Well, it's interesting you would use the word "up". Because this topic is a total downer. I started to read it and it appeared there was no "relief" in sight........the whole topic is just about making fun of other people.

So you stay on the "soapbox in progress" here........ and I'll stay on mine......... deal?

As for the gene pool, I"d rather be in the one where people are stupid.....but tolerant.

We're all stupid, by the way. Just in our own way.

Speak for yourself.

There's stupid and then there's falsely assuming that you're "enlightened" because you've been brainwashed into believing you shouldn't have an opinion about anything. Don't H8, Don't Judge and Tolerance have become bywords in this day and age to excuse crackheads, stupidity, laziness, disrespecting ones parents, theft and a host of other ills afflicting society. You can see the end result of that all around you, just open your eyes...... if you can.

As far as your other comments go, how dare you come in here and scold someone else like a child for seeing the truth of things instead of turning a blind eye to it like you have!

I'll continue to call stupid stupid and you can pretend it doesn't exist if you want. That's way beyond stupid to me.

I ran across something like that before. I had someone who knew nothing of the world of e-cigs tell me, "You know, you will drown if you use that e-cig to much". I just nodded and said, "Thanks!" and went back to my business.

Help! I'm drowning and can't find the drain valve on my lungs!

Sheesh, idiots are taking over, really need to hand people like that their stupid sign, that way the rest of us knows to avoid them.

We're all stupid, by the way. Just in our own way.

I wouldn't say we are all stupid necessarily, ignorant in our own ways sure, but not stupid. But it could also be my own ignorance to the way you define stupidity.

Ignorance is simply not having knowledge on a subject but stupidity is not having that knowledge and also rejecting it when you have the opportunity to gain it.

Though at times we can all be stupid surely, some are inherently stupid and will make the choice to stay that way which defines true stupidity.

Lately, I just give them a tight lipped smile and nod and turn my back on em.....at least in public anyways. :)

Its isnt really THAT hard to count backwards back into their hands.

When I tended bar and waited tables (Va has a law requiring a 50/50 split between food and alcohol) I always counted back anything over 50 bucks to protect myself and to impress the guests.

It always made the guys feel important to have change from 100 given that way.

was he born that way ? suffered a brain injury ? or molded by society ?
disposable people not worth the time to help them understand ?
sounds pretty sad.
dealing with people that have had traumatic brain injuries. i don't hold myself better than than someone who doesn't understand. i give a little extra to help them grasp the idea. if we don't help people who need it, then what are we worth ?
that may be the sentence they respond to. spare 5 minutes of your life and help someone. has no one ever helped you ?
stupid is as stupid does. ya can't fix stupid, but you can help it. so don't be.

Wow. Nothing like a good dose of righteous indignation at 4:00 in the morning...
I will abstain from fanning that particular flame, but rest assured I have my can of charcoal lighter fluid and a pack of matches close at hand...

In the vein of the original post, though, I thought I would share an incident that happened at work last week.
My boss is very supportive of my vaping and has even tried it himself. He has no problem with me using my pv while working but he calls it my {SOMETHING BAD}.
As a joke, of course.
I was repairing a piece of equipment, rewiring a switching system that I was unfamiliar with, and he asked if hitting my {SOMETHING BAD} would help me concentrate. A coworker overheard our conversation and came up to me a few minutes later. In all seriousness, he looked at me and asked, "Are we really allowed to smoke {SOMETHING BAD} on the clock? {MODERATED}"

And JR asked where these people come from...
(Pardon me, while I dump this charcoal lighter on a pile of wood and strike a match)
They come from Michigan.
GO BUCKS!!!

I agree Racehorse. This thread is immature. Some folks get off on putting other people down.

I work with alot of people like that and it really makes me uncomfortable. Im in IT and I listen to the other techs constantly talk about the clients and how dumb they are and blah blah blah, just because theyre maybe older and dont know anything about computers, or dont understand networking etc. when theyre nice people alot of times and theyll be total condescending jerks to them. And the thing that kills me is how inept they can be about every other subject besides networking and computers but lord their intellectual superiority over clients in this one area. If I feel superior to someone about something I dont feel a need to tear them apart, I actually go out of my way to make them not feel that disparity.

Youre right about were all stupid about something, and theres always another person that can deride you for what you dont know.

and scold someone else like a child

If this topic were in Calvin and Hobbes, it would be funny. Actually, it is in the comic strip. And it IS funny. :)

Calvin, the little boy protagonist, is always having tantrums and has adolescent outbursts like: “People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realize how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world!"

He also hates baths, his babysitter, refuses to go to school, and is self centered and self-righteous. Therein lies the humor, because he's so verbose about all of it.

Calvin_&_Hobbes_-_Calvin.png

Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes creator, is famous for his rather philosophical depictions of childish behavior. :D

Smart People Don't Think Other People Are Stupid. That is the "truth of things" for me, so I guess we'll just agree to disagree on worldviews.

No "dare" is necessary. ;)

Wow. Just... Wow.

I'm not making fun of someone who's incapable of defending themself. While I can't speak for anyone else but me, I'm pretty sure the people who are laughing with me feel the same way.

Don't preach to me about who you can't make fun of. I grew up with a cousin with severe Autism who lived next door. He was and still is practically my brother. You'll be very hard pressed to find someone who'll defend people with "disabilities" more than I will and do.

No one's making fun of someone with MR, paralyzed, etc. We're taking a jab at a lack of common sense. Nothing more than that. If you're offended by that, you shouldn't be reading forums. While you're at it, turn off the TV and radio, and don't leave the house. The world is way too cruel of a place for you.

It's not our fault we have a sense of humor and can have a laugh at a funny situation. It's like jazz - if I have to explain to you what a sense of humor is, you'll never understand.

I wish I could say I'm sorry you got offended, but I just can't.

We live in a politically correct world where everything is sacred and nothing bad can be said about anyone or anything short of a mass murderer or terrorist. I blame the news media and the current administration. :p

As much as I hate to disagree with you Baditude, the media, admin, etc. are only a symptom. The blame lies with us. You, me, and the rest of the citizenry. Sad, but true. We get the government (and media) we deserve.

Well, in my experience I have often found that:
“The greatest fools are ofttimes more clever than the men who laugh at them.”

That said, there is no prohibition on laughing at fools. Not yet, at least. Will I be at the receiving end of the same abuse sooner or later? Most assuredly I will. So what? We are supposed to laugh at each other, ourselves, our children, our pets, our parents, etc. I bet someone is laughing at me right now.

The OP's target was acting the fool. The OP has a few laughs at his expense. Some of you view this thread and many of the posts as immature, and you are probably right. What is wrong with that? The world is full of very serious people, and these are serious times. If we distract ourselves by amusing ourselves at the expense of others, it is understandable.

Simple solution to that....Dont speak if you dont know what you're talking about....Ask intelligent questions ......sure....act like you're an expert when you have zero knowledge on the subject...not so much.

I don't get where people are stupid because they are not intimate with all the ins and outs of vaping.

I doubt I would have found my way to vaping on that kinda path.

I guess I'm surprised at the amount of "holier than thou" atittudes in this topic. So what, somebody can't do math, they may be good at something you're not good at. As a matter of fact, they may be downright........SUCCESSFUL.

I have terrible math skills, but possess many talents and i"m certainly not stupid. Since I know that about myself, it's easy for me to treat other people with the respect they deserve.

When I was younger, I now realize that all the things I *found wrong* with other people was just a reflection of my own inner shortcomings. A mirror, if you will.

Now, when I feel that way about somebody else, I loook within and try to find out the real reason I am feeling annoyed at "other people.

The sentiments expressed this thread seems very ... unlike ECF community thinking......ya'll have crapped on everything from the gene pool, to politicians, to people without math skills, to who is breeding, all the way to lost faith in humanity.

Really, I think ya'll need to look at yourselves and find the nature of your terrible frustration with others.

Racehorse...if I had the ability to express what I was thinking as i was reading these posts, I would have said exactly what you did.
Kudos to you!

Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see anyone making fun of the lack of knowledge about vaping. If they had, then I would agree that people were being condescending. What I saw people snickering at was the lack of basic math skills at his age. C'mon .... he is old enough and obviously not learning-disabled or a victim of a TBI if he is smart enough to know water in lungs = bad. (Remember, vaping out of the equation here.) I doubt that many suck at math more than I. I can't do more than basic division without a calculator and I flunked Algebra three times in high school. I know that about myself and chose a college path that avoided more than basic math. That said, the mathematic equation in the OP is stuff I'm pretty sure we all mastered in 4th grade story problems, including myself, the math idiot.

What's sad is that this is looked over. I stated I flunked Algebra three times in high school. Flunked. As in "not passed on to salvage her delicate psyche". I also sucked at sports. I am uncoordinated. I was the last picked for a team in gym and the first one hit between the eyes in dodgeball. I have not suffered irreparable scarring from it. It was part of life. It prepared me for adulthood and for life in general. Not everyone wins and those that try harder succeed faster. Like it or not it is a FACT. Nobody gets ahead being mediocre. Life doesn't owe us crap and neither does society. Life is FULL of rejection ... when and why did we stop preparing our kids for it?
