I don't get where people are stupid because they are not intimate with all the ins and outs of vaping.

I doubt I would have found my way to vaping on that kinda path.

I guess I'm surprised at the amount of "holier than thou" atittudes in this topic. So what, somebody can't do math, they may be good at something you're not good at. As a matter of fact, they may be downright........SUCCESSFUL.

I have terrible math skills, but possess many talents and i"m certainly not stupid. Since I know that about myself, it's easy for me to treat other people with the respect they deserve.

When I was younger, I now realize that all the things I *found wrong* with other people was just a reflection of my own inner shortcomings. A mirror, if you will.

Now, when I feel that way about somebody else, I loook within and try to find out the real reason I am feeling annoyed at "other people.

The sentiments expressed this thread seems very ... unlike ECF community thinking......ya'll have crapped on everything from the gene pool, to politicians, to people without math skills, to who is breeding, all the way to lost faith in humanity.

Really, I think ya'll need to look at yourselves and find the nature of your terrible frustration with others.

Well he could be in Politics since OP is from Albany and I assume the dinner was in the Capital District. Stupid always wins! There is a study where they questioned people with low IQ's and they really believed they were smarter than all the others. Ignorance is bliss. Happy Vapes OP and you did your best. Let's hope he is a cashier at a local convenience store and his math skills come out in our favor when he has to make change . He is the type that I love to hand the odd change to after he keys in the cash received. Many people can not do simple math anymore.

So I'm having a vape after dinner outside the restaurant. A younger guy asks me for a cigarette. I tell him I don't smoke cigarettes, it's electronic. Here's our conversation:
Idiot - "Oh, the water vapor stuff?"
Me - "Yes"
Idiot - "Isn't that stuff expensive?"
Me - "It costs me $20 for 2 weeks of liquid, vs $11 per pack of cigarettes"
Idiot - "So you're saving $4"
Me (shaking head in amazement - "No, it costs $20 for 2 whole weeks instead of $11 every day"
Idiot - "Oh, so you're saving about $9"

A few others are within earshot and are equally amazed at the lack of math skills

Me - "And I'm not inhaling tar and carbon monoxide"
Idiot - "Yeah, but you're inhaling water into your lungs"
Me (I've pretty much abandoned any hope of intelligence, so I let him believe it's water instead of PG and VG) - "Yeah?"
Idiot - "I'd rather tar and carbon monoxide, 'cause at least I'm not getting water in my lungs"

Me and the rest of the crowd are just shocked by the stupidity. By this point, theres about 8 people shaking their heads in disbelief. After the idiot walks away, one guy says "Where do these people come from?"

There's always going to be a few people short of a load in a crowd. This is a perfect example of how public education is failing the students nowadays. I graduated high school in 2006 so I had to put up with plenty of the "teaching to the slowest student in the class" crap. Junior year had enough and took all advanced classes simply so I could be taught and not deal with the headaches of people not understanding simple algebra and that Alaska is not an island and is not even remotely close to Hawaii

Yeah... This is why I am a Strong Believer that if a Kid can't pass a Class, he should be held back.

Problem is that the idiots are breeding faster than the non-idiots; natural selection doesn't work anymore because society protects the weak (" awwww, look at the cute little idiot! We should remove him from the middle of the highway so he doesn't get hurt")
Only way to avoid it is to quit trying to carry on conversations with people whose intelligence has not been verified......ahhhhh crap, I just did it!

If I redefined natural selection to be survival of the dumbest then it seems to work just fine. It's the polar bear that thinks it wants to live in the desert that changes and adapts. You may notice that because no polar bears are that idiotic that we have no desert polar bears. Maybe idiocy is a necessity.

Well, it's interesting you would use the word "up". Because this topic is a total downer. I started to read it and it appeared there was no "relief" in sight........the whole topic is just about making fun of other people.

As for the gene pool, I"d rather be in the one where people are stupid.....but tolerant.

I agree to a point with the person you are quoting. Sometimes, when you are trying to enlighten someone who is totally ignorant on a particular subject, (in this case vaping) it is the inability of the enlightener to break the subject down into its simplest terms. This usually results in the person walking away as ignorant about the subject (in this case vaping) as before he/she engaged you.

One of my favorite quotes is: "You don't really understand something until you can explain it to your grandmother." (The math part not withstanding....;-)~ I have encountered this myself in trying to break down computer language in terms my parents can understand.

It seems quite condescending and self elevating to label someone an idiot (a far cry from ignorance) because you can't express yourself in terms that he/she can understand. The only way to combat ignorance is knowledge. Before blowing someone off as an idiot. Maybe you can spark enough interest in the person you are engaging to look into the subject a little further.
