes that was outlawed because the owner of a newspaper was racist and saw it being used by these people. So he used all media outlets at his disposal to demonize it until laws were passed making it illegal. For close to a century now we still operate under beliefs that this mogul professed to be true which we know are not.

E-cigarettes suffer a similar stigma because people see the smoke so it must be bad for you and everyone around you, despite what reports are saying.

We suffer from a society that is A: Largely uneducated, and B: Love to hop on the bandwagon of whoever is preaching this week about something that is "bad". We have played into the trap set by people in power who see this kind of thing as a way to assert "control" over the populace by feeding them incorrect information under the belief that because so-and-so said it, it must be true.

Many laws and policies like this are based on uneducated opinion, not fact or science. Welcome to America.

To me it's the same as someone coming up to me and complaining that they do not like the smell of my coffee and to please throw it away or move away from them. (I have actually had this happen). My response was for them to "get over themselves".

Our society is continually finding new ways to become intolerant of more and more groups of people within this country. As a people, we have become incredibly snobbish, smug, and arrogant. And I amuse myself by distributing verbal slaps to the face when I encounter these people and they make the foolish mistake of making idiotic requests like this.

Sadly, we have also lost our will to fight back. I believe Prohibition and the underground bars and speak easy joints, running moonshine (which eventually led to Nascar), etc. Was the last time that we as a society decided a law was stupid and we not only weren't going to follow it, we rebelled against it and won.

The World Health Organization has recently listed AIR as cancer causing... 244,000 people last year died from Lung Cancer due to air pollution. Not cigarette smoke or second hand smoke.

How many times have you gotten behind an old SUV or Truck and were left in a plume of horrid smelling throat choking exhaust.

We haven't we banned SUV's and Trucks for personal use? Because they're popular.

I agree with this post.

It's NOT fair that Vaping is treated like smoking... (because it isn't).

It's NOT fair we're losing our 'rights' to a lot of things in this Country.

FAIR isn't negotiable, it's what the LAW states that matters. Unfortunately, Vaping, (like Smoking), is a "minority" issue and our voices are getting drowned out by the Majority.

We have to VOTE to change laws. Until then, we're going to be treated unfairly... all across the board.

I don't like it either, so I vape 'where' I can legally, and don't where I can't, while educating at every opportunity available. :vapor:

This. People say "Well, but people fart" and "well, people take insulin and nobody says anything about THAT..." People. Please. Let's be grown-ups. How could bodily functions and sincere, fatal if not treated medical conditions compare with taking a hit to satisfy a habit/addiction?

Nothing, but it is a phrase that can be made to disallow anything. Disallow vaping now, because otherwise children will grow up in a world where being addicted to nicotine or worse yet, being addicted to vaping 0 mg nicotine will be seen as good and healthy. ANTZ has determined both are false propaganda peddled by addicts who need a fix. Ban vaping now everywhere, for the children. Won't anyone think of the children?

And though many people bemoan how this country is apparently going to hell in a handbasket because "all our rights are being taken away" fail to notice how many more rights - and protections - we have now than in the past. The right to fair wages (or at least minimum wage), the right for blacks and women (gasp and gasp!) to vote (and sit in any place in a restaurant or bus), the right to fair trial, protections from discrimination in the work place, the right to a free education, protection from mistreatment, protection from rape and beatings and abuse, the right for women and children to NOT be considered the sole property of a husband, the rights of children to be protected from physical and sexual abuse, the right to walk the streets, use the library and enter a hospital no matter our color or nation of origin, the right to a thousand little protections we DO enjoy to day that we DID NOT necessarily enjoy in the "good old days" people seem to want to remember...because back then, well, people could smoke.

Come on...

Rationalization refers to the manufacture or invention of reasons for problem behavior that make it seem OK, at least in the addict’s mind.

...from an addiction recovery website.

As nicotine addicts, the need to rationalize our new fun method of getting our drug being OK to intrude on others' lives is a pitiful joke.

We should instead be working to make sure this option remains available for the millions of smokers that will need this choice in the future.

Vaping indoors around others without permission is just an addict, unable to behave in a considerate way. Rationalize it all you want.

There is something we need to wait for. Studies. More than we currently have (which is few). We can then promote them and get real information (not Bastille-storming) out there.

We can't go storming on Washington saying "I feel like it!" and have them keep saying "There aren't enough studies saying vaping is safe." That will just go 'round in circles...and WILL result in worse banning than we're even envisioning now.

It's not the government you have to win over. It is the media. Our government follows the popularity vote. In order for it to be popular, you need media outlets to spin it as a good thing.

I think it is naive to not do the research that documents who has called for vaping to be banned and/or severely restricted, before making this statement. Members of only one party on the federal level and only one administration has tried to eliminate vaping. I wish that wasn't the case, but that is the way it is:

3 Democrat Senators urge FDA to "swiftly" propose regulation to apply Chapter IX of FSPTCA to e-cigarettes and other products..........

And then there is this monstrosity...

Nearly all of the legislation regarding "regulating" or "banning" electronic cigarettes has been initiated by Democrats.
I don't want to turn any of this into a partisan issue, but it already is.

Didn't this list show up on a post about a month, month and a half ago and wasn't there a response post showing this list was missing about an equal amount of Republicans, which had somehow (whoops!) been left off the original list? Anybody have the corrected list?

"I don't want to turn any of this into a partisan issue..." Yes you do. "But it already is." No it isn't.

Correct. We need to spread the word...and spread the studies. Not just sit there and stamp our feet like eight-year-olds and go "I can do this and that's that."

Nope. Ex-military, toured with rock bands and laugh at stuff in Sons of Anarchy in ways that make people ask way too many questions.

Think about it.

What other group gets hated on so openly and vehemently? No one gets shunned or looked down on for hating smokers.

It's OK to hate smokers. Publicly. Loudly. Legislatively. They're the pressure valve for repressed hate.

Treat any other group in our society the same way. Report back what happens.

You're wrong. There's always fat people. It's ok to hate them and be discriminatory against them.

Many years ago "smokers: were the majority they could smoke anywhere they wanted as the years past they became the minority leaving the majority to decide where they could smoke. We as Vapors are a minority, keep fighting and educating and one day we may become the majority. Ask yourself this, if you were in a movie and the person next to starting smoking a cigar would you be offended?

Have a great day to you all.
