would depend on the mod all my mechs have holes on or near the bottom
You get a lot of the bottom button ones that telescope where the vent holes are in the middle of the inner tube and in pics always look like they are completely covered by outer part when screwed all the way down in 18350, here's another $11.59 V3 Style Mechanical Mod - floating 510 center pin / aluminum+brass at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping I've seen lots like this and the one above, don't understand it. It's why I've avoided buying them so far.

i would expect since the hole is still above the threads there is enough room for gas to vent, it doesnt have to be a blowhole just enough space to just let hot air out.
I get what you are saying but in the Lunar mod (first link) it looks like it screws down in 18350 into a very well sealed tube

Some mechanical mods, such as the BB (14500) and Silver Bullet (18650) from AltSmoke, do not have drilled vent holes in the body, but the fire switch is designed to allow venting of gas in the event of thermal runaway of a battery.

I actually had a protected 14500 battery go thermal in my BB, and it did in fact vent gas via the fire switch.

Like Baditude posted, they sometimes hide them. I have a ELA telescopic and some have asked about the same thing. It has been stated that it designed to sort of collapse when a venting happens.

I found out first hand that it is safe and it works as it should. I was driving around on a real hot day, over 100 in my car with no air.
I put it down for a few on the seat next to me, on a towel draped to keep it from rolling etc and the safety on.

I pick it up and take the safety off and the whole thing had sort of collapsed. I had no Idea what happened so I tighted everything up and again, it sort of just "spread apart" I later took it apart and saw that my battery had vented, it had some sort of rusty color on the top button and bottom.

It vented safely. Im sure not all devices are safe and one should always ask the maker/ modder those safety details.
