I thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion...

Why do most of us (seemingly) feel the need to constantly order more or new juice flavors (even though we have enough laying around in 32 flavors to last until judgement day), order a new PV (even though we just posted on how much we LOVE the one we have 2 minutes ago), modify something that seems to work OK as is, or find a way to turn common household objects into E-cig accessories? I know that I am guilty of at least two of these on any given week. Is it an obsession? Is it an extension of the addictive personality type? Do we all have OCD? Is there just a huge market for vapor producing toaster ovens?

I for one think that part of it (for me) may be that smoking was such a huge part of who I was that these other activities help fill the hole that not smoking has left. I'm sure there's more to it though. That's why I wanted everyone else's thoughts. Please take a moment and share your view!

This could be fun!

I think that could be a good point. I remember one time before vaping, I quit for a bit and this one time my brother came home with some friends. They were talking and joking about cigarettes, and I remember feeling like im missing out on part of who I used to be, because I couldn't really join in without wanting to smoke.

We are probably trying to build a new attachment to our PV's as we had to our cigarettes.

I love this. I regularly get yelled at for always looking for new flavors or watching review vids when I still have most of my last purchase. Still living at home my mom thinks i should be stopping not switching but thats another matter. Everytime she sees me Im asked a question about what Im doing and why. Shes used to looking at me crazy...Why are there coffee stirers on my shopping list? Whats a pryamid tea bag?

Analogs werent changable so we didnt think or try things. Now we have choices and options and numbers and mods....second best isnt good enough. we alwasy need to take it a step further

I'm guilty of these things as well.

Vaping is still relatively new and frankly somewhat novel at the moment.

I've noticed the attitude on these forums and of Vapers in general is that this kind of naturally turns into a hobby of sorts.
Think HAM Radio, Model Trains or more accurately; Home Computers circa the 1970's.

This isn't just something we're doing to improve our health and our lives. It's a new technology that we're excited and fascinated by. One with the potential to save lives. We're on the ground floor of it and we're the ones that are going to make or break the future of Vaping.
Any one of us could be the future Bill Gates or Steve Jobs of this thing.

So don't worry too much about it when you feel like you might be going overboard or feeling obsessed with Vaping. Go ahead and get excited about it!

Vaping could change the world if we all think about it as something we're pushing forward instead of just something we're doing to "quit smoking".

I think we all get so wrapped up and obsessed with ecigs. Let face it we all have addictive personalities (smoking cigarettes) and I feel this is all part of changing one habit for another. I read the forum and everyones opinion on which is better than the other and get convinced I have to have one. I know all of my buying is unnecessary but I just can't seem to help myself. Buying is all apart of the switching from smoking to vaping. I know financially I should stop and reap the benefits of switching from smoking to vaping

If anyone on this forum can say they don't have the same problem then come forward. Let me know how to control this. IMO the only way to do this is get off of this forum but just like the compulsion to buy this is also a compulsion.

I don't think it has anything to do with smoking, I think it's just compulsive behavior. I started fooling around with R/C helicopters a couple of years ago, so far that's cost me a little over six grand. I just checked the date on my first invoice, it's 3/27 and so far I've spent a little over $1,000.00 on vaping but that's for me and my G/F. With her it's like jewelry, she thinks she needs to have one of everything. Me....I'm happy with my VK from V4L.

I'm definitely guilty of going on a buying spree recently. But the reason is that my ecig hardware/software isn't entirely satisfying just yet, so I'm looking for a more satisfying setup.

Hardware-wise...

401 attys on a 510 batt does make for a nice vape... but the 401 carts are so small and the 510 batts don't really last all that long. So I'm getting two battery MODs that take 16340 batteries (the second is to have a backup). But once those show up, I'll have to figure out which attys/carts to put on it... so I have samples of several types on order too.

Software-wise...

I've only scratched the surface on flavors, and have yet to find that Tobacco flavored vape that tastes just right. So I keep getting samples.

I'm hoping that after I dial things in, I won't be such an ecig shopaholic.

[edit: My first MOD (mini vapestack) and my first 901 atty showed up today. I don't have 16340 batts to fit the MOD yet (in transit still). But the 901 atty (on a regular 510 batt) has great flavor and vapor like the 401 atty, but a cart that holds about twice as much liquid as the 401 cart. Lovin it so far!]

Yes, Yes, Most do, and No.

After a number of people (some who I only know online) over a few years have asked me whether or not I have OCD, I finally connected the dots. Undiagnosed, but it is pretty obvious to me now ... in many of the things I do. Including vaping. :( :) 8-o :w00t:

I think this is a distinct possibility. Plus I think it's like a new hobby. There's this whole new world full of fun products that I never knew about before. It's fascinating and exciting.

I'm pretty happy with my hardware. But I've only had the thing 10 days and have ordered twice more to get extra batts and attys for it and I was doing a filler mod on the second day. I want every flavor of juice ever produced by every company in existence while I fiddle around with my own DIY recipes.:D

It's fun, I'm happy and this is the 3rd day I haven't even wanted an analog.:)

I think it's just the way we are made. I smoked a pipe, i have 22 pipe's in my collection. 10 jars of different tobacco's and still look out for more.

I am a keen sea angler, i have 27 fishing reels and 15 fishing rods along with enough other stuff to open a shop.

Been vaping for just about a month and already got my Tornado, two pipes, one cigar and one miniciggy and about 35 bottles of liquid with more on order.

My X wife loved shoes, she had 63 pairs...LOL

Compared to many I read here, I'm not that much into variety. To the extent I try out different juices, it's a search of one (or maybe 2-3 max) I can hook myself to for the foreseeable future. Likewise, my trying out techniques--and perhaps eventually mods--is an effort to make my e-cigarette use as easy and consistent as smoking was for all those decades. But I do get a big kick and a lot of encouragement from what I read here about others' purchases and experiments.

I suspect that for many a lot of it has to do with this forum. I see a lot of camaraderie here and a lot of enthusiasm. I know a lot of purchases are influenced by others' recommendations.

I have only 3 e-cigs so far, but I distinctly remembered that every time my new e-cig arrives in the mail, I can't help but feel extremely excited and happy.

And every time I clean my attys, I feel extremely happy and satisfied with the vapor production.

I love seeing new juice bottles on my desk, even though some of them tastes awful. I also love tinkering and reading tips online on how to tweak my e-cigs, be it cart mods or batt mods or just some useless tips.

I watch video reviews a lot, and surf various supplier's website for new juices or parts, not to mention visiting ECF tons.

It has become a hobby.

Yeah, I can relate. I am a musician. I've played guitar for 23 years and have a Fender 50th anniversary American Deluxe Stratocaster, a 1988 Westone Corsair GT, a James Neligan acoustic and a Lorran acoustic (for bon fires, etc.). But even though that's my main instrument I also have a 1975 Rhodes 73 Mark I stage piano, a Buffet Crampon Bb Clarinet, a Maui Xaphoon (pocket sax in C), half a dozen tin whistles, a Hohner blues Harp Harmonica in c, and a reproduction of a 14th century recorder. I play them all to one degree or another and the list keeps growing. I just can't help myself lol.

When I began vaping 9 months ago I was also one of those who thought it was absolutely ridiculous that any one had more than one or two styles going for them. I loved my RN4081 and was rankled when someone told me right off the bat that my mini was a "starter" and I'd move on. No way.
I loved my RN4081 SmokeStik.
Then I loved my Dragon M401.
Then I loved my Joye 510.
Now I love my Janty eGo.
I think we're looking for the holy grail. The perfect e-cig. THE ONE!
(but it has to be within our budget)

(I have stayed with my tobacco flavors though.)
