So here's how it is for me...

I've been smoking on and off for the last 30 years - started at the age of 14. My first attempt at giving up was successful for almost 9 years. I had a surprise pregnancy in 1992 and being very underweight decided to give up smoking. I stopped cold turkey the day I found out I was expecting and never looked back. Even when I lost my mum in a car accident in 1994, I didn't consider reaching for a cigarette.

Two more children came along and all was going well. Then I left my husband, had a complete lifestyle change, and picked up a packet of cigs. So I was back to smoking about 20 a day.

A few years later (I lost track of time!) I was rolling my own, driving home after new year celebrations, in desperate need of a cig and my partner was crashed out on the back seat. I had to pull over to roll a cig. I woke up the following morning and decided I wasn't going to be a slave to the smelly stuff any more. That time I managed about three years from cold turkey.

Another relationship breakdown, I smoked in anger. A new relationsip dawned and the smoking continued, as my new partner also smoked. We decided to try for another baby (she was going to carry, not me) so we both gave up again. That was March 2011. I managed a couple of months until a night out, cigarettes were available, and I was back on the slippery slope. That took me all the way up to December 28th last year. During that time, we'd had a little boy (he's a 10-month-old bundle of trouble now) and my partner is still off the cigs.

I work full time and enjoy going outside for a smoke break. I saw no reason to give up (I didn't smoke in the house or around my partner) so it happened by accident really. On the day I smoked my last cig, I was driving to work and knew I didn't have enough to last me the day. I would usually stop on the way to buy more, but I remembered that there was a vendor near work selling e-cigs, so my plan was to go out and take a look at lunchtime. I could always borrow a couple of cigs off a workmate if I needed to in the meantime.

So that's what I did. I spent £20 on a starter kit which contained a cig-a-like battery and 2 prefilled cartos. I've never looked back! I washed my work coat when I got home from work to get rid of the smell. I have recently upgraded to an eGo-T with a CE4 clearo, which isn't a great setup, but at least now I can see when it's getting low, instead of sucking like mad on a carto and not knowing what's going on! And I still go outside at work for a "vape" break.

That turned into a bit of an essay - sorry! I can't believe how easy it has been - the PV gives me everything the cigs did, without the bad bits.

Welcome! Just be forewarned it can become quite an enjoyable hobby!

I have already figured that out ;) It must be enjoyable because my partner, who's been off the cigs since March 2011, has got herself one and is vaping 0mg in sweet flavours instead of eating cake and biscuits haha. So it may also turn out to be a weight-loss aid - we shall see!

With you on "Why didn't I do this years ago?"...... Smoker for 25yrs and just couldn't put the analogs down. I was telling my wife yesterday that if I was to start an analogs again that I would miss vaping (and the vaping community) way to much. It has been almost a month off analogs......actually tried to smoke one few days ago and the taste was horrible. The options with PV (& APV's) is just endless, I can't wait to take the plunge into the APV world!

That part about how easy it is, that still gets to me too. I haven't quite got away from cigs yet but my smoking "real ones" fell from a good pack and a half a day (sometimes two a day) to three cigs or so a day. And I'd pretty much given up on quitting. I've tried everything. Gum, patches, pills, you name it, I've probably tried it twice. And every time, it was a living hell and I failed. Went most of a year one time then pulled the very dumb "oh just one couldn't hurt". Yeah, riiight.

I'm still feeling my way and trying to find what works for me. Like I suspect I need a higher level of nicotine to bring the remaining "I wanna real one" cravings. They're rare and not terribly strong except about twice a day. Like I need a "jolt" of nicotine maybe then can coast on the vaping for a long time?

The very cool, very promising thing is I've come to enjoy vaping much more than smoking. When I do give in to a "real one", it's a kind of rushed, mechanical thing. Like I want to get through it, get it over with, and get back to the vaping. Which tastes better and isn't harsh like cigs seem to me now.

So I haven't yet got rid of the regular cigs totally, but I can see it from here. :)

Welcome to the forum! I've found ECF to be a fun place to hang around at as well as learn just tons of stuff. The amount of info and experienced (and friendly) folk is amazing.

Yes it can. And can somebody console my checking account? It's depressed and crying. I keep trying to explain that in the long run, I'll save money. If nothing else, the health effects from smoking are costly.

But... yeah... I kinda went a bit overboard picking out flavors to try...

Oops?

I feel like going out and telling everyone about it! After Christmas I bought cig-a-like kits on a Groupon deal for two of my sons and my mother-in-law. All went back on the cigs. My eldest son's reasoning is that he liked it too much and thought he was getting too much nicotine. I do intend to have another go with him. Now I know I can set him up with an eGo for not very much with some low-nic juice, he'll be fine. The pre-filled cartos would have worked out expensive for him, but I'm happy to buy him the odd bottle of juice.

I've bought my mother-in-law an eGo and just waiting for her tobacco-flavoured juice to turn up and she's going to give it another go. It'll be nice to visit her and not come away smelling like a saloon!!

To put it in simple words ..... VAPING is a way to deliver nicotine to your body ...... BUT without the smoke (which is VERY bad), without the second-hand smoke, without the TAR, without the ashtrays, a smelly house, etc., etc., etc.,....... so ... welcome to the wonderful world of vaping !!! (there's many happy people here).
