Equipment I've used with bottom coil clearomizers:
Smoktech 650 mah ego style battery
2 different Joye eGo-C Twist 650 mah
2 differentJoye eGo-C Twist 1000 mah
Joye eGo-T Twist 1000 mah (plugged in and not plugged in)
4 different Vision Spinner 1300 mah
L-Rider Lambo v4.0 Lavatube
Vamo 2.0

Bottom coil clearomizers I have used:
3 different Kanger T3
5 different CE3 (I think the maker is Vision)
Kanger protank

I have used those batteries with VV at various settings with the CE2 and used the Vamo recently with the protank at VW on various settings.
I have used the T3 and the CE3 on everything but the VAMO. The ProTank was only used on the VAMO and one Vision Spinner 1300 mah.

So, the T3 was my first experience with a bottom coil. I'd had dry hits from top coil clearomizers and I was looking for something to alleviate that problem. Bottom coil seemed like a good solution based on physics and the reason I had surmised that I had been getting dry hits on top coils. I got that dry hit taste on multiple juice types (fruit, dessert, tobacco, etc...) with the T3. I replaced the head three times. I tried water bath, vodka bath, and isopropyl bath on the next three heads based on info that I read to help get rid of the dry hit taste. It didn't work. The only thing that worked was using Fire & Ice juice. The flavor is so strong that it ALMOST completely covers up the dry hit taste. The only devices I didn't use this on were the lambo and the vamo.

The CE3 was the next one I tried. I had limited success with this one. I have used multiple flavors. Initially with all of these I have a dry hit flavor, but again, based on info that I read from this forum and others, I tried a trick. I took a hit on the clearomizer without power a few times and then the CE3 was good for about 10 toots with power before I had to take a no-power hit a few times, again.

I just recently bought the Kanger ProTank based on reading how much everybody thought it was great and that it was glass. I bought 5 replacement coil heads, as well. I'm about $30 invested in this tank. I hit the same problem, again!!! I tried all the tricks that I knew, short of fire and ice juice.

At this point, I'm going to sell my protank and heads on ebay. I will of course have to take a loss. I just don't understand what my problem is and what I'm doing wrong that most others are doing right. What is it about bottom coils and me that don't mesh? Any help would be appreciated!

Dry hits indicate that not enough juice is getting to the coil.

1) Taking frequent 'primer' puffs, without activating your battery, is always a good idea. It brings juice to the coil and gets air bubbles out of the way.

2) Taking longer and slower drags also helps; try to visualize your juice travelling to the coil--it doesn't move very fast, especially if you're vaping dark, sweet and gooey eliquids.

3) Make sure that your clearomizer is assembled correctly--if it's not, it will not wick well:

a) Make sure that the atomizer coil is screwed into the base tightly--they often come not fully tightened from the manufacturer, or may have gotten loose through repeated refills.

b) Look at all the inner seals and gaskets to make sure they haven't become dislodged.

c) Make sure that you screw the tank into the base tightly. If it's not tight, it may leak.

d) When you screw your clearomizer into your battery, do not overtighten--screw it in only until it makes contact--no farther, or you may push the center post in too deep and cause all kinds of problems, including poor wicking and/or leaking. When the draw becomes tight or the taste and vapor production begin to diminish, replace the coil. This will happen sooner (even as soon as one day of heavy use) if you're using dark, viscous, or very sweet juices. The old coil can be cleaned and dry burned.

and

e) Make sure you're not getting juice in the center tube when you're filling--this will cause your eVod to leak like a sieve. If some juice gets into the tube, close the top cap and blow gently through the clearomizer to get rid of any excess eliquid.

Good luck!
