I have a regulated device but only use it for burning crud off coils. Mechs create a simpler, smaller, elegant, more dependable, trouble free, durable and smoke like experience. Mechs also don't suck up the batteries like a regulated device does. Some people love the power consistency of regulated mods but smoking isn't consistent. Cigarettes, cigars and pipes all taste differently from the beginning to the end and the mech's power curve does the same. Regulated are great if you need adjustable power and are better for noobies so they don't blow themselves up but for me, mechs are a better choice.

i'm actually trying to learn in depth about battery safety currently as i've never messed with my own mech mod...and the idea of it frightens me...to death...as i enjoy looking at my face in the mirror...and i like my hands...lol...i've only tried my friends mechs...with a shaky hand

i have my eye on the nemesis or stingray(for some reason i feel like the paint on the gold sting will fade though) currently in my local B&M...but i'm debating is it honestly worth buying and using over my rx200 and my tfv4?

i honestly can't see any features that would make a mech better outside of it being aesthetic and a bit more convenient; vapor and flavor on a typically regulated seems to be just as good depending on tank and coils o.0

i see most people here pretty much say they pick a mech over regulated because its simplistic compared to a regulated (i don't see what's complicated about a regulated though) unless you're talking about the DNA200's i've seen...that's too much...and unneeded imo...but i haven't heard much about performance difference/quality of vape; so i'm assuming it's just something people can carry around easier and clean at will without spending 20 mins taking things apart and cleaning them
You seem to be missing the general theme, and maybe it's just because you haven't been vaping long enough, or have been lucky with your devices. For me, I started looking at mechs the first time one of my regulated devices became a $40 paper weight.

Some people don't mind replacing something every few months(or more), some do.

I love my brass sentinel, brass Chiyou/Sigelei frankenvape and would you believe an old K100 been gracing a atty for almost 3 years and still makin vape, now with subtank mini's. I have the regulated mods but its a mech that makes a different kind of vape that the regs don't have. My sentinel is all tarnished up and ratty looking but thats the look I like.
This is a older pic of my frankenvape with a kayfun that has long been shelved since the subtanks showed up. I think it s a Sigelei #20 with chiyou cap and button, the sentinel is in the upper right corner of the pic. The copper chiyou beside the sentinel was a headache with its issues so I haven't used it in eons.

is there a reason why people choose a mechanical mod over a regulated? i honestly haven't dealt with my own mech i just use my friends from time to time...and i see no advantage outside of it being more aesthetic and maybe...you can beat an assailant to death with one and have it still working afterwards....lol...idk i feel these newer regulated or on average most regulated mods are overall better in most aspects.

what do you guys think?
I prefer a mechanical mod because they are more reliable and give me a better, cleaner flavor. it does take a little more knowledge to use one. the coils need to be built for the kind of vape you want and you need to test coils on an ohmmeter or regulated mod to protect against shorts.but mechs are easy to maintain and repair. and are very reliable

regulated mods will blow up too if you have the wrong batteries. you can easily exceed the maximum safe operating current of the batteries without pulling the output voltage of a fully charged battery down to the cut off voltage of the mod. there have been threads here about regulated mods blowing up when cheap. e-bay or re-wrapped batteries were used at high power

Some people don't mind replacing something every few months(or more), some do.

so what you're saying is that's what pretty much set you away from a regulated was the fact that it has a lifespan and a mech doesn't?

i haven't faced that issue i'm rather new as you stated a few months now with my own mod...maybe half a year if you count using others.

i'll try out a clone i guess see how i like it, and give some feedback between what i think of the two....i'll just need to read up and understand how safety works on these mechs or make a thread for that -.^

just the idea of anything blowing up in a close vicinity of me just frightens me and keeps me weary of lingering towards the mech side : / i understand that you need to know what you're doing but it's the higher probability that is scary.

actually is a clone even safe? i've heard of issues from clones/counterfeits should i just buy an authentic and not risk it? or what are some signs i should avoid buying a mech clone when i'm in a store.
